    I will be replacing the assembly on my 2015 altima. Very similar. Mechanic wanted to charge $300 or more. No thanks. I'll do it myself! Great video!!

      Indeed! I imagine way, way more people would buy their own light assembly secondhand and install it themselves if they realized how fast it can be. Got pulled over 3 times after a drunk driver hit me and messed up mine, and have been enjoying police free drives since. Thanks!@@King_drew

    Mine will not slide out. Im prying it off but it keeps cracking, something in the back is holding it...

    • @RDMotoring
      @RDMotoring  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's difficult to tell what's actually holding it without looking at it myself but it really should just slide straight out, it does take a little bit of force to slide it from the clip but nothing should be cracking. Just make sure you are sliding it straight back and not trying to pry it away from the side of the car.

    The cover on mine is cracked. Is there a way to just replace the plastic cover? Everywhere I look they only sell the full assembly.

    • @RDMotoring
      @RDMotoring  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately you cannot. They are sealed units and you would have to do a lot of extra work to separate them (baking the glue so it comes apart and then resealing the unit with the proper adhesive). I don't even think you can find just the plastic cover unless someone took one apart and was selling it

    Hey man good video, do you know anything about moisture getting into the tail light housing area which cause transmission problems for the Nissan Sentra? The reason I ask is my car just recently has transmission problems and I found quite a few people noticing the connection between moisture and the tail lights and the transmission control module

    • @RDMotoring
      @RDMotoring  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't heard anything about that honestly, it sounds very strange that any transmission control would be affected by taillights

    • @zach1009
      @zach1009 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am having the exact same problems. I also noticed these comments and went to look at my car and there is moisture in the right tail light. Have you been able to diagnose/fix the problem with yours?

    • @zach1009
      @zach1009 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just unplugged my right tail light (the one with moisture in it) and it fixed the problem with decrease acceleration when headlights are on. Also the first big clip to remove the trunk liner has a little plunger/plug that needs to be pulled before you try to pry it off. 2015 Nissan Sentra S

    • @zach1009
      @zach1009 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just unplugged the right brake light (the third bulb spot laterally that says "DO NOT OPEN"). This disabled the brake light for that side, but I still have a blinker. This fixes the problem until I can get a whole new assembly to replace the tail light.

    • @lc9935
      @lc9935 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      At least for 2014 Nissan Versa, this is the exact issue dealership told me. Ciruit on the taillights is connected to the transmission so if there's an issue with the circuit board on the rear tailights, it will cause transmission issues.

    The process for changing the entire unit should be relatively the same for a 2017 Nissan Maxima correct? (8th Gen)

    • @RDMotoring
      @RDMotoring  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Should be fairly similar. Just watch out for how many plastic bits are holding it down. Last thing you want to do is try to force something and have it break

    Taillight does not just SLIDE RIGHT OUT

    • @RDMotoring
      @RDMotoring  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It is locked in slightly with a plastic tab and you just pull the taillight straight back to remove it. The point I was trying to make is that you don't want to pry on it or pull it in any direction other than straight back or else you will break it.

      @RDMotoring  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The two nuts are the only things holding the assembly on, once those are removed you can just pull the whole housing straight off

      The LED bulbs rarely burn out, especially not all at the same time as there are four bulbs in the assembly for brakes and turn signal. Check to insure the wire harness is plugged in all the way, might be good to unplug and then put the plug back in to insure it seats correctly. If that doesn't do it, check the fuse to make sure it isn't burned out. If neither work, you have to replace the entire tail light assembly as you cannot change individual bulbs.

    • @RDMotoring
      @RDMotoring  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it's some the the LED brake lights then you might have to replace the whole unit like I did here. However based off trim and model years I believe some Sentras have different style brake lights. If it's the turn signal or reverse light then you can get away with just replacing the bulb which shouldn't be too expensive.
