- Though this song is better known today as "The Rose of Alabammy,'" I chose to keep its original title since I am singing the original 1846 lyrics. This song is on my latest CD "PATCHWORK" which is available at: tomroush.us or at iTunes at: itunes.apple.c...
this song is so well-used in the jose wales soundtrack, weaving in and out with the other musical themes and arrangements; from camp circle to symphonic aaron copland-esque to riding off into the sunset...
Yes, Jose Wales is why I know this song, but don't piss down my back and tell me it's raining.
Josey Wales is awesome
Josey Wales was such a hard ass

1ST HEARD IN MOVIE OUTLAW JOSEY WALES
This song has and will live in American music history forever. One of the all-time greatest.
the outlaw Josey Walles, is the best western movie in the history of cinema, huge and wonderful Clint Eastwood
And the song Rosa de alabama that his friend sings while he is dying, one of the most successful scenes in history,,,
GOD BLESS THE SOUTH FOR EVER.
I recon so josey wales
Cheers. Im fuckin canadian, but yeah, god bless the south
I had a good friend from Alabama and her name was Martha. She truly was a rose and she coached me so that my accent would turn truly Southern ! I had to practice many times "man" She is gone now but I still love everything about the South. Thank you Martha ! We'll meet again someday ! Rest in peace now wherever they lay you.
I live and was born in Alabama. This is our National Anthem.
I'm English but I f*cking love this song, I'd have this as my National Anthem any day. Jose Wales!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Perfect, then maybe you can clear up a curiosity for me: I am not a native English speaker, and listening to different interpretations of "Rose of Alabama" I noticed that some people say "rose of Alabama" and some, instead, say "rose of Alabami." Is there a particular explanation for this difference? Thank you!
@@corradospagnuolo614 Good question - I was wondering that all the time after seeing Outlaw Josey Wales - don't expect an answer though - that comment is likely auto generated by a BOT.
@@corradospagnuolo614 It is just a matter of dialect. The correct spelling is Alabama. Many of the country folks of the state have the native Scots-Irish dialect which becomes Alabami. Not many of those old-timers left!
OK, I finally got it, I like to study languages and when I run into something strange I have to get the curiosity out! Thanks for the information, have a good evening!@@GregoryPhillips-c5p
Love from the North, coming from New York.
Music like this is better than music today like Gucci Gang and Justin Bieber.

Love it, makes me miss American south! I live in Vienna, Austria !
That's not a bad place either!
I witnessed a meeting of many Morris Dancers here in Essex England, they danced played violins drums and accordions, & there music so reminded me of 'Rose of Alabama', when I next have the pleasure to visit that great country of America I would like to witness this fine song played somewhere in the South
My mother, Grandmother and grand father lived in Dothan Alabama My grand father was a preacher there !!

Say what you will about the south, but you have to admit they have some damn good tunes
This is very good wonderful music bet they don't grow tobacco in Alabama any more though!

Thanks Tom! If it wasn't for you I would never have heard most of these great songs and the ones I have heard were completely different..
I like how each instrument seems to get a solo
What a beautiful song performed in such a melodious way.Greatings from the other side of the Ocean:Germany

One of the best confederate songs
Not even close. The song was written in Philadelphia (not in the south) about a woman of color and a man trying to cross the Mississippi to find her.
@@paulrupright4694 do you hate people of color??😂😂 same tho this isnt the best
It's still southern confederate alot of confederate souljers sang this and dixie and oh Suzanna also wearing of the grey is another confederate great
Thank goodness for the Alabama 🙏🏻❤.

Thank you Kelley!
+Tom Roush can you cover Pop goes the weasel (Charley twiggs version) and shew fly don't bother me plz??
@@AlexanderMcRae its not, where does it reference succession or the confederacy and was written nearly 20 years before the civil war started.
@@AlexanderMcRae
That doesn’t inherently mean it’s a Confederate song, just that soldiers from the South enjoyed singing it to raise moral during a time of war. Is Lorena a Union song just because some of their soldiers sang it during the Siege of Vicksburg and afterwards? No, because it’s a southern song, same as this one. It has no particular affiliation with either faction, unlike a song such as Dixie’s Land, which does have an obvious connection to the Confederacy (but is still an excellent song and I love it dearly).
My wife's ancestors are from Alabammy. My sister lives in Auburn. I live in east Texas. I never was sure if the "Yellow Rose of Texas" was not related to "The Rose of Alabama".
God bless Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia and the rest conservative Christian states!
Very good song! Greetings from Poland to the South :D
Greeting from Lousiana!
Howdy from Virginia
Greetings from Florida near the
Olustee battlefield. I am part

I listened thid song first time in the movie 'Outlaw Josiah Wales', with Clint Eastwood,in 1976, but dubbed into spanish. And now, I can know the original lyrics
The Confederacy that's wat comes to mind the glorious South and the southern cross long lived the south the real south
Listening to this while smoking a good cigar and writing a speech on Jeffersonian, Confederate values.
Good on you.
YHWH bless you and keep you.

RU a DEMOCRAT!!?
Big cringe, imagine losing the only war you ever fought
You can keep lee, davis, and stephens
Lincoln, Grant and Seward are cooler anyways
Tom, you do such a good job! Just the right balance of professionalism and demotic authenticity. Keep up the good work!
Thank you!!!!
Yeah I agree. You feel like your in a time machine listening to your voice
There's a couple of verses that were left out of this version of the song:
Now every night, come rain or shower,
I hunt that banjo by the hour,
And see my sweet tobacco flower,
My Rose of Alabama
Oh, fare thee well to Liza Jane,
And fare thee well, you belles of Spain,
Your charms will all be put to shame,
By the Rose of Alabama
There are actually at least 6 more verses that I've heard to this song!
Wrong song entirely. Rose of Alabama is a civil war era song.
Came from the outlaw Josey Wales 🤠
Fantastic song!
"I got the gold pa.. I got the gold right here pa!"
Been trying to find a recording of this song for a wile. So thanks for updating it sir.
Jose wales .. for life..
0:21 The opening of the chorus of "Oh! Susanna" is almost identical to that of "Rose of Alabama"
"Rose of Alabama" 1846
"Oh! Susanna" 1848.
"Oh, Susanna
Oh don't you cry for me
For I come from Alabama
With my banjo on my knee"
Good catch
I’ll play this song every time Najee Harris scores a TD for the Steelers 🖤💛

I was in the military and on fire ranges when you smoke a cigarette the gunpowder makes your cigarette taste sweet, like swisher cherry cigars, and the rest of the pack also, it's called the taste of victory.
When I hear this why do I feel like I should be on a horse flying through a widespread meadow unloading a colt single action lol

Because you're fuckin awesome

Tom Roush, Sir.. yours is the only video I decided to share on my profile. Not that anyone is less worthy but I think yours is fantastically close to heart and thank you for sharing a history. Love your reflectionary work :)
Sunnyside Up: Please don't call me sir! LOL I haven't been called by that name since I worked in a reform school in West Virginia.I appreciate your generous comment - Tom
It is out of respect. Not that I have been fan of Pablo Picasso until I saw his works in real life and remembered his wife calling him 'Monsignor', that is what it reminded me of... a sly understatement of self and yet... someone fills up a travel of time we do not know but get to feel.
Great performance both here and with "Oh Susanna." I was reading about "Oh Susanna" on Wiki and they mentioned this song as an influence. Not sure I see the connection but a good song in its own right!
Josie Wales brought me here
Aways, the old tom roush with music of quality

Howdy Tom! I am a big fan of your music, as well as Bobby Horton (who you’re style reminds me of!) I really enjoy these music videos, which you do a great job with! Maybe we can collaborate at some point. Let me know.
