Last chance at Fort Hill Jump before getting stuck in a snow storm | Thunder Mountain

- A few weeks back I was on the east coast and I went to visit Thunder mountain. This is a place that I have been wanting to go to for a while now. I knew it had one huge scary jumpline called Fort Hill and I wanted to face the challenge of hitting as many jumps and drops as I could. The first time I went I got thru the first two drops and then got up to the very challenging "dirt to dirt" jump.....I was so scared of it that I actually left the park without hitting it. I was heading out the next day back to the West Coast and I could not stop thinking about how I should have hit the jump. I knew it was now or wait till next year to be back.....That was too long, I pushed back my trip and went back to Massachusetts. I got there this day with one goal in mind and it was to overcome this intimidating jump. Thankfully ran into two other riders that we're hitting this specific jump too. Carrie was one of the people hitting it, she instilled the confidence that I needed and had me follow her through the line my first time! I was happy to walk away healthy and feeling accomplished, Its days like these that make me fall in love with riding bikes more and more.
Because I pushed the date back for my drive I hit some gnarly weather. This was hands down one of the most stressful drive across the country that I have ever done and hope to never experience again. I went from New Jersey to Lodi, California. It took me about four long days. Happy to be back on the west coast for the next month.

Hi Heather, a pro tip for parking overnight in ice and snow is to lift the wiper blades into the up position and they won’t freeze to the windshield and makes it easier to scrape and clean.

I used to love your videos but recently you’ve been filming your biking only in portrait which is cool for reels and shorts but for TH-cam long form videos it’s kind of lazy. Seems like we’re just watching leftover reels or throwaway footage. I still love your old videos though.

@@HeatherMunive the first one isn’t too bad it just looks scary like most of the features on Fort Hill. I will say its one of the funnest jumps on the line. Now the last one is very intimidating i feel though once you have hit the 1st one a bunch then the last one is very doable i have the last one left to clean the trail from top to bottom 🤘

Another "Ballsy Jump Video" I know I can't do that on my Norco Sight e-bike...tooo heavy, but that's o.k. for now. I am converting it to Mullet set up and will have to work up to jumps and drops 1/2 that size....and you think your scared??
We work in weather like that. Can't say it's fun. The joys of living in the upper Midwest. Tomorrows windchill is going to be -10 f.

I didn't know sprinter vans used Diesel and def btw if you go to truck stops they have def pumps instead of using the jugs

Awesome job!! Definitely looks like you could preload your jumps a bit more, you have plenty of speed but need a bit more pop to clear comfortably. Keep it up!

You should get a frost guard cover for the front window or some stand off wedges for the wiper arms so you don't have to scrape the windows when it snows and freezes.

I80 can be a fun drive in the snow. Have driven it many times in worse conditions.

I would have definitely gone south but I had to arrive to Northern California and that was the fastest route. I will re think that route next time haha thank you for watching 😊

Awesome work on the jump. Western Nebraska is windiest driving conditions I've ever been in -- but it least it was during the summer for me. Next time you need tires, look at Michelin CrossClimate 2s. They're all-seasons, but also rated for snow. I used to swap tires every season (Midwesterner), but no longer. /dadmodeoff
Yeah driving through Wyoming was sooooo windy I will probably choose a different route next time if I can avoid it. Thank you for the suggestion on tires I will look into them!
What is DEF?
It’s diesel exhaust fluid. It’s supposed to help clean the emissions from the engine.
I'm guessing your not from an area that gets snow lol

Great job at the drops and jumps Heather , you should really consider doing how to videos and talking about bike set up and all of that good stuff that would really help other riders that are trying to progress.

I miss the snow ❄ ..but living in Southern Arizona in the winter months is nice. It's our prime riding season November through March.

@@HeatherMunive holy cow, it's a bit cold for me in Northern Arizona, Flagstaff, Prescott and Sedona only have highs in the mid 50's right now...too cold for me ja ja. Heck I won't even go up to Mt. Lemmon in Tucson until it warms up in the late mornings right now. I prefer them 60 and 70 degree temps ha ha. Ride Safe!

FYI I get my DEF at truck stops like Loves at the pumps on the big truck side. No hassle or plastic waste and way cheaper.
