Yeh. Bundling together minor startles with the jumpscares casts a broad net especially if there are self inflicted scares (not intended by the game) like Pat had a lot of in a couple of this year's videos.

Shitstorm Protip: If you reduce the playback speed to .75 (click the gear icon on the video) it makes jumpscares a little bit easier to take. If you're really a boss, you can also write down the jumpscare timestamps when you do this so you can post them (use a spoiler tag, please!) for others who need them. To people complaining about jumpscare timestamps: understand that different people's brains react differently to different stimuli. Some people's brains need very little provocation to send out the "time to panic" chemicals. Not only that, but some people's bodies react more strongly or even differently to "time to panic" chemicals. The same excited little thrill you get at a jumpscare might produce something very unpleasant in another person.
Pretty sure Spooky Jumpscares and Anatomy were both games Matt played beforehand while Pat played and those are one of the best Shitstorm vids. I don't see how Matt not being the babby is a problem. Even in PT where he wasnt scared while the two cowered were entertaining.

Walking simulator: Just keep walking endlessly until something happens 3.) Takes place in an abandoned asylum/hospital 4.) Something spooky happens in the bathroom 5.) long hallways = bad 6.) red = scary 7.) need a code hidden somewhere to get passed a door
@@YAH2121 you forgot 8: no self defense, all you can do is run away. Not only is this annoying because you're effectively given a time limit to find the key but it also makes the monsters less scary and more of a nusence since it's killing you over and over again.

I remember watching this with my dad when it first came out 4 years ago. Was the only video downloaded on my phone. He couldn't understand why I'd watch someone else play a game but he was captivated throughout the video.
So which would be the worst Matt's Nightmare? 1. A Woolie sized Pat. 2. A Pat sized Matt. 3. A Pat sized Crymetina 4. Alternate universe Pat & Woolie that are females and basically are the exact same as they are now. Except for certain events in their past that Matt can't remember. But Matt has memories of them being guys throughout he's life until this very point in time and everyone else in he's life also has only memories of this alternate universe.
Matt wanted more creepy places. He said hospital, basement, bathroom, ICP concert, and farm. I'll add prison, school, morgue, Victorian mansion, and Woolie's place.

There's good money in the scrap. Especially if you can find some relatively good condition medical equipment. Even just some parts out of a medical machine (MRI, heart monitor, x-ray ect.) could be worth worth a decent bit of money.
"We have played too many of these". All modern indie horror games are the same. First person, girl or Blad man monsters. Find keys to progress. All story telling is in notes. Enviroment is 90 procent dark.
"This game does not seem to believe in backwards progression". The first part you encounter you have to go out the door you go through to ostensibly start the game in order to find a way around a locked door blocking progression.

so we're 11 days in and pat is starting to get frayed nerves. I get it though, if i'm on edge a lot i start to get adrenaline headaches from being in a constant state of fight of flight. And it's not from the jump scares, it's from the general ambiance of the games (which have been pretty good this year so far.) This one probably had the best sound design thus far.
Damn, I never actually thought of that. What happens to horror games when notes are considered dumb? When something like handwriting becomes mostly a relic of the past, what do you replace it with? Notes have been a mainstay in horror games as a means to convey background and lore without the use of cutscenes... Interesting thought.
When you said "urban explorer's nightmare" I was so happy, and then consequently so sad when the game turned out to be not that at all. I'd love to see a "horror" game where you're actually just a stupid kid exploring abandoned factories and hospitals, and bunkers and sewers and shit like that and the main scares would just simply be the authorities out to get you.
It's not that it's so scary that it's indescribable, it's that it's so alien to anything a human would have the ability to comprehend that it's scary. If you don't get that part, you completely miss the point of Lovecraft.

Technology is already kind of hurting horror beyond "Why would you write notes?" Anymore, a horror movie/game maker trying to isolate the protagonist needs to figure out a reason for a character's phone being useless.

There's good money in the scrap. Especially if you can find some relatively good condition medical equipment. Even just some parts out of a medical machine (MRI, heart monitor, x-ray ect.) could be worth worth a decent bit of money.

"This game does not seem to believe in backwards progression". The first part you encounter you have to go out the door you go through to ostensibly start the game in order to find a way around a locked door blocking progression.

so we're 11 days in and pat is starting to get frayed nerves.
I get it though, if i'm on edge a lot i start to get adrenaline headaches from being in a constant state of fight of flight. And it's not from the jump scares, it's from the general ambiance of the games (which have been pretty good this year so far.) This one probably had the best sound design thus far.

What happens to horror games when notes are considered dumb? When something like handwriting becomes mostly a relic of the past, what do you replace it with? Notes have been a mainstay in horror games as a means to convey background and lore without the use of cutscenes...

I find its most effective to play games looking through a toilet paper tube. Best way to set that FOV way down.
When you said "urban explorer's nightmare" I was so happy, and then consequently so sad when the game turned out to be not that at all. I'd love to see a "horror" game where you're actually just a stupid kid exploring abandoned factories and hospitals, and bunkers and sewers and shit like that and the main scares would just simply be the authorities out to get you.

Technology is already kind of hurting horror beyond "Why would you write notes?" Anymore, a horror movie/game maker trying to isolate the protagonist needs to figure out a reason for a character's phone being useless.
