The Brothers Grimm wrote this in 1820.
I'm not against a woman being respected and valued. But you know what? The Prince DID respect and value Snow White in the brief time we see him! When he first noticed her, it was hearing her beautiful singing voice - just like Eric noticed Ariel. When he first saw her, she was in rags and for all he knew, she was just a serving girl. And true, when he approached her, he startled her, but we're talking about a young character who has been abused by her stepmother and is supposed to be innocent and pure here.
So when he realised he had startled Snow White, the Prince didn't chase her, he didn't play the overbearing jock type (unlike some Princes coming not long after him). instead, as she had sung for him, he sang for her, a beautiful ballad promising her patience, gentleness, tenderness, and dedication. He apologised for scaring her. And it was not him who sent the dove - in fact Snow White offered the dove's little kiss to him! Snow White loved how ROMANTIC he was and literally told the dwarfs this was what first attracted her to him.
Of course you know, it's a tiny bit 'weird' for a guy to do this IRL, but it was their first ever meeting, and Snow White gave no indication of not enjoying it; maybe this is just the Prince's way of buying a pretty girl a drink.

Ah I was right the first time it was the 1800s!! This is such a nice detail of the original story. Obviously Rachel Zegler doesn’t know this.

@@gmflorioThe way Zegler speaks of the original movie, I wonder if she's even properly aware of the Brothers Grimm story. Snow White is very brave and optimistic considering she's a young girl who's almost been murdered and been chased from her home in the one day.
I mean this is a story with a moral about vanity - why else would there be a MAGIC MIRROR in it? The original story even had the queen using tight corset laces and a poisoned comb to attack Snow White, which the dwarfs saved her from, but the only thing that worked was tricking her into eating a POISONED APPLE - remember another famous evil apple? The apple, in fact, is a metaphor for the loss of virginity and since Snow White was tricked through her trusting, it could even be classed as a metaphor for... r***...
It really doesn't matter what ethnicity plays Snow White (although it really was asking for trouble this time). Because the Mirror spoke equally as much of inner beauty, the purity and humility of Snow White, as opposed to the cruelty and vanity of the Evil Queen, it meant that there was NOTHING the Evil Queen could do to be more fair than Snow White. The more she obsessed over her appearance, the uglier she became. Sadly, Zegler simply doesn't project the purity and humility that is still required of the character - not in real life, and not in the trailer. Snow White is not a Warrior Princess - I mean, riding into battle will literally sap you of innocence.
And I'm not talking about the Disney version - though Walt Disney clearly understood the original. I'm talking about the basic, 200-year-old story which Bob Iger and his writers are ravaging without mercy in their desire to keep the IP.

Women rarely became queens, which doesn’t counter the narrative of them being portrayed merely as damsels in distress, valued only for their looks and submissive nature.
Even the queen’s entire story arc revolves around the idea of women competing to be the fairest. The queen was literally a villain who wanted to kill another woman just because she wanted to be the most beautiful. What kind of narrative is that again in terms of women power ?

I am a feminist. I believe in equality. I believe men and women should have the freedom to choose who they are and what they want to do.
This movie spits on everything I believe in. Stripping away everything that made Snow White Snow White, and shitting on it in the process? Whether they admit it or not, they are taking a fat dump on women as a whole and insisting they need to be a certain way to be valuable and good. They need to be bossy, self centered, and never touch house chores - literally the exact same type of person older feminism hated in men.
Disney has become the thing it sought to destroy.

I saw the leaked scene for example when Snow White bosses the dwarfs around the clean up. I can see they're trying to avoid the whole traditional gender roles thing, but context doesn't seem to matter anymore. In the original, she cooks and cleans for the dwarfs to do something nice for them, hoping they'd give her a place to stay, not because she was forced to do it. Traditional gender roles are seen as a form of male oppression, yet ironically the only person who oppressed Snow White was ANOTHER WOMAN!
That new scene is Rachel Zegler all over, not Snow White, and I'm hoping this will be the movie when Disney finally learns that audiences are tired of going to the movies to have political agendas rammed down their throat when they just want to enjoy a good story. Sure, movies have always had messages, but not nearly as on the nose as this. And studios wonder why audiences don't go to the cinema anymore?

When the source material describes a character in a SPECIFIC WAY physically & in personality, then it makes more sense to cast someone who matches that description. There are other versions of Snow White that are not 'traditionally feminine' or 'white as snow.' This entire 'girl boss' Snow White being shoved in our faces is completely unnecessary and unwanted. Yes, there are versions where she's not as white as snow, and this is one of them. If they remove one little line from the movie, then her skin colour becomes totally irrelevant. One of the last big Snow White films had her in full armour welding a sword, charging into battle, and no one said boo to it. Dumbo was nothing like the original yet no outrage over the changes. Only The little mermaid and Snow White got the outrage. I wonder why? These two things PROBABLY can go together but only if Halle believes herself to not be an accurate representatin of black girls and how they respond to things which circumvents around to why she specifically took this role. Had she not said that and instead just treated it as a role she was playing and not stressed skin color, that would have been better.
And you know one thing Zegler has NEVER done, at least not in regards to Snow White? Stressed skin color. I do think Disney is going in a new direction, starting with Descendants Rise of Red, where they finally act as if people are people, BUT it might come at a cost, which is seen in the sng Ella sings, "Get Your Hands Dirty,?" which I think is Disneys' new mantra and though I haven't seen it yet (waiting for it dto drop n Disney+), I have heard that INside OUt 2 explroes that as well.

Just as in the job market and college admissions it is racist and part of their agenda. That's where I get disgusted.

Unless she changes her approach her acting career is going to be VERY short lived, and that won’t be becuase of Hollywood - it will be because no one in the public will want to see her in her movies.

This video has helped me catch up on why there is so much negativity on Rachel Zegler.
It definitely does not make sense why she took in this role if she dislikes the original so much.
She is young and naive, speaks her mind and is confident in doing it.
She has a right to her opinions, but lacks the respect over the views of others, so she’s jumping in with all her thoughts, articulating it in a way that completely alienates people who do not share these views.
Because she is so confident and firm with her ideals, she is coming across as entitled and a little bit arrogant. It doesn’t help that she adds snide comments along the way, which in some cases were meant to be light hearted jokes, but because people have developed a negative feeling about her, these comments only serve to turn peoples’ dislike to something even worse.
She needs a reset in her mind, a reality check of where she is and who she is. And she needs to be reminded of the honour she has in playing such a big role, in this case it’s not about her, it’s about Snow White and treating that character and story with respect. She’s not the only one, the people creating the movie share the same responsibility, and if the changes are what has been suggested in the interviews, then this movie will be an absolute disaster, as they clearly did not understand the fundamentals of what made it a classic to billions of people.

A wonderful, sweet, kind and thoughtful Snow White and a diabolical, scheming and powerful Queen, are already two great dichotomies to explore. Even a simple twist of some semi-reconciliation between the two at the end, even if you don't love that plot, would have served to make their point. Why they think it's feminist to measure strength as being the most obnoxious person in the room is beyond me.

They're race-swapping left and right. Making everything "woke". Just imagine what the world would come to if they swap Tiana for a white chick if they ever do a live action of that. Or Pocahontas, for someone who's not even a native American (I'm saying any tribe, not just Powhatan which was Pocahontas tribe). That would ruin them even worse than Rachel is ruining them. This and Pocahontas are the two Disney films that they CANNOT race swap in any way that makes sense. In The Little Mermaid, yeah that made sense because in the real story they never describe her appearance, BUT Ariel is the most popular princess, so everyone was so excited to see their favorite princess brought to life, that's why that wasn't taken so well. I was angry with this one because there is a description of Snow Whites appearance, for goodness sakes she doesn't even have a real name, her name is SNOW WHITE. Sure, go ahead and swap it whatever but as soon as Rachel opened her mouth, ugh I can't stand her, they're changing the story like crazy, this is gonna be their BIGGEST. FLOP. EVERRRRRR.

I think what bothers me is this attitude at Disney in particular, that it's good to be antagonistic and deliberately provocative towards the fans of the IPs managed by them. I'm a latino guy and I was put off by Zegler's casting. Not because I don't like people who look like me, but because it was so obviously a move made to set up the audience to raise an eyebrow. In essences, they baited a response. It isn't racist to point out that the casting is by definition, contrary to the original story. But they seemed to *want* to jump on fans and accuse us of racism, when that isn't the case. I'm annoyed that instead of a story that has latinos and latinas in it, they just reskinned Snow White, and then eagerly attacked anyone who dared question the decision. I don't understand it. But Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Mulan, and other IPs and movies have made antagonizing the fans part of the marketing.
To what end? True racists aren't going to stick around to debate or learn. And those like me who don't like being accused of being awful for questioning the decisions of the multi billion dollar corporation, weren't racist in the first place, and don't appreciate the accusation, or the sanctimonious attitude towards classic literature and cultural folklore. I don't need Disney and certainly not Rachel Zegler to lecture me about women's empowerment. I don't recall having an issue with it in the first place. But I certainly don't appreciate the implication that if a woman dreams of falling in love (which most women absolutely do), or that if she isn't interested in "becoming a strong leader," that she has somehow failed modern femininity (which should just be the ability to CHOOSE in the first place)...
I don't know who decided that Disney's job is to use wealthy twenty something year old actresses to condescendingly dismiss the original stories they seek to alter, and to lecture us about what constitutes "modern sensibilities." Again, it's deliberately provocative and creates an automatic environment of contentiousness with the audience, and virtually guarantees the projects that utilize this mindset to catastrophic financial failure (see Indiana Jones, Willow, Batwoman, and the Acolyte, and look to this space when they finally release Snow White). And for what? To lose a ton of money, to create a hostile space between the fans and the actors, and to produce forgettable schlock that will be forgotten but for the antipathy created during their production and advertising?
No one wins this way. Creating division and resentment where none is needed doesn't make the world a better place or make any of us, fans and creators alike, better people. So why act this way, Disney?

I actually wanted a remake of the original Snow White as I thought that with today’s technology it could be done so much better, but this version is NOT my SW. They changed it so much that it’s unrecognisable to the original, they could literally CGI a different dress on her and give it a different title and nobody would know it was supposed to be Snow White.
The whistle while you work scene where SW shows her kindness and thoughtfulness and resourcefulness by tidying up the cottage with the help of forest animals has been changed into her telling the dwarves to do the work.
“You do all the work while I prance around the place and cheerfully berate you to help you set the pace”
No, just noooo! I never thought Rachel was a good choice for the character. I’ve seen her in West Side Story and got to say I preferred the original. I also saw her in Hunger Games and didn’t think she was all that good then either. I am all for DEI and watch films and programs with tanned or black people in them. But Snow White should be played by someone who is “white as snow” They should come up with original ideas not take a white character and race swap. Ariel wasn’t the first race swap. In the original story of Princess and the frog the princess was white so Tiana was swapped too and also Tinkerbell.
Most of the things Rachel said about the original is totally false. The princess never stalked SW and if she thought that it shows how little she knows about the story. Snow White was never a weak character she had the emotional strength to forgive the people who wronged her, the kindness and thoughtless to help strangers, and have trust in them even after everything she’d gone through. In the film she survived two assassination attempts. The huntsman and the apple. In the original story it’s 4 huntsman, comb, lace apple.

Black Barbie doll came out before this woke bs. Black girls had their own Barbie and it was perfect. Difference now are intentions behind and how is promoted. Whole mentality attached to it. Nobody would care ig intentions were good and was done by right people.

Rachel is being misogynistic. She seems to think the only way a classic love story can work is if the girl is somehow lesser. This says more about her than anything else.

The whole point during the movie is her trying to escape her evil stepmother and survive while hiding as the queen attempts to kill her several ways. The Love Angle is literally not the main focus when the prince only appears in the beginning and then the end of the movie.. And yeah she wants love, who doesn't? Especially growing up with abuse.

Am I the only one who thinks all the hate Rachel is getting is absolutely disgusting and stupid? At first all she said was that she didn't like the Snow White storyline or something like that, that's all. It was her opinion, and she wasn't putting down the show's writers or judging anyone, she is probably going to do her best in her role in the movie. However, now a bunch of imbeciles have started all this stupid drama about her which is HARMING HER CAREER. Rachel seems like a really nice person to me, I think a lot of people are just taking the things she says out of the contest because of these stupid haters and all of this misunderstanding is spreading across the internet like a plague. At least she was honest with her feelings, you know? 🙄 Would you preferred if she lied abou what she though of the show? I swear to God her haters are such disgusting people.

I want the classic love story I’m so sick of them trying to demonize a woman having dreams of love and hope as weakness! Life is hard clearly the Hollywood elites are so out of touch to realize we need a break from our realities to reignite some of those dreams too. We are sick of it!

I always thought that Snow White was the strongest princes of them all. Her authenticity and caring nature was a vortex that drew everyone and everything to her side. The animals, the dwarf, and of course, the prince. She was a natural leader and she used the strength of others to benefit everyone (except the evil queen). I knew it would flop when I saw the trailer and they took her greatest moment of kindness (cleaning the orphans house, as she assumed). And turned it into a “I’m living here and you’re cleaning this shithole for ME!” Gross. Then I looked this shizshow up and saw why that scene was what it was….also I was dying to see some top notch dwarf actors fucken kill my favorite roles of the entire movie. Grumpy and Doc. Oh and OJ Snow White character and beauty had the huntsman risk his very life to let her escape. How is that not a powerful woman??!?!

Her "race" wasn't even an issue for me coz I didn't realise she's not considered white by Americans coz she looks European to me.
She disliking Snow White despite staring in it was definitely a problem. I like fairytales, they're not bad, they're entertaining & can be for children & adults. If you hate them, then just stay away from them, no need to work in one of them.

When the Disney remake comes out, I'll watch the original Disney animated movie. Also, I'll be watching the new version of Snow White called "Snow White and the Evil Queen," recently made by the Daily Wire/Bentkey. It stars Brett Cooper as Snow White. Her skin is as white as snow just so you know.

Rachel Zegler has turned me off of watching anything with her in it. But I am dismissive enough of her that if some movie I want to watch happens to include her, I won't skip the film only because of her presence. The whole creation of this 'new' version of Snow White has been such a disaster from rewriting it, Peter Dinklage's entire commentary, the 'magical creatures', the dismal focus group viewings, the reshoots, the CGI dwarfs leads me to believe Snow White 2025 is going to be a total fiasco. Not gonna waste my time or money on this one. On the day of release, I intend to rent the original 1937 version. Then if I can find it I'm going to watch Snow White and the Three Stooges. Going to pass on SW 2025 until it hits some free outlet I access.

The thing is, I wouldn´t think that Rachel is dumb, so why is she behaving so destructive and negatively? My best guess is PR, for good or for worse about everyone has heard of her now. Not sure if anyone would want to employ such a desaster, but I am sure she can still have a bright future in adult movies.
