Maybe an immune system isn't as important when you're so unlikely to encounter another of your species that you mate by fusing with the first member of the opposite sex you find. Disease is normally the result of large numbers of individuals in close proximity to each other. Even if an Angeler fish encounters a pathogen once, what are the odds it would ever encounter the same type of pathogen again? I'd guess slim to none.

Because, for the immune system to develop an immunity to anything, it first has to encounter the thing, and then it has to survive the thing with enough immune cells left to remember the thing, and pass the information on to other cells.
Think of it as you seeing a new fruit, for example. You have no idea what it is, or if it's edible. If you eat it, get sick, and then recover, you know next time that the fruit is not edible. It's the same with our immune system.
But if you die, or if you don't remember what fruit it was that almost killed you, you have no idea what fruits to avoid in the future.
Also, I don't know what you mean by "spa"

Could also be that when you're roughly the same size as your mates prey, staying well clear of the giant mouth bristling with needle sharp teeth as she swims through the cold Stygian blackness of the deep seas also a preferable strategy too

Can multiple males attach to a single female? If so, how does that work? If not, what stops that from occuring?

@@felixcosty there's a history with Hank and anglerfishes, lol. I'm not actually sure when it began (perhaps someone else knows and can comment) - I'm guessing during one of the project for awesome lives streams they do yearly. He always does "hanklerfish" paintings for perks. You can view them on his Instagram!
