And yes he washes his hands & arms before & after. This vet is a freakin Saint. He's saved so many animals. Ya'll can calm down now. He's a very loving kind caring vet/man. We love him ❤️
Back when the doctor who filmed this put the videos up on TH-cam in the first place, people were asking for gloves so often that I once joked in the comment section that everybody demanding gloves from that day on would have to pay 10€ fine (to fund the vet clinic). He quite liked the idea 😄.

This is/was a clinic in Gambia. The doctor was there for I think 6 years and finally became so fed up with negligent owners that he left. Even after he admonished or educated them, sometimes the same dog would show up. I don’t know if another vet took over. It comes from the dog lying in dirty conditions where flies lay eggs that then burrow into the dog as larvae.
I think this is why trypophobia is a thing. It stems from our fear of bugs and parasites. Its kind of the same feeling you get when you lift up a rock and see hundreds of spiders running around.
One of the weird things about trypophobia (which I have) is that you cannot look away. I had to watch this whole damn thing...and now it will unsettle me for days.

Actually they would have had to just notice it. Mango maggots are laid and fully mature and come out on their own in 8 to 12 days. The dogs lumps would have not really been noticeable until the last 2 or 3 days when the skin opens and they begin to try and drop out.
@@aaronmicalowe The clinic in that location in Gambia is a free clinic so there was no excuse. Gambia is a very poor Country and the people are also very poor. Dogs are a luxury item there. When the Dr. tells these people the people don't really listen and the dogs get infested time after time

@@jinparksoulI honestly think it's not really a phobia (as in it's an irrational fear) but simply a natural instinctual aversion to myiasis and other signs of parasite infested and diseased skin/flesh. It's like how some people can tolerate the smell of rotting food more than others but most people would still find it revolting to some degree. It's the same with seeing many small holes, especially with something inside said holes, and especially in places it shouldn't be (like in skin or flesh). It basically looks like the symptoms of myiasis or decaying meat: aka things our instincts try to keep us away from. In short: I don't think there's anything unusual about how you feel about seeing tiny holes in skin. Your reaction is perfectly understandable 😊 Similarly I also don't think OP's reaction is out of place either: why wouldn't we get a satisfaction from seeing essentially disease be removed??

Возраст личинок примерно 12 дней, собака просто не там поспала. Мухи находят лёжки животных и откладывают личинок в подстилку, когда животное ложится лечинки ползут на тепло. Так что легко упустить заражение, если собака живёт не дома, но конечно ветеринар сетует что несреагировали и затянули.

Yeah he was teasing to a co-worker about eating a plate of them when she'd been working with him for 6 months. However, you are right. In most of his videos , he does bollock the owners and tells them straight that they should be providing their animals with a clean place to sleep - not in the dirt where these flies lay their eggs.

I doubt it… the owners are negligent over there.. the same dogs kept coming back and needing treatment, the vet got fed up with the people and left, idk if someone took over his position 🤷♀️
they didn't, they likely noticed a long while before and made a lie because they knew they would be called negligent owners. in a lot of places, specifically places where animals are seen as food instead of pets, animals just aren't valued and won't receive medical attention until the condition becomes hopeless - most don't even get taken to the vet, but are left to die.

It takes the mango maggots only about 8 days to fully mature to the prepupal stage, and then they leave the body at that point. They're not fully mature yet, but they mature quickly. So the dog's had them for days. Not weeks or months, days. The dog's pain probably didn't manifest until a day or two ago, and like they said, they didn't even notice them until two days before. And now, 2 days later the dog is at the vet. Relax, Rita. Judge yourself for not doing a modicum of research before you commented.

My thought is why these worms were allowed to stay in this dog as long as they wete. Its obvious from crater like holes in the skin that they must have been there for awhile.

@deniselrice ... Ya, I was thinking this as well. This doctor, who is a kick in the pants with his light-hearted banter, said this started less than 2 weeks ago. I agree, that they waited too long, but if those micro ones were several days old, as he suggested and these large ones are 12 days old, they grow DAMNED fast. My guess, is that they saw this patch, that was much smaller a week ago and dog would not let them near it. This was the time they should have called a vet, so this got really bad in just a few more days.

@@NinjaKittyBonks I've read that its practically unnoticeable until the larvae break the skin to get out, which would've happened a couple days before. No idea how good vet service times are in Africa, but I'm guessing this was a relatively high priority case considering the size of the affected area

I think we can all agree that parasites, be it ticks, mango worms or any other kind of parasite, are nasty.
