    Where you dislike her or like her there is something we can agree on: she loved her country. Unlike the politicians we have today that don't have the backbone to do anything worthwhile, she did.
    She was the first female leader in Europe and proved that you can break into another sex dominated profession without having to shake your ass.
    Rest in Peace, Britain's Iron Lady.

The mines were a failing industry, it was losing money, it was cheaper to buy coal from Australia, she didn't raise taxes for the rich she lowered them from 83% to 60% no wonder we were called the sick man of Europe before thatcher.

    • @GekkoKamen

      +robert houston Accepting that the RF had an indisputable role about the course and consequences of the Great War, it mustn't be neglected that on one hand almost all the British society of that time supported the decision of entering the war wholeheartedly, and on the other that there was the utter need to protect the Nation against the Central Powers' threat, which was indeed very real and imminent against all that represented the British civilisation and way of life, and that the assassination of the Archduke was only a mere excuse to generate a war in which the UK and France would be enslaved and plundered. The slaughter was caused not by them, but by the imperialist intentions of Kaiser Wilhelm, ignorant shower.

      +Jason Railson i believe most war's especially ww1 and ww11 could have been avoided, but due to the failing's of the english crown and government plus their massive ego's and blood lust million's were slaughtered and millions suffered horrific lives for many many yrs . when i see royalty and politicians at war memorial services i think they should get on their knee's and beg forgiveness from the dead and their families , their hypocrisy sickens me . when i was young and foolish i served in the brit army would never do it again or let any of my son's do it either .

      +robert houston My great grand father served in the Cavalry, my grand uncle was in Korea from 51 till 53 and I was trained by the Navy, and I feel very proud of those circumstances. But I can't deny that not all stories are the same, neither all reasons are. The only thing which is sadly unchangeable is the fact that they died, and most of them did their duty till the end, at sea, in the trenches, or in the air,
      many of them did with bitter hearts, like yours. Therefore the only thing that can be rescued from such monumental tragedy, is the sense of admiration and respect for all of their suffering and pain, both mental and physical, and rendering honours to them by means of this majestic hymn, is only but just and dignifying. My respect to you too.

      She was quite an astonishing lady!
      Yet, I doubt her "recipes" would work today!
      Our life in particular and the world in general have changed immensely since those days! Only one example: I sincerely doubt another "Falklands" would be possible, let alone "wanted" these days! And how she fought the Unions wouldn't work anymore either! She was right in and for her time and in her time she was "The One"! A repetition would be impossible, unless we'd wish parodies of Thatcher, with insecure results!
      With all regret: Thatcher is over!

      bluedog15 No, I think Johns comments relate to your outburst about someone you have never even met, yet still feel as though you can be abusive about. Yours is the socialist way, be abusive about people (because it's fashionable to anarchistic) but the second people are abusive back to start whinging. You should be ashamed of yourself. Whatever you think about her term as PM many, even her opposition, give credit to her policies. Whilst many of them were unpopular they were required and that is accepted. She was a strong women, but I guess that might intimidate people like you in your armchair eh?

    Entire and whole and perfect, the service of my love.
    The love that asks no question, the love that stands the test,
    That lays upon the altar the dearest and the best.
    The love that never falters, the love that pays the price,
    The love that makes undaunted the final sacrifice.
    And there's another country I've heard of long ago,
    Most dear to them that love her, most great to them that know.
    We may not count her armies, we may not see her king,
    Her fortress is a faithful heart, her pride is suffering.
    And soul by soul and silently her shining bounds increase,
    And her ways are ways of gentleness and all her paths are peace.

She had a powerful influence on President Reagan. And she turns out to have been right about the Euro and the EU. As an historian, I can say that her leacy has aged well, even if she was polarizing at times during her tenure of office.

    The guy with the beard at 2:50 was singing this hymn right, whether you loved Mrs Thatcher or hated her, you cannot say things about her that are unpleasent, i happened not to agree with her policies. But i understand she is somebodies mother, and if anyone was to say things half as unpleasent as some of the things that i have seen about the late lady thatcher, i would be appauled. Lets hope she is resting in peice for the family she raised and the patriotic soul she had. We have all done things that we regret, but we cannot let that dwell on a future where we are no longer around. A beautiful hymn that was sung for one of britains pioneering female politicians. And a great strong leader.

    .I heard my country calling, away across the sea,
    Across the waste of waters, she calls and calls to me.
    Her sword is girded at her side, her helmet on her head,[6]
    And around her feet are lying the dying and the dead;
    I hear the noise of battle, the thunder of her guns;
    I haste to thee, my mother, a son among thy sons.

      I never liked Thatcher either , her politics were self centred ,divisive and only benefited the rich toffs.Thatcher herself was never from an upper class background her dad was the local green grocer. But I like many would never be disrespectful to someone at a funeral. To me that is poor form indeed

    I remember Maggie when I was growing up (her second election victory was on my 13th birthday) and she left No 10 when I reached 20. Some of her policies weren't to my liking but she stood up for her principles and was firm with world leaders during her tenure.

    She was voted into power by democratic election. She worked hard. It is so easy to criticise in retrospect. When one considers the people of countries who have no power at all in the choice of leader and where atrocities are commonplace, we didn't have it so bad. May she rest in peace.

    Even the biggest opponent of Thatcher should at least get a slight tingle down their spine watching this. No deceased PM will ever get this kind of treatment again. Imagine what the reaction will be like when Brown or Cameron die, people will barely give a toss. A beautiful hymn, very appropriate.
