I'm personally a "Plotter" by trade, but I've been dabbling in "Pantsing" every now and then. How about you?

I prefer to be a plotter, but as a series of creative writing sessions have demonstrated, I'm equally adept if not better as a pantser.

I write genre stuff exclusively, so plotting is critical in my process.

I'm very much a pantser. I've tried plotting, but it's always failed spectacularly when my characters go haring off on their own, and I'm left throwing something together with zero idea what's going on.
It's just better for my blood pressure if I just drop these people in a world and write down what they set on fire (figuratively *and* literally)

Plotter for sure! I stop watching shows that pants like Riverdale 🤣

I keep getting pantsed while attempting to plot personally.

honestly I think this show is what 13 reasons why wanted to be. Its serious and dark and touches on teen life while still not taking itself too seriously and keeping a bit of separation from reality that makes it feel less damaging to watch.

I've definitely heard a lot of things about "13 Reasons Why" that turned me off from watching it. So hearing that Euphoria does a better job at it while missing all the "yikes" stuff puts me at ease. lol

I find that on the spectrum of plotting v. pantsing that my preference of one over the other depends very much on the format. In non-serialized media, I definitely prefer plotting because I want the story to get to the point. In serialized media on the other hand, I am a big fan of pantsing since I am generally going to be spending more time with those characters anyway. However, as with the railroad v. sandbox spectrum in gaming (which is really just the plotting v. pantsing spectrum under a different name), the audience/player engagement suffers if you swing too far to either end.
Also, this video has made me want to subscribe to HBO's streaming service more than any of their commercials. Euphoria sounds really good.

I agree with this. My current project is very much in the pantsing camp, since I'm working with people through character workshops to best define what their individual character wants to do while writing the script. It's kind of an experimental tabletop RPG-style of writing.
I will be a 'plotter' at times, however, but I always want to be sure I'm happy with the character doing that rather than shoehorning the action in for the sake of plot. If it fits the character, I keep it in.

Zendeya is a great actress with a lot of range and Euphoria is definitely on my watchlist, but I just haven’t gotten around to it.

Euphoria is amazing and I'm excited for season 2.
The character development, pacing, soundtrack, cinematography, just everything in my opinion was just as it should be. There was not a single thing that should've been cut or changed
As with my identity IRL, I'm definitely in the grey area between plotter and pantser

I liked the aesthetic and four of the characters, and that was enough to keep me watching.

I’m definitely a mix of a both but more a pantser for this one reason. I think that pantsing as a means of character development is good because it plays off that that your characters are living and breathing. That they aren’t just vehicles for the viewer/reader to follow the plot in. But characters who actively engage in the world around them. It’s the difference between choice and control. Control can take more emphasis in a narrative that happens to characters versus choice when characters individual emotions and motivations drive the narrative. Just my thoughts I love you La’Ron!

I have indeed watched Season 1 of Euphoria.
I was first interested in the series because of its showrunner, Sam Levinson. Back in 2018, he released a movie called Assassination Nation that I absolutely loved and felt didn't get enough attention at the time.
So I went into Euphoria with the hope of it being as good as Assassination Nation. Turned out it was JUST a little better than.
Suffice to say, Season 2 can't come fast enough...as soon as it's safe to resume production of course.
Also, Assassination Nation is available on Hulu and you all should give it a watch just to see if it's your speed. :)

Has to confess only reason I begin to watch this show because wasn't so impressed Zendaya's performance in "Far From Home", specially by the fact that she play a small but important part in the Dune movie. But I was happily disappointed in my prevision.

I’m 100% hot for Kat. This show was great and each character brings something interesting to the narrative.

This is the first time, I've been this early for your video, yay!
I'm so glad you mentioned that this is a character writer's dream cause as someone who prefers stories, books and, especially fanfiction in this style; I hadn't even realized there was a name for this. Lol 😄
I love the show and really enjoy the characters, well most of them; and I really appreciate that the focus is on the characters, has that's usually my favorite part of a show. For me, I can understand why a plot would really useful and good for a story but as long as it's interesting enough I'm usually good with that, and I'm more into on the characters and how they develop.

    Best show of last year!
Southern California? I, and some other fans I think, thought they were being intentionally vague about the location?

Probably plotter. When I think of the improvisational style necessitated by being a pantser, it makes me nervous. That said, I want to be one!
