The fact that he is appearing on your show speaks highly of him. The most accomplished people intellectually are also the most humble. Reminds me of Noam Chomsky and Finkelstein, both of whom would speak to anyone who would listen.
From free aleppo syria I am a fan of this podcast form its beginning Thanks for all of you for shedding light on our plight We are indeed happy but scared at the same time Please pray for us 💚💚
Greeting to free Aleppo! Yes keeping conflicting ideas in our mind at the same time is the challenge of the moment. I’m not religious so sometimes my best wishes seem insufficient, but you and your fellow Syrians have them nonetheless.
I just wanted to echo the humanity on this show. As a Brit with Palestinian heritage, I campaigned for my local Green candidate a Sephardic Jewish guy with obvious humanity (not a Zee on ist). It was him who recommended Rashid Khalidi's "The Hundred Years’ War on Palestine" as essential reading. Outside of political and msm zee on ist elites, genuine appreciation for humanity exists and might thrive in spite of them.
i've probably watched every interview rashid khalidi has done over the past 14 months and I've never seen him laugh as much as he did in this one lmao you guys killed it!!
YESSS! I read this book some months ago and recommend it all the time. It's heartbreaking yet brimming with the spirit of a deep longing for freedom and the daily acts of survival that the Palestinians have nurtured in their souls.
Yes I own this book! Got it soon after Refaat's martyrdom. It's a very digestible, but also incredibly heart-wrenching, read. It's a book that you have to set down from time to time to catch your breath or wipe your eyes. It's heavy, but you get an insightful lens into Gaża through human eyes. It helps to make you feel much more connected to their memories and thoughts, without needing to interact with the voyeurist spectacle of lsræI's inflicted violence on social media.
So glad you guys found each other. The Bromance that keeps on giving. Rashid Khalidii being on your show, shows how legitimate and important it is. Thank you 🙏
Such an interesting episode. Rashid is an awesome guest to have! I was particularly interested in his opinion on Syria, it's been such a hard time for me processing all that happened because I'm Iraqi so I am having literal flashbacks to what happened in Iraq. But I am also friends with a Syrian girl who has been a refugee since she was a teenager, she's excited and happy she can finally go home, who am I to rain on her parade?! And I think what is most missing from the online discourse is just people stopping to consider what would the words they say accomplish? if I admonish a Syrian for being happy, will that turn the clock back somehow?! or can we all just be a little kinder to people who have been through so much, warn them of what might come, but don't do so in a vindictive way, that helps no one!
@asdfkgkspr284 have you ever been a refugee? I haven't, We left our home for 2 weeks during the 2003 invasion of Iraq and stayed in a small 2 bedroom house with 28 (with us the total was 32) relatives in a village outside Baghdad. After the 2 weeks we were all just dying to go home, even with US tanks roaming the streets. So no, I don't think the girl who had 10+ years of being a refugee is strange for wanting to go home regardless of who is in charge , and I hope to God you never have to understand that feeling.
I understand you brother/stser. I am from Iraq too. Remember all the distruction in Iraq post Saddam was done by remote control from the outside, for their own interests. They were done by Iraqi puppets many of whom came on American tanks, but by remote control from the US, Iran, Israel, Turkey,. the Gulf countries. No person in the right mind starts ruling the country by firing the Army and the entire techno class that run the administration of the country.
Finally, I'm awake for the live episode! Thank you for your service. As an old helpless white dude in the uk I'm thankful for your help in helping me deal with this bollocks.❤
I saw Professor Khalidi at a lecture series hosted by Democratic Socialists of America, and he was great and provided an optimistic view of the change he sees in public opinion and encouraged us to keep going. We need to be creative with continuing to speak up, act up, and express ourselves for Palestinians.
absolutely, assuming you hate the recipient and don't want to give a good gift. "merry christmas, here read this guys weepy myopic bullshit." No thanks.
It's an excellent book, second to none in fact, but be prepared. You'll wonder why you believed a single word out of the mouth of a Zionist. The sustained cruelty and ugliness directed toward the Palestinians is unimaginable.
Born in 1917 in Nablus, Palestine, Fadwa Touqan was one of the most influential poets of her day and wrote extensively about the Israeli occupation of Palestine and the hardship it brought to the people. She was born into one of the most influential and well-known families of the country - her younger brother Ibrahim would become ‘the poet of Palestine’ though he would die at an early age .
Great episode! Rashid Khalidi really classes the place up. Don't let it happen too often. "The Hundred Years' War on Palestine" by Rashid Khalidi is an excellent and sad read.
Great conversation. I learned so much and feel slightly more optimistic about the future for Palestinians, even though the present is so devastating. What an honor to be “in school” for over an hour. Thank you for having Dr. Khalidi. I’m sure his students love him. You guys promulgate the best bad hasbara.

I’m currently reading 100 Years War, and this is my first time seeing Khalidi being interviewed. What a legend, I have more interviews to watch now. Also, that was the most comprehensive and insightful perspective on the Syrian conflict that I have seen. I have certainly entertained both sides of the current discourse, but Khalidi’s perspective should be heard by anyone who is even slightly against the fall of Assad’s brutal regime.
Amazing coup getting Prof Khalidi on the show👏👏 you two are jn the big leagues, however you want to define that. Keep the comic relief coming - but we all know, you two are really intellectuals after all.... just funny ones
It's funny,- literally (!), how true words can heal the brokenhearted! And even more so, when served with such fine notes of humor as when cooked by these three chefs!
I'm sure someone gave that to him and he had no idea what it is. there's no way he would read that, if he even (still) reads. probably threw it away at the first indication that it's ant°s°m°t°c™... which is the title.
That was an incredible interview. Matt and Daniel, it's fantastic how you create an atmosphere so incredibly conducive to honesty and thereby, findings of commonality. Y'all did an awesome job, all three of you! I'm sure that Dr. Khalidi is pleased with the advice of his "brain trust", and we're all pleased that Dr. Khalidi's "brain trust" knew about you two. Truly, we are all in this together...thanks for building us so many bridges. ☮️❤️🏴

With all the deep respect in my heart, listening carefully to the words of prof. Khalidi, I can safely say that the American view of the world started him.
