@thecoolbeansbates I recommend purchasing the book Alfred's Beginning Drumset method. I used it to learn to read and play syncopated. Beats. I like it because it starts with simple beats and moves gradually into more advanced concepts like syncopation!
Good on you, Ansley - that is a nice drum kit. Mapex makes pretty solid stuff. Your sense of rhythm and timing is well placed. Consider finding a nice teacher - it will help with technique, drum-set-ergonomics and good quality feedback that facilitates improvement. Lots of drumless stuff for free on TH-cam - try playing along with songs like Aloe Blacc’s “I Need a Dollar”. TH-cam has the drumless version. Have a good’ne!
