I was an AX in the late 70s and early 80s. Cruised on the Ranger, reserved on the Eisenhower and then with VP-68. Every once in awhile I get a little nostalgic and a slight twinge of remorse surfaces in the back of my brain over leaving the Navy. I catch myself remembering the "good old days" (yeah, as if working 12-on, 12-off on the flight deck 7 days a week for 9 months with only about 10 days port call during the entire cruise was really all that great). Then I see a video like this and I realize getting out was the best decision I ever made (next to marrying my wife, that is). Yeah, it was fun and a great way for an 18 year old who didn't have any direction in life to get things in focus and get his butt in gear, but while I have a lot of fond memories of the camaraderie and all, I wouldn't repeat the experience for love or money...not that one sees much of either in the Nav.

It's like my old man says: "It sucked, but I would do it all again."
