I'm so glad I found your channel! My husband was a builder for years, and I would help him. I would help him hang dry wall and wall paper, and help hold anything he needed me to, and cut in for him when we were painting, and he would do everything else when we worked on our place or my parents house. My husband passed away in 2015 and I didn't think I would have another paint brush in my hand, but the past few months I've been helping my brother-in-law paint who used to be a builder, but he's 78 and needed help, I've just been cutting in for him and he's been doing the rest. Just recently, a widow friend of mine who lost her husband asked me to paint for her because she had nobody else to do it and she's needing to sell her home. I told her I wasn't a painter, just a painters helper😂 but she has entrusted me to do this, so, I began desperately looking up videos to help me better understand how to do everything on my own and I came across your channel. Your videos have really helped me a lot. Thank you♥️

I'm a handyman here in northern Michigan. Been doing a ton of painting last couple months. So much money to be made here, we live in a tourist town with multimillion-dollar homes as well as rentals.
I probably spend a good 30% of my time taping. Honestly don't have much confidence doing cut in.
Spent $60 in tape on my most recent paint job, lol.
It is very important to me to give my customers the best job possible and for now that means a lot of tape. This is your first video that I've seen and I'm definitely going to look up your past videos.
Thank you very much for your effort and time

Thanks dude! I am painting my bedroom and having the hardest time painting than clean line at the ceiling! Now I know it's all about that brush!!! I am using a really cheap brush right now that does not come to a point at the top and it's giving me the blues. Then I used the painters tape and that's taking forever and I don't have forever to finish this bedroom. So, tomorrow I am headed back to home Depot to get the proper brush so I can paint like a pro like you!!! Thank you soooooo much for sharing this valuable information. God bless you continually.

Nice job with the instruction! I have to say THANKS for including the most basic stuff in your videos - like how many fingers on the brush, how to hold the brush while using the roller, rotating the brush so you don’t glorp on the wall, and when to back roll. I have gotten lost in a lot of videos on painting wondering things like how often should I dip the brush back into paint, and trying to rewind so I could see what the dude was actually doing with the brush because it looked like he just went slash-swish and got a perfect line. If you ever have the time and inclination, editing in close-ups of hand and brush would be gravy. Anyway, for a guy whose parents seemed to be allergic to fresh paint and who never did any painting in younger life this is pure gold. You have to crawl before you walk and after painting a bathroom at a dead run after water damage fouled things up a few days before we had guests coming, I am really happy to go back to crawling and figuring out what I did wrong as I proceed to repaint and move on to other rooms.

Great video. I’m an professional painter so I don’t know why I even watched this 🤷‍♀️ but leaned about back rolling your edges. Never heard of that before... I’m a cut - roll - cut - roll type painter. I never roll out a room and cut after. But I’m going to try rolling the walls out first and then cutting, because of your back roll technique. See how it goes!

Hi , really appreciate the videos and am learning a lot. I am not new to painting but I am new to sprayiing so all of your tutorials have been helpful. I just purchased a Graco 490 so i am on a learning curve.
I thought I'd mention a cutting in method that has served me well for many years. The advantage this technique gives you is the ability to make much longer cuts. So what you do is load your brush ( i use purdy 2.5 in angled sash brush) so that it has all the paint that it can hold. Then, paint a 24" to 30" line 3/8" to 1/2" from the ceiling working towards a wet edge. Load your brush again but this time shake it off well so that it is wet put not dripping. Now, cut in to the ceiling painting over the first cut in. The paint that is already on the wall will make it easy for the brush to slide on the wall and will feed paint into the brush so you can make much longer cut. Then I back roll just as you do in your videos. I can usually cut a 36" line at a time using this method.
Let me know if you know this method or how well you think it works. Also, I wouldn't mind if you could give me your thoughts about the Graco 490.
    Thanks

I've never seen someone cut in like this in my life. You should cut in first then roll and no mini roller is required. Just figured I'd point that out

I Think his target audience is DIY painters. Definitely not contractors, I would go out of business if my guys worked like this. but it's very helpful to everyday NON PAINTER.

Prefer a now hard to find 2 1/2 square cut sash brush. You can reverse direction with a twitch of the wrist. Also if paint is sagging out you can flip the brush and keep going in the same direction. Sometimes I start with paint hanging swipe short of the cut line. That way it can’t sag out of the brush and you pick up that paint as you cut in. A brush loaded paint edger pad can very effective but don’t go to far or the coverage will be thin. Early versions of the edger pads had adjustment notches so you could hold the pad a little bit shy of a ceiling so an imperfect mud job doesn’t rag up your line. Of course you painted the ceiling down the wall slightly to help it fill in. Sashman. PS my dad claimed my grandad could cut a sash with a 4” brush. Make mine an 1 1/2 square sash.

Would be nice to see you transfer paint from 5 gallon bucket into the smaller bucket and know how much paint you have in the bucket. When I cut in I seem to get a bead of paint and I do not know why. Great video. Thanks.

I guess I'm naturally a good cut in. I do all of this without being told to. But I wanted to watch this too see where I could improve but the only thing I do differently is I don't use a roller to fill in the area, I just use my brush.
