@thecoolbeansbates I recommend purchasing the book Alfred's Beginning Drumset method. I used it to learn to read and play syncopated. Beats. I like it because it starts with simple beats and moves gradually into more advanced concepts like syncopation!

Good on you, Ansley - that is a nice drum kit. Mapex makes pretty solid stuff. Your sense of rhythm and timing is well placed. Consider finding a nice teacher - it will help with technique, drum-set-ergonomics and good quality feedback that facilitates improvement. Lots of drumless stuff for free on TH-cam - try playing along with songs like Aloe Blacc’s “I Need a Dollar”. TH-cam has the drumless version. Have a good’ne!

Communication with the captain is always key for tying up! I always asked them their plan. Once you get a hang of it, it’s not too bad. Every now and then you get someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing, but at the end of the day, you can’t mess it up that bad. They’re the ones that are in charge of the boat. Stuart is a great place to get started. You’ll definitely get lots of reps!
