Wow, every time I watch your video's I learn at least one thing new. I knew about how to make the camera position itself for interior elevations, what I didn't know is that we can use the same tool to see only counter tops with no cupboards. that's AWESOME! thanks for taking the time and teaching me something new.
i don't usually comment but when i do it means a lot thank you very much you saved us tones of time me and my friend are on a dead line for our design project that is due in 2 days and we needed to get the sections and all of that from the 3d model
Thanks so much I’ve been using the section plane on my elevations and using those images for my presentation which gives it a blurry looking elevation but now with this tip of using the position camera I can now render the elevations in twilight render thanks so much such a life saver
Great video Justin! Thank you! I just finished my "German family home" project. I will put some renders on line tomorrow. If I can get any Lumion time I will try to put some videos on line to. This was the greatest project so far. Great fun! I learned a lot about textures and normal maps. Greetzzz from the Netherlands!
Thanks Willem! I saw some of your videos on Facebook - your textures are looking really good! It seems like you did some good stuff with GIMP too if I remember correctly. Very impressive!
Before retiring, I created facility designs, to include the equipment and interface schedules in AutoCad. After retirement, I took up woodworking and discovered Sketchup Make to create 3D designs of furniture and casework designs. When asked to create some designs for commercial application, I purchased Sketchup Pro and Layout. I am able to create the design in Sketchup but was having issues with Layout. Your "TheSketchupEssentials" series has helped me immensely in working more efficiently in Sketchup and introduced an insight into Layout, which has been invaluable to me.
Awesome - I'm glad those have been helpful to you. I'm going to continue creating Layout tutorials every now and then, so hopefully I'll be able to get you some more useful stuff. Thanks for watching!
This was a great tip thanks a lot! I wanted to ask another thing can we not render these set views? I'm using vray plugin, and every time I render the view it renders the exterior of the model and not the scene set. Please let me know how can we render internal elevations in sketchup if anyone can help, thanks!
Really great tip. Thanks for sharing. Have you found it quite reliable with multiple scenes? I know for a while hiding a group in one scene and unhiding in another was really flaky (seems fixed in 2017), so wondering whether you can rely on this trick.
Hi Dan - Honestly, I haven't used it in models with tons of different scenes, so I don't know the answer to this. Honestly, if I'm dealing with a bigger model, I'd probably want to set up section planes anyway. Sorry I couldn't help more!
Thanks for replying Justin. I use section planes all the time but this looks like a nice technique, especially for quick projects. I'll try on a larger project when I get a moment. Will write a comment if I notice any issues. Great channel by the way!
Just that it's very quick. It doesn't make sense in every situation, but it's nice to have as an option if you don't feel like messing around with a section. Thanks!

Thanks Jack - glad you liked it!
Mister Justin, you did it again. That's a neat trick I'll be using tomorrow making Layout docs on my latest model.
Thanks Chris - let me know how it went!
An excellent tutorial addressing a somewhat complicated subject in Sketchup. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!

I'm generally fighting against the clipping plane cutting out what I want shown. Nice to see it can be useful to skip the section plane.
Sometimes it makes sense, sometimes it doesn't, but it's always nice to have another tool in the toolbox. Thanks for watching!

Thanx. Nice trick.

Huh! That's a good tip!
Thanks - glad you liked it!
woooooooow amazing!!!!!
Glad you liked it!
Not sure what the benefit of this trick is in comparison to regular section cuts?
Just that it's very quick. It doesn't make sense in every situation, but it's nice to have as an option if you don't feel like messing around with a section. Thanks!
TheSketchUpEssentials That's true indeed. Other than that keep up the good work Justin, I find your videos very informative!
