2018 Ducati Panigale V4 Prototype: Quest to Ride the New Superbike - ON TWO WHEELS

- Ride an 851, a 1299 Final Edition, and take a special trip to Italy to see Ducati’s Panigale V4 superbike in action and being built.
--
A new Ducati superbike is a rare thing. It's the motorcycle equivalent of a flower that only blooms every five years or so. For our team here, living and breathing in two-wheel fandom every day, the prospect of a MotoGP-derived four-cylinder Ducati superbike was (and is) exciting. With each rumor, leaked photo, cell-phone video, and small announcement, we chatted and speculated over what the bike would be like to ride. What would it sound like? Would it be faster than a 1299 V-twin? You might say the obsession grew to a point that we couldn't stand.
Half of an invitation to go to Italy and see the new Panigale in action was all we needed. We took a tour of the production line (which any guest can do, by the way), and soaked up an impossibly drool-worthy lineup of museum superbikes-851, 916, 999, 1098, 1299, and the new V4 all in one room. Nothing brings out the little kid in us quite like being at a motorcycle factory. Then the main event: swinging a leg over the very prototype that Casey Stoner rode to help the factory develop the new platform.
We brought cameras along so that we could share the experience with everyone we know. Hopefully the video above brings out the same unusual, adolescent level of enthusiasm that only the most special flowers… err, motorcycles, can really summon in all of us.

Ducati has shown a lot of trust to you guys, congratulations to both...
Fantastic!! Unsure what to be jealous about more - The 851 or the prototype! Awesome stuff!
PowerDrift waiting for your review guys.. with love from tamilnadu
PowerDrift ayeeeeeeee my boiiii
It would be a awesome addition in game of performance
wow
Almost feels like top gear in the early days, want more of that!
Excellent, Great and FANTASTIC video!!!! I'm looking forward to collecting my V4 Speciale in May!
650ib thats awesome! looking forward to watching your videos on that beast
Need a unboxing video, please 🙂🙂
Fuck yeah!
Please make Dan get one
OMG 650ib...........like all the OTHER commenters to yours here,we all *REQUIRE* (NOT "could you please? " NOT, "would you please"........) No,No,NO...........THIS is an ABSOLUTE *REQUIREMENT* to your TH-cam channel here, that YOU *MUST* (without ANY exceptions whatsoever),You MUST video this bike the very SECOND You get your hands on the grips!!! Capeesh??? LOL.
"Casey Stoner here just reporting for duty". I'm sure that's exactly what he says. hahaha ;)
Thier new lvl of editing hahaha
Nice try on the Aussie accent mate.
Words cannot describe how incredibly jealous of this experience AND how happy I am that you were able to share it with us. Any step that moves Ducati towards understanding the importance of the TH-cam and social media world in selling and getting information into the hands of its fans and riders is a step in the right direction for me. Well done guys. 👏👍
Jaret Campisi cammmpppiiissiiiiiii
Bidhan Phuyal haha yea buddy!!!!
aluisious good to hear. I had heard a rumor that Ducati corporate thought print media was going to make a comeback and didn’t respect the TH-cam community...
planning to get a new *cough bike *cough bro? XD
I already announced that I ordered the Speciale at the NYC motorcycle show :)
Talk about ducati trusting you with a prototype in those conditions....
I was thinking the same, zack must be a really well known reliable rider-journo, haha... and Motorcyclist Magz reputation too
R i v a l r y R i d e
Right i mean its 1 thing letting your best friend ride your bike let alone a prototype that nobody can get their hands on
damn you guys keep getting better and better each videos, and zack, damn you ride the prototype only a few have tried! haha...
Then you should have seen the videos they made under twowheels brand, especially the 1000 and supersport comparisons. They were so damn good!
@Pillokun I wouldn't say they're "keep getting better" if I haven't watch all of their videos all these years. isn't that obvious? haha...
R i v a l r y R i d e That is my point, they were doing pretty good content already therefore it kind of is a bit rude to say that they are getting better and better each video as if they were noobs in this field, especially if you have not seen any of their earlier stuff.
WTF, a bit rude??? LOL...c'mon dude, it's a compliment. is it so wrong to say someone getting better just because they're already good? is it no room for them to getting better just because they're already good??? that's just a really stupid way of thinking. I've been watched their videos since On Two Wheels were in Motor Trend channel, so don't even talk about "earlier" to me :) I don't even understand why my compliment to them become a useless stupid debate like this just because of your own wrong interpretation of it.
I went to the Ducati factory on my honeymoon (along with the Ferrari and the Lamborghini tours) and it was quite the pilgrimage. Next time I go I would love to rent a bike and do a track day at Mugello. That would be the dream.
future62 never cared to go to Italy till I read your comment. Time to start planning my next trip
I go to italy every year, drive down after lemans in one of Maranello s finest.
Last year i to went to the ducati factory. It was one of the better tours along with the Pagani factory tour. Recommended
Were as The MV agusta fatory was a let down, wish i had not bought one.:(
O2W is seriously my favorite series on all of TH-cam. Zack & Ari, keep up the great work!
at least the rain gave it a really cinematic look, great vid guys
2+2 is 4 minos 1 is 3 quick mafs
i'm just happy this comment got more likes than Jaret's lol
3 cylinders... mmmmmmm triumph
Best motorcycling series on TH-cam - another great episode. Thanks guys!
Its so beautiful, even it's a prototype.
Thank you for all effort you put in this video ;)
awesome video as always, i think these videos are the highest quality motorcycle vids that are out there on youtube
Amazing Vid guys, got the chance to test ride it and it was a blast!! Nice content/filming and above all filming. txxx
Quality of the content you guys are putting out these days is through the roof. Well done! Loved watching this.
This is my favorite video of MM so far. So well put together. I love that you started with the 851 and included a clip with Domenicali. Excellent job!
Great video! Nice to see an 851 still on the road. I remember when those came out and being blown away by how cool they were (and still are!). The bow to the 916 was funny, yet somehow totally appropriate. I can't believe my Scrambler was designed by a guy who was in his mid-20's at the time. Keep up the great work and looking forward to a full review of the v4 Panigale or an MC Commute on it.
That guy Mark Hoyer is making a magnific job with this videos. Congratulations for all the team of Mototcycle Magazine, excelent video.
Very entertaining! You guys continue to raise the bar of motorcycle journalism.
Not when they say both bikes share Belt driven cams - 1199's and 1299's have cam Chains!
I didn't even notice who's video was this when i clicked but as soon as it starter and i heard Ari's voice i realized what was it and how high quality this is. That's how you knew quality content. Ari talks=High quality content (+always fun to watch)(+Zack's super cool too)
3 seconds in and I've clicked the like button. I already know this is gonna be epic. Motorcyclist Magazine puts out the best two-wheeled content on the internet. Period. Keep up the outstanding work, guys!
Wow amazing video! I’ve been to the museum myself and god damn i nearly passed out a couple of times! Such a stunning display of historic bikes. Im also blown away by the quality of this video and that you actually got to film this for us, cant imagine what it must be like riding a v4 panigale in Italy! Stuff of dreams...
You guys could be the "Grand Tour" of motorbike shows. Keep it up. The videos area brilliant.
Hey guys, love your content! Just wanted to say, even though you didn't get to rip it open, the cinematic that you produced with the slow motion rain hitting that slick ass prototype. Wow, my new favorite motorcycle shot!
Wow, if I were a rich man, a young man, a highly trained and skilled rider with easy access to a track! Alas, I’m not, so I’m more grateful than ever that Mr. Honda gave us the 90° V-4 VFR. Over many years I’ve owned and ridden most all the engine configurations; but there’s something magic about the 90° V-4. And, at 66 years old, I can make a few tweaks (bars, pegs) and I’m still able to comfortably ride the VFR without mocking the reason the bike’s produced. But yeah, the Ducati does look wonderful . . .
Very well put together guys. Excellent job on getting the 851 and Panigale together. Keep them coming
Zack your Italian mission even with rain didn't fail, I call it "the scouting recon part." Totally fine for weapon analysis. Now send Ari to Italy to complete the mission!
This video was so awesome. I was so happy I was about to cry. There are some motorcycles that make you happy even when watching other people ride them.
Nice! Loved how you guys filmed this one. Cabin fever is real during the snow season.
Flamin Heck mate...That's the best bloody Casey Stoner impersonation..
I just love the reviews when Zach and Ari doing it together....The best in the world.
Damn guys the production quality is just amazing. Thank you.
Multo benne video guys! Great story, humor and angles. Love the production! Keep it unique and innovative on this professional level!
Really enjoyed this video - you guys weren't the typical "this is soooo sick" Americans reviewing a bike, so that helped hugely :-D Subbed.
this is one of your guys best videos ever. Great job! I could watch this all day. I didn't even care that you didn't get to unleash the beast but it was still an awesome video and you guys make it.
Put a 916, a 999 and an 1198 in between and you've got yourself something really special to look at. Very cool video! Shame about the conditions on track.
CEO of Ducati but so humble. The sweater, so common and not fancy at all. Respect.
Great video! You guys are so knowledgeable and articulate. Perfect blend of entertainement and education. Thanks again!
im so lucky to found this chanel, thank you guys
This is one of favs that you guys have done so far. Now take us to an Aprilia factory!
Dream tour inside Ducati factory!!! Excellent video.
Amazing video guys... Amazing... Words are short, my heart is pumping fast... The L-twins are going to the history books... 1299 Panigale final edition looks so so beautiful... We hope the V4 lives to its hype
The show is getting so much better!
Best part of this vid is seeing the new dash. That shit is awesome! Shows that a traditional tach is always best, but incorporating it into a beautiful digital layout is phenomenal.
The new format is incredible! Well done guys
Can't wait for the production bike first ride video.
It's the first time I have seen Ari on the bike ! 851 is looking cool and special!
best motorcycle content on youtube
Thanks for the first inside look! I can't wait to see and hear it up close.
Really enjoyed this video. Keep making them like this. And now that we actually know what the new Panigale V4 looks like, its safe to say it turned out pretty sweet!
Absolutely phenomenal! Really enjoyed. Cheers!
Fantastic job, you nailed it and got a 'sit down' with Domenicali. Rocking!
Absolutely loved the documentary style video for the great Ducati V4
Beautiful video! Great work guys
Loved the comedy in this video. Top notch work guys. Keep em coming
What an amazing video guys! Loved every second!
Fantastic story of your passionate trip to steel a test ride! Love the intro. I took delivery of number 450 FE a few weeks ago
i gotta say it looks GORGEOUS with that matte black and gloss red front guard
Awesome. Even in those conditions I would love to ride that V4. Great Video.
I really like your videos guys! Interesting, relevant and always delivered with professionalism. Keep it up.
Absolutely awesome that you guys got Domenicali in this. Great video!
The sheer excellence of this video has persuaded me to become a subscriber to the channel.
That was a really good video you guys 👍🏼. Sorry about the rain Zack. Can’t wait until you get another chance......
You guys are killing it, big time. Love the vids
The 851 is beautiful. In 1994 I wanted the 916 soooooooo bad. Sadly, I had to 'settle' for a Ducati 900SS CR. It was a lovely ride. I heart Ducatis
I hate when people over produce videos BUT!!! i will admit you guys did a great job with this one. It was alot of fun to watch...👍👍👍
i know the current technique is unbelievable, but my favorite is still the 851 (Y) great vid MoMag
As always, great video guys! Love them for the entertainment value as much as the info, keep them coming.
Thank you guys for a very entertaining video. Love the fact that Ducati, let you in and allowed you do your "creative stuff". Should have done a full length movie :) Congrats to everybody involved in this.
Terrific piece. This should be a 'show' on netflix or amazon prime.
Oddly enough the rain made the bike pop out more, beautiful bike despite being a complete beast. Amazing machine and video.
This video reminds me of a special review of 2014 josh hayes yzf R1... really good to see another amazing episode on two wheels... awesome you guys both... 👏
Love the storyline... good stuff, keep it coming.
12:43 - FRONT TUCK IMMINENT...!!! i think you handled the conditions quite well considering. yes RAINS work.
I enjoy these videos so much! please never stop :D
Greetings from Norway
It doesn't even take Zack even A SINGLE SECOND to throw the stereotypical italian hand up during his extra credit reel of "performante" hahaha, that had me in stitches.
What a scoop! I thought for sure this is click-bait, there's no way Zack rode a Pani V4, but sure enough, he did! Great work guys.
Well this was absolutely fantastic! Thanks for making this..
Excellent video gents!! Every new one an improvement. Thank you!!
This was brilliant, guys. Keep up the good work!
Your hardwork really shows in the video
Awesome video guys...made me fell in love with Ducati..finally!
My first trackday was in conditions exactly like this. I wish it could've at least been warm but I think you learn more riding in these conditions
Hey, new fans here from Indonesia. Really enjou your video, love it!!!
Awesome Video 👊✊️You guys deserve a million subs.Sydney,Australia.
The 851 Superbike the the motorcycle that got me hooked on two wheels. I might still have the MC issue with it on the cover actually somewhere in the attic. The new V4 is a dream. Very cool.
Nice Job guys! Always entertaining and informative.
That was an excellent video. Have my like.
I haven't even watched the video yet and I know it's going to be amazing
This episode was awesome. Reminds of old top gear comedy. You guys need and must be doing more episodes!! Please?!
Best. Commute. Ever!
You guys are awesome.
Well done fellas that was very entertaining.
Really like this style of video, please keep it up!
lol that was a good "casey stoner". keep up the great videos
Awesome Casey Stoner impersonation 👍
Awesome.. love this great enthusiasm for Duc and attempt to ride it. This bike sounds, looks, describes as the biggest badass out there..
Appreciate the video, entertaining as always. I think the fawning over the sound of the v-twin at the beginning was a little much though. It just sounded like a v-twin to me...okay maybe a v-twin with aftermarket pipes.
Enjoyed the feature. If you guys are ever in Denver, let me know. I'll buy the first round!
