I already returned to India - I returned to India in 2014 - It was the best decision of my life. I was in Sydney. I returned to India at the perfect time. Narendra Modi came to power. Stock market skyrocketed. I enjoyed full bull run.. made more money than what I was makin in Sydney.. India is really booming. spectacular transformation. I run my entire daily operations from the mobile phone itself. Modi ji truly transformed India.

Settling and being successful is a foreign land takes a lot of grit, one needs to be globally competitive, it’s not for everyone. I know people who came from Patna and we’re not able to settle in Kolkata. Where is that if people from Assam, have become CEOs in the US .

This dilemma is haunting me for some years and now it’s critical for me as my elder one is 11 years my father is 70 plus. As I had a dream to live in home country I even sorted marriage proposals for getting one who settled in India before 12 years. But now when I look back I feel regret that I missed these many years missing my dear ones , events and many more
It’s really a trap after some years of migration especially if you live in a foreign country especially those who never wished 😢

Nice video and very balanced views you have given.
Just adding my personal experience, if anyone is coming back, it's a good decision, but they must keep a way to go back, by means of one spouse having passport of other country, PR or such. Many in my known circle who came back had to return back abroad as they were really shocked about how the things ran. Though born and bought up in India only, staying a long time in a Western world makes us soft and less street smart :) Things like giving bribes in every place from cremation, death certificate to building house, rude public officials, road rage and lack of traffic discipline are a reality and usually when we visit for short holiday, we would not give attention to these things. But when we permanently move back, these would become more prominent in day to day life.
India is doing exceptionally well economically, and we have all good reasons to be optimistic. If one is ambitious, wants to grow aggressively in their career, make money, build start-up, outsource daily chores, then India is the right place.
But someone who is moving back and is looking for a content, slow paced family lifestyle and gives priority to clean air, water, unadulterated food and corruption free public services, then better to keep a way out to go back easily if things do not work out in India as you expected.

Sir, after marriage and especially after child you and wife should be there for each other and not depend on parents. If you are still thinking about your parents instead of taking care of your child and wife, problem is not melbourne its your relationship. This is what I feel. Don't misunderstand me but looks like your wife does not want to go back as she does not want to live with your in laws or tries to have as less physical proximity with them as possible so that she can save her marriage. Please realize that the reason one gets married is to start a new life and not to still cling on to parents for our emotional needs. As parents, they cannot be replaced, but similarly we are parents too for our children and if we still cry for our mom and dad then our kids would be confused and wouldnt see us as strong persons.

It's not uncommon in US/UK/EU - people doing plain individual contributor roles in 20 Years and stuck but unable to move jobs due to visa (other dependancy) wherein India - Top level hierarchy roles are more and you can switch every 2 3 Years

My own advice as a NRI is to firstly get rid of your debt. Especially if it’s a mortgage. By the time your mortgage is paid off then aim for financial independence. If younger than 60 years old then get a basic health insurance in India. Then see if you can purchase a house in the city of choice. Then decide to make the call.
