It is the bassist before the one on stage (Masashi) who passed. Thr previous bassist was Jasmine Yu and this entire song (including the silence they threw in at the end) is dedicated to him.
It always hit me in the feels everytime they do that. I still miss him to this day.

LOL, the Japanese 'visual key' phenomenon has taken you by surprise. What a contrast between the stereotypical Western portrayal of metal (black leathers, tattoos, aggression, shouting & grunting) and these Japanese guys.
A truly awesome band, all phenomenal musicians. Symphonic power metal at its finest! Next up: X Japan!

@@mattcoats580I've seen a vid placing Hizaki "against" Syu from Galneryus but imho there's no point (unless you're joking) since I hardly see them "competing". They're both great musicians, in slightly different genres.
Your reactions are awesome.. so glad you reacted to Versailles.. love this band. Hizaki (guitarist in the dress on the right) is male. The musicians are phenomenal. Kamijo's voice is one of a kind for sure.

Yes this song is a tribute to their former bassist Jasmine Yu, who tragically passed away (I think shortly before they got signed by major record company) This particular show is at biggest venue in Japan that band always dreamt to be at hence incorporated minute of silence.
This is a tribute song written for their original bassist Jasmin You who passed away a few years earlier and months after the band signed to a major label. Its why this song is probably Versailles longest and parts throught out to be very emotional.

Faith & Decision was written by Hizaki [guitarist on the right from audience point of view] in rememberance to Jasmine You their former bassist. They always dreamt of playing Budokan one day [it is a very famous venue - you have seen it quite a lot already.] and when they finally managed - this live! - he wasn't there with them so when they playing this song they worked in that small silent section towards the end of the song - you can see the blue butterfly lighting up in the background like a church window which makes you look up to heaven - it is a symbol for Jasmine You. I don't know but I like to believe that everyone there felt his spirit in that moment :)
It's funny you taked about that prince/princess theme because these are actual songtitles XD
A lot of people mention how they look like video game characters but it might be good to notice that some video game characters where actually designed after VK artists so it might just be the other way around 😉

@ziakolobo indeed, one of the best through composed long form suites from a rock/metal composer. Though if reacting to one of the only 2 live performances, the second piano solo (where Yoshiki more or less commits musical suicide with Rachmaninoff motifs) runs a little long and can seem self indulgent and grinds proceedings to a halt. But even with all of that I still love every second of those live cuts.
To think, they were releasing and performing a piece like that while in the West at the same time Nirvana was making it unfashionable to known how to play your instruments at a high level.

I've thirsted after a Hizaki ESP custom for the last 10 years. Metallic red body with the gold rose accents and scalloped frets from 13 on...hnnnguuuggghh
Thanks for taking this song up after the Jupiter vid. Besides Faith and Decision I'd say Revenant Choir, Rose, or Flowery (the primary basslines from either of the last two tracks will potentially melt your face off) would be good choices to get a wider sampling of their songwriting stylings.
And from the Jasmin You years Antique of the Future would give you a good handle on their major influences from the Japanese metal scene from the 80's and 90s. Its pretty much Versailles writing an X-Japan song, with some hints of Malice Mizer thrown in.
For anyone interested, there's this same performance video with English subs.
Just to get your facts straight, it was the former bassplayer, Jasmin You, that passed away, which in the end probably was the main reason the group broke up, and the guitarplayers Teru & Hizaki formed Jupiter.
The bassist in this video replaced You and his name is Masashi. Oh and BTW Hizaki isn`t a woman he is a hot sexy man wearing a beautiful dress.
Just going to correct you a bit.
The reason Versailles took a break was because Kamijo wanted to focus a bit on his solo carrier.
And Jupiter was probably created, around that time in order for Hizaki and Teru to have an outlet. Where they also could go a bit off the track of Versailles ( Jupiter is more of a pure power metal band).
However Versailles was about to release a new single this year, however it was delayed because of the virus.
So we will probably get that around Q1 next year (hopefully also a album following it).

Probably the very best "visual Kei" bands there ever was or will be. Teru and Hizaki on guitars (both male...GOTCHA!! ("She's a killer guitarist") are a superb duo and continue to this day as "Jupiter" with new bass, drummer and vocalist. Jasmine Yu was the previous Bass guitarist before Masashi...and to who the song was dedicated but let's not put down the musicianship of Masashi....he is a superb bass player! Yuki on drums was a massive loss though when Versailles split up....he is a phenomenal tub thumper!! As for vocalist....well they are a law unto themselves aren't they? A few came and went...but please....go watch.....and react to "Jupiter" the latest reincarnation of Versailles....and check out the vocalist.....I think you'll approve.
