King crimson, instead of time, manipulates fate or the future if you're adamant about it manipulating time.
Regardless of what you name it, it plays out the same : Diavolo activates king crimson's epitaph allowing him to see the next 10 seconds with perfect accuracy, everyone was fated to move a certain way and they do. Diavolo, however can ignore his fate for those 10 seconds and move freely in an intangible state meaning he can't attack himself or take damage in "erased time".
Once the 10 seconds run out however, he can instantly attack but he can only be in one place. He can trick people unaware of his ability by taunting them just before skipping time so they attack then but the attack will just faze through him and hit whatever's on the other side due to its inertia, be it another person or an object.
How do you think a mind is supposed to react if its destiny is completely changed? It gets severely disoriented.
In essence, king crimson is the original D4C, it can create a space were its own misfortune is negated and it can heal or essentially create a new user that has the same memories and motivation as the previous one.
About some theoretical matchups: The world inserts actual time in a timeline, adding extra fate where diaVolo has no control over since no actual time oasses, that is to day there are no fated events in between a fraction of an instant. Essentially king crimson gets donuted.
Against killer queen, in direct combat diavolo can be as reckless as he wants because he can negate the first bomb detonating or prevent him getting touched. If kira uses bites the dust on him, the first time he will blow up and time will rewind, the second time, king crimson will protect him from exploding meaning only kira gets sent back in time while the rest of the world just continues the timeline loop free while kira and whoever the bomb was planted on (it's not clear whether the host has to be a stand user or not since we only saw it on Hayato and the Paramedic lady who, as far a s we know weren't stand users) are stuck in the 1 hour loop, unfortunately he is unaware of what happens in each rewind, besides what he can glean from the people around him, he might therefore never figure it out and have trapped himself.
King crimson against king crimson is a stalemate but eventually boils down to which diavolo uses it the least, making it a very hardboiled and stamina driven battle.
      >!If diavolo uses king crimson while time reaches a singularity point caused by made in heaven, he can temporarily avoid being compressed to the point from which the big bang sprung. Thus however is only in 10 second intervals and relies on diavolo's stamina, that is if earth wasn't destroyed already or he simply dies of old age which once again depends on his stamina. Her his future sight is severely shitrend because of course that time frame is accelerated. Made in heaven could sneak up on him like that already, preventing his personality and possibly his stand from returning in the new universe.!<
      >!D4C can get blitzed by king crimson while it positions itself just when it emerges with a new valentine. He would die yo the menger amalgamation though since it's a constant effect unless it happens within 10 seconds where he becomes intangible while the other diavolo is consumed, thereby removing the danger. Against love train he can't do anything really since it is a reaction effect that doesn't rely on fate but on instant reflection, making diavolo's attacks useless, he might be able to phaze through the screen and kill valentine inside it though.!

I have a friend who bought a house that had been built in 1950 by a man who had four sons, the first born in 1951, like me. One of the bedrooms had wallpaper on the walls. My friend was not a wallpaper guy and determined that that room would be one of the first to undergo renovation. When he eventually ripped the paper down, one entire wall bore the illustration on the cover of this album. Turns out the home had been owned by the father of a high school friend of mine. He was very definitely the kind of guy who would be a fan of the King.

The thing that struck me most when listening to In the Court of the Crimson King for the first time was how modern it sounded. While I don’t think King Crimson was quite at the level of genius or influence that Pink Floyd or Rush were back then for prog rock, their production and complexity was just unrivaled, and still feels ahead of its time even today. It’s honestly amazing how perfect the sound is on their DEBUT album. When I listen to Rush, or ELP, or Pink Floyd, or Yes, or any prog rock band I think, “This sounds like it’s from the 60s or 70s.” When I listen to King Crimson, I think, “This sounds like it’s from the future.” Just an incredible band.

Absolutely, this album it is as fresh and as radical today as it was in 1969. "Poseidon" and "Lizard" are a lot of fun yet "In the Court of the Crimson King" is a masterpiece. For me, at least, "Epitaph" is THE best prog song ! When Macdonald and Lake left the band I almost cried.

This album is incredible. It still echoes through my life. I lived with it for decades, and first listened to it in 1970 when I was going to Berklee College of Music, constantly. I remember looking out my window on Huntington Ave., stoned, at the glass facade of the John Hancock Tower, listening to "21st Century Schizoid Man" and "I Talk to the Wind." And, of course, "Epitaph: March to No Tomorrow," and "In the Court of the Crimson King." I was always stunned. I still am. A brilliant array of songs, all pointing to mankind's ultimate destruction.

  • @vicariousgamer2871
    @vicariousgamer2871 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

In 1973 or 74 I was given this LP. Totally blew me away. In 78 I began a journey as a lead vocalist for a rock band and continued for many years. Though not having an advantage of being/working with top notch musicians as many many others experience, this dream of being a successful band faded. Eventually, (too long a story) I gave up trying as having a nonprofitable working band is WAY too much hard work. I salute any band who tries regardless of how well the outcome might be. I promise you music is a very tough gig, regardless of how well or poorly they do. Anyway, round about... I very rarely listen to contemporary music as I find much of it to be quite over rated and offensive. But funny thing is that the few bands that I listen to today are what I consider to be the best sounds ever produced. As I do posses many cd's, the one that I will almost always listen to is this phenomenal album along with Red, and Larks tongue in Aspic. Even though there are a number of great progressive rock bands of this music period along with umm, Genesis and the likes, I always seem to be drawn to this album in particular. I also have to say that regretfully I never did get to see them perform live. But I am definitely content to have been a child when artists like King Crimson and the likes were at an infantile state as well. In my opinion the prog rock era produced some of the all time best music ever to be produced. I always recommend to new parents to make sure to play this music for their children while they are very small in hopes that they will grow up to understand the beauty of it. And hopefully they too will give their children the gift of knowing what truly great rock music is. Maybe someday people will wake up to see how badly music has become and musicians will risk being great instead of making music which sounds like every other mediocre song ?

What bothers me about the first King Crimson band is that they only managed to last a year. With fame and notoriety the band created with their first album and live performances you would have thought they would want to stay together for at least a few years, no matter how bad the relationships of the band members became. But after reading a lot and watching interviews about Crimson since I first heard their debut album in 1970, I came to the conclusion that Robert Fripp was the one most to blame. The ever changing early 70's Crimson line ups and friction in the band is proof that Fripp was a pretentious perfectionist but also a brilliant musician. I met Adrian Belew after a Crimson concert in 2002, and after he spent a half hour talking to fans and signing autographs, I said to him "Fripp doesn't look as if he likes to mingle with his fans after a concert." and Belew responded "Robert doesn't like anything! [sic]" In the new Crimson documentary Belew made a comment about losing his hair during his tenure with Crimson. Fripp was a lot like Frank Zappa in the 1970's, who also changed band members constantly with no line up lasting for more than a couple years. When a great Rock musician reaches the plateau, power can become a catalyst for destruction. It's wonderful to watch Fripp and his wife do the "Sunday Lunch" videos.

    *King Crimson*
King Crimson is one of the more impressive Stands featured in the series. Both physically strong and possessing the ability to erase time and predict the future, King Crimson is described as invincible against all other Stands whose powers do not affect time.
    *Time Erasure*
King Crimson's signature ability is to erase a given frame of time lasting up to 10 seconds, starting from the instant the ability is activated. “During" this period of time, other people will be unable to experience anything that happened and will retain no memories of it either.
After the allotted time frame, they will suddenly find themselves in the situation they were supposed to be afterwards. There is, however, one instance where a person was able to see their double before finding themselves in their future position.
In the manga, Diavolo sees the erased time as a void filled with juxtapositions of what would have happened during this period in a fashion akin to Nude Descending a StaircaseW, allowing him to think out the next best action (for instance, when Bruno Bucciarati tried to punch Diavolo during the erased time, Diavolo saw Bucciarati's superimposed positions during his punch). The anime adaptation has Diavolo visualize a ghostly red image of his foe's next move instead.
Diavolo is unable to attack while King Crimson's time erasure is active. As a result, he often relies on the ability to avoid attacks and move himself into advantageous positions, such as enemy blind spots. Using his Stand's exceptional destructive power, Diavolo then directly attacks the enemy the moment King Crimson's ability ends.
However, Diavolo is also able to splatter his own blood onto an enemy's projection in anticipation of blinding them.
    *Epitaph*
Epitaph is a sub-Stand that assists and completes King Crimson's time erasure.
*Precognition:* From up to ten seconds, Epitaph gives Diavolo and Doppio the ability to see into and "forecast" the future, usually represented as images on the inside of their bangs.
The image produced includes the general area with Doppio/Diavolo as the main focus, allowing either of them to see what happens around them as well as directly at them. However, the visions are incomplete and only show the final result without the steps taken to it and thus can be subject to interpretation. In one instance, Doppio could see himself on the ground with a foot flying, but initially thought that the foot was his.
While the predictions seen by Epitaph are unavoidable, they still effectively only warn Diavolo and Doppio against incoming danger, allowing them to steer events to alleviate the damage such as when Doppio realized a pair of scissors would form inside his throat, he easily tore them out in order to save himself. King Crimson itself can prevent the predictions from being completed if it erases the right timeframe.
Likewise a Stand affecting Fate like Gold Experience Requiem which returns King Crimson's power to the "zero" state, can simply make the vision false as it steers Fate to its advantage.
Diavolo and Doppio often use the forecasting ability of Epitaph to predict any incoming threat, making sneak attacks ineffective against them.

Very little indepth research done. For example, Peter Giles didn't leave the band, Robert Fripp removed him and brought in Greg Lake. Michael Giles and Ian McDonald quit the band in mid December 1969. Greg Lake remained and quit in February 1970 when Fripp told Lake he was going to recruit other musicians to take Giles and McDonald's place and continue using the King Crimson name for the new band. But the major reason Lake left his association with Fripp was that Lake said he felt the band had been a democracy and Fripp was turning it into a dictatorship with Fripp the de facto leader.

Saying that Greg Lake "continued on" as the vocalist is not describing it accurately. Lake quit in February 1970 and in March 1970 he and Keith Emerson formed a partnership. King Crimson's management, EG Management, first picked ELTON JOHN to be the lead vocalist but Fripp vetoed it. Then PETER STRAKER, a vocalist in the cast of the London stage production of the musical HAIR was selected. However, PETER STRAKER'S management wanted too much money. In desperation Fripp asked Lake if he would be willing to record on the album as a "sessions" lead vocalist. Lake was willing but he demanded and was paid King Crimson's WEM P.A. system for his "sessions" work.

In 1969 the situation was bad. The Americans had about half a million soldiers in the Vietnam war, of which 10% weren't to come back. A new group emerged, this time in Britain, with Robert Fripp as lead guitar and Greg Lake as leading voice, while the words were by the poet Peter Sinfield who, even without playing or singing, was a full member of the band, because in the shows he did the lights. Their name was King Crimson.
The title of the third song of their first album is "Epitaph", and the first part of it is clearly a critical and dystopic answer to Simon and Garfunkel's Sound of Silence, while the second part is an even more dystopic prophecy that, after half a century, has not lost but increased its strenght, as can be seen in a clip of the 2018 tour of the band, still with Fripp, with Michael Jakszyk as singer and with three drummers.

I first heard this album when I was 7 years old. My father was in the Air Force and he had just been stationed to Ft. Hood, Texas. We were living in Las Vegas (Nellis Air Force Base) at the time, and he had to move his wife and 8 kids across the country. He purchased a 28 foot motor home and loaded us up, along with our German Shepherd, and began the journey to the east. As the motor home climbed over the Rocky Mountains, a summer thunder storm broke out. My older sister popped in her "Court of the Crimson King" 8-track into the stereo system, and this album became the perfect soundtrack for our adventure. It made a profound impact on me, and every time I hear these songs, I am transported back in time, to those mountains, to that storm, and I feel like I am 7 years old again.

The fact that Tool sent a heartfelt tribute to King Crimson with the intro/second last-verse of '7empest' and a bit of 'Invincible' in their last album Fear Inoculum connecting so much with 'Frame By Frame' shows how deeply seminal impact KC has still now on modern prog.
Shame that - not much was discussed about the legendary 'Bill Brufford'.
    It just works!!

It is September 2021 I was born in January 1980.. I finally listened to this record for the first time this past spring. Instead of lamenting that I didn't try harder to hear it at an earlier date, I am going to simply remark how thankful I am to have heard this year.
What was said about how popular the album is with multiple generations spreading out over the past 50 years recently came to my attention in the most awesome fashion. A friend of mine and fellow musician recently had a chance to purchase a customized Paul Reed Smith electric guitar. He decided to have the cover art from this album's sleeve worked into the finish. Whenever I pick it up during a practice and play it, I identify it as the 21st Century Schitzoid guitar

I remember buying a '69 copy at a Half Priced Books, what a score! Have loved and played it ever since. Did you know that if you cover up the mouth of the King Crimson picture on the inside of the record, you find that there's a sadness in the eyes, as a way of showing the darkness of the record. The image was artfully inspired & transformed from illustrations in the 1868 book "The Moonstone" by Wilkie Collins, into the 1960s generation vinyl record sleeve by Barry Godber. The Mellotron had been used by the Moody Blues for years before this album was produced. They weren't the original "Progressive Rock" band. Maybe one of the very best though, and yes, they were ground breaking and original in their own right.

@@CornerBoothGames ... Thank you! The Moody Blues were an extremely important band, long before the genre label "Progressive Rock" was even coined. Especially the "classic seven" albums... each one a masterpiece. All my friends that were fans of the Moody Blues loved "In the Court of the Crimson King" as well.
As for not getting enough credit?... you are right. Credit must be given to where credit is due.
I appreciate Lie's love for this music, that's why I gave this vid a view.... but... it's unrealistic to get any comprehensive "explanation" of ITCOTCK from someone so young.... It's not because of his age, it's because he wasn't around during the time of this band's genesis. No one at the time ever thought "oh wow! Now with this album, a whole new genre of music has been created that never existed before".
It more like blended in with a growing number of musical talents that created music that sought to overwhelm your very being and transported you to some alternate universe... or...some other time... or... deep inside..... or maybe just challenge your entire view on life. Folk Rock, Blues Rock, MoTown.... whatever... didn't even try to do that.
It was all very perfect centerpiece to our "Electric Coolaid" parties back in the early early 70's. Not a single note was wasted on us... heh heh :) I am eternally grateful for it.

P Heresy you are absolutely right! Unfortunately, I was not there to experience that time period firsthand, I was born in 85, but I grew up being exposed to a lot of very diverse musical tastes. My mom exposed me to a lot of classic rock, the British Invasion, everything that was going on around the Woodstock era and beyond. And my grandmother exposed me to Motown, a lot of great funk and soul music, and I fell in love with every bit of it. Our local classic rock and oldies stations played just a couple Moody Blues songs on regular rotation, but I looked up as much of their work as I could when I was able, and I bought their first 3 albums when I was about 12 or 13 and played them endlessly.
I'm a bit more recent in opening up to prog Rock because it wasn't something I heard much of growing up, aside from some of the obvious stuff that got regular air play like Rush. But I've been really enjoying the journey so far. I listened to Crimson King for the first time about 2 years ago, and I loved it immediately.
A bit of a side note, as much negativity and rudeness as there is on the Internet these days, it's really refreshing that music is the one thing that can still bring us all together. I love getting to have these conversations with people about things they are so passionate about, and of course I love getting to learn more about music through the experiences of others. Thanks for your reply!

@@CornerBoothGames ... big Smile form me!!
I have a daughter born in 1981 with a very similar story as yours. Makes me so happy we share that.
My son born in 1999.... not so much. Never listens to any radio. His musical taste comes mostly from playing video games and Soundcloud Rap. He has very little interest in "Dad Rock". He doesn't knock it though.
Come to think of it, he was stunned when I coerced him into listening to the original "21st Century Schizoid Man", having only heard the Kanye West's sampled version.
Maybe there's hope. As I grow older, i'm able to see how great the music was of my parent's generation, but didn't when I was 20. ;-p

      @CornerBoothGames 5 ปีที่แล้ว

P Heresy I think I was very lucky to fall in love with it from a young age, but I do believe a lot of people begin to open up to more diverse music as they get older. I've never had anything against newer music, though I much prefer the 60's through the 80's in general. But some of the stuff that's popular today, I just wonder if people have working ears anymore lol. But every now and then, I'll see someone that's younger commenting on a video for something from back then, and it always makes me smile.
