I just took a T2 back to the store thinking it was broken! Your explanation of each wire is very helpful! The instructions in the box are worthless! Thanks!
I bought a Royalton 2-stage furnace. I gave it to my friend and it is 60 miles away from here, I have never been able to make this Honeywell thermostat work, I bought one before and we gave up on it as we did in this case again. The furnace says not to hook up the C wire but it doesn't talk about two-stage thermostat connections. I don't know what to switch position is I will check it when I go back to town but we could not get it to operate heat at all. And I contacted them but it was Friday so it's the weekend now and I appreciate the knowledge that I got from this video. I'll get back to you and tell you my progress and we'll check out your wiring charts. I checked out your thermostat wiring charts and it doesn't talk about two-stage furnaces. I would prefer the old-fashioned double Mercury thermostat without all the confusion, and they're not on offer at Lowe's Home Depot.
Thanks for this... had a A/C no compressor start problem after doing a breaker identification exercise. Found my yellow line not continuous to the compressor. Traced that back to a failsafe connection on the condensate pump. If the pump stopped it would shut down the compressors. That pump was plugged into an outlet we couldn't identify. Once power was restored to that the compressor started. Your description of how the wiring works gave me a much better handle on how to track it down. Thank you again!
The BEST explanation of a Honeywell thermostat install I've seen! I just purchased a T6 zwave Honeywell pro series thermostat and your video helped my install tremendously. Many thanks for a very detailed video
Best explanation yet! I found that the installer incorrectly wired my T6 so it never ran properly from day one. They had the white wire on "W" which is wrong for a heat pump system. I replaced it with an RTH8500 unit and I also have noticed that the outside unit runs much quieter now. I'm not sure why but the T6 was the date code that is supposed to be defective.
Very timely; I ended up with an Ecobee installation; however, you should know I have followed your channel for over 3 years; my home system which is 3 years old and installed by a reputable HVAC company because I was away from the area and my wife needed AC during a heat wave. Bottom line, the Bryant thermostat went blank; I followed one of your diagnostic instruction videos, and located a wire short in the condenser, tested all components and wires, and kept telling my wife I thought it was the thermostat! Since the unit is under warranty, the HVAC installer diagnosed and replaced the thermostat (with Ecobee). BTW, the 3amp little popper is a must with this type of diagnostic workflow. Thank you.
This helped me out so much. I just bought a house and there are only 4 wires with this unit and they used the blue wire for the Y. I think this gives me a way to get a C Wire and keep the other 4 connected.
@@acservicetechchannelCan you please help me sir? I just installed a Honeywell T5 smart thermostat tonight and can't get it to power up after I turned the power back on at the fuse box.
Great video. Im looking to upgrade to a wifi thermostat for my heat pump and this video will definitely help. I just need to figure out where to connect my unconnected c wire in the pump unit .
This was a Very Helpful video that allowed me to install our new thermostat with confidence. And... IT WORKED ! There were only two wires (black and white) and the instructions were Not Clear, but this video was. R & C is all we needed. Thank You.
4:24 in my old thermostat, I have a wire jumper from u1 to r and a staple jumper from r to rc . The main red line coming from wall goes into rc . Do I need to keep these jumpers or will the t9 take care of it automatically? I have a fresh air intake (I believe that is u1) thanks
Honeywell always made my system run all the time. Changed to a WR/Emerson and it’s running normal. I used to think all thermostats were the same but nope!
I know it's been a while since your post but came across an HVAC video concerning your problem . Apparently Honeywell had an issue with some of these thermostats . If you look at the back of your thermostat an on the red label you'll see the model number. Right after that should be a 4 digit number. The problem thermostats have a code between 1917 through 1940 per that video. I'm betting your problem thermostats fell between that range. Best of luck.
While this may be the best explanation of how these things work, it still didn't cover what I need. I cannot believe that literally has covered rooftop package units where the thermostat goes directly to the rooftop unit, which has the heat pump and A/C combined into one package with no air handler in the middle.
Great video but it still left me questions. I have a Honeywell T6 Pro with the external temperature sensor which supports dual fuel. I have a single stage heat pump and gas boiler. So I configured the temperature change (turn off the heat pump, turn on the boiler) to 40 deg F. It seems obvious that I setup for dual power supplies (Rh and Rc) and control the boiler via the W (heat) wire. But what happens to Aux/E? Are they in effect disabled? Or is the thermostat smart enough to know that when the temperature difference is above a couple of degrees that it needs to call for heat via the W wire?
You can look up the model thermostat and verify that it is in fact for dual fuel and the settings will allow you to set this up. There should be a differential that you can set. We usually set this for 10-15 degrees or so because we don't want it shifting back and forth.
@@acservicetechchannel The differential setting is called "Droop," and it's available on the T6 thermostat, but not the T5. I've read in different places that the Droop threshold will trigger the aux heat anytime the indoor temp is lower than the programmed temp by the determined number of degrees, but I've also read that it will only trigger if it drops below the threshold *after a heating call* from the thermostat, while the heat pump is supposed to be running. I'm not sure which is true.
The U terminal we see there, that can also be used for a connected dehumidifier right? Say for example, if a client had a heat pump system setup that also included a Santa Fe Compact70 (formerly Ultra Aire 70H) dehumidifier inside the mechanical closet with the air handler, how then would we go about wiring it up to the thermostat?
The W2 wire was not explained. I understand it is for second stage heat on a 2 stage furnace. My question is how/when does the stat call the stage 2 heat? Does it look for a temperature differential (room is at 16C and the stat is set for 20C and recovering from a temp set-back overnight) or does it monitor the time taken to get to the set temp and fires the furnace's stage 2 after a set amount of time?
If i have a honeywell r7284 connected to this controller with a 2 wire configure to an oil furnace, can i run a third wire to the G on the thermostat to somewhere on the envirocom to allow me to run the fan separately from the furnace so i can recirculate the air?
On an old honeywell thermostat I have a black goin to c and blue going to another c terminal. It's an old honey well thermostat. Are there 2 commons on the one your covering ?
I don't have the "C" wire ran. Could I move the "G" fan wire over to "C" and still have the furnace operate normally without the option of the fan which I never manually use? (Question is to upgrade to a smart thermostat from a 4 wire battery operated one)
I have the t6 and was having issuss. The system has been working fine but lately when the target temp is reached the ac wont turn off. Air is cold, no freeze ups, condensate line flowing. Apparenlty never has been. What kjnd of isdud might that cause
I know it's been a long time since posting, but I have a heat pump. Got everything hooked up fine, but my aux heat and emergency heat are the same. I previously had the TH3210 thermos and they were jumped together. I just hooked up the aux, because there isn't enough room for 2 wires in there, do I need to change that?
What I'm trying to understand my Vision Pro 8000 has a W and a W2 wire going out to a American Standard Heat Pump 4TWB3060B1000CA. The auxilary wire seemes to be the W2 wire connected to the heat pump. Think when I had that auxilary wire unhooked from the heat pump the air from the heat pump was warm but didn't seem to be as hot.
My old thermostat has a Black wire going to a DHM terminal (I believe a Humidity control). I am looking at the Honeywell TH8321WF but do not see a terminal for the Humidity label. Can you please tell me what terminal that is on the Honeywell units?
Just bought one of these Honeywell home t3 thermostats, I have a 4-wire electrical AC heater in my home, seems pretty basic, I hooked up yellow to Y green to G red to R and white to W Gray. I have a Goodman 5tn, 2 stage heatpump package for my house. Everything is in the unit that is outside except of course the thermostat. I have a Honeywell Pro Series model number TH6220WF2006 thermostat. The outside unit also has a 15kw heatstrip. Do you have any videos showing how to wire this unit specifically?
I'm trying to use a heat pump with no auxilliary strips and a boiler for 'emergency heat' when it gets below 35°, but can't get this t-stat to switch to boiler without the indoor fan continuing to run on the heat pump?
I had this problem too. After several lengthy calls with Honeywell tech support, I discovered most Honeywell thermostats are not capable of handling that setup. The T6 Pro (non-work) shown here is the only one. In Installer Setup (ISU) there are a couple of settings # 270 and 270 that control whether the thermostat runs the fan in Aux and Emergency heat mode. All other Honeywell thermostats assume you’re using a furnace as backup and always run the fan. I really like the Honeywell’s for everything else, so I’m probably going to just going to add a separate thermostat for the boiler.

Hi, I have the old Honeywell control, my white wire is connecting to the port "E" in the old board, but I didn't find the E in the Amazon thermostat, could you tell me which port in the Amazon control I should connect? Many thanks.
Not sure what you mean by amazon thermostat, that could be anything. If it doesnt have an E function then you dont have an emergency heat function in that thermostat, thanks!
I am currently having issues RTH6360 it goes straight to heat mode it isnt activating the reverse valve selenoid even with O/B wire in the O/B slot i am completely preplexed
You are not quite clear on how the Y2 is connected and how it functions,; could you please explain/clarify? Thanks !
Hello I live in miami, so our system has ac and in the same unit is the heat no extra furnace...my current honeywell thermostat has 4 wires only, blue in Y, red in R, green in G, white in W, because I don't have a furnace down here it just reverses the hot air back in the house, on my new thermostat there is a jumper connected to R and RC should I remove the jumper or leave it in.
If you have an email I can send you a picture
Is the 12 ftlb torque for the 3 bolts on top enough? It seems a little too loose considering its for the front strut/shock
I've got a electric furnace home, the furnace fan constantly runs whether it's on auto or on. I don't believe I have an outdoor sensor but I have a black and brown wire going into both terminals could this be causing my fan to always run?
What does the brown go to
Honeywell thermostats are probably the most versatile thermostat I’ve used.
Most people don’t use such many functions. Just like you pay higher price for something that you never use. It’s kind of waste money
My thermostat has a white wire with a aux next to it with a circle next to it with a slash mark , and it has another white wire ,that just says white ,which wire goes wher?
I only got 2 wires ones is black n the other is blame one ? For heat only that good or no?...
Hello AC Service Tech LLC, I need some help please.
My old thermostat had the red wire in the RC slot but the RC slot had a wire that was connected to RH which I am guessing that would be my jumper. My question is, on my new T3 where would that red wire go? to the R? or to the RC? Thank you in advance
The numbers are too small for our Senior Comunity Pls advice on bigger diaplay as a Pro 7 tstat
