I’m just glad to see Parker making an improved version of the 51. It’s girthier, making it nicer to hold and write with. I’ve never had problems with well made push fit caps. They are much more convenient..
I also prefer the push fit cap. Not in all pens, but on this Parker 51, I would. The girth is about the same as in the old one, but it seems girthier to the feel and to the eye.
I’ve got the stainless steel version and Parker now includes a converter with this model also. I think Parker has listened to customer complaints regarding this issue. Well done Parker!!
Your review, as always, is most helpful as I was looking for guidance earlier today when I placed an order for the teal/steel nib version, out of nostalgia. As a child, I drew doodles with my grandfather's whenever I could and so, I have an indelible memory of the bladder and nib.
I am from India, I purchased both the new 51 with fine steel nib and Deluxe with 18K gold medium nib. I heard many negative comments about new edition when I purchased those 51. In last two years I observed both the 51 are excellent writers. I carry 51 with fine steel nib every day for official purpose. Regarding screw cap, I believe it is more safe technic than older slip in cap. Another thing in India it's difficult to find out vintage pen in its original condition.

Thanks for this review. You've changed my mind to an extent. On it's merits, this is a decent, if overpriced, pen. And it simply isn't aimed at vintage pen enthusiasts, so it doesn't matter about the filling system, feed, nib, screw cap etc. It's selling an image, not a piece of history.

Agree. I also use parker 51 chrome trim midnight blue daily. It’s an excellent pen.

I guess your comment sums it all very well. That is it. A good pen, but not for vintage pen lovers. A very good pen for newer users.
