They did the same thing with The Addams Family when they wanted to make a sequel, and possibly Jurassic Park on a cancelled cartoon series. There's a prototype ROM out there which does have all the scenes from the movie, so it was considered at one point.

The same thing happened in the 80s when a small publisher released a blade runner game for home computers that was not licensed on the film Blade Runner, but on it's god damn movie soundtrack by Vangelis because that one was much cheaper to obtain.
You don’t *have to* jump first to shoot downward in Contra 3 - I believe you just hold the R button to lock your legs in place, then use the d-pad to fire in any of the 8 directions without moving (Drunk, if you didn’t know this, pop it in and give it a quick try). Further makes your point though about intuitive controls.
2:08 "In games like Contra, if you want to shoot down you have to jump first" No you don't, you can also hold R and down simultaneously to aim down. Holding R allows you to aim freely while standing still which is great.
Some of that music though... I um tried to make a gallery shooter out of a scripted Doom map where the monsters couldn't shoot in but you could shoot out all so I could reuse some of that music. I even ended up remaking the ending screens for it.
Ocean series of games were awesome (albeit kind of repetitive in their game play) True Lies, Cliffhanger, Demolition Man, T2 and all the rest of the action movies they made a game from in the early to mid 90s haha
I'm interested in playing this version specifically because it's different from the others. I found the Spectrum version to be so difficult in comparison to its contemporaries like Robocop and Batman The Movie.
I played this game last year right through the end and I rather enjoyed it. I liked the challenge of having to reload the shotgun and carefully picking out targets.

buying the nes versions is the second worse decisions of the kid me...the first being buying alien 3 on game boy rather than zelda 2 on nes...i still kick myself from time to time over this....
Yeah, this one was very disappointing. Liked the idea of all these different shooter styles in one game, but the controls are awful and that shotgun stage in particular is impossible and just not fun.
I just discovered this game in my everdrive some days ago. I know it isn't brilliant but somehow I can't find nothing bad about it but the slow control of characters. I guess it's one of those games that once you beat it, you'll never touch it again.
I have a word for platform games like this. Clunky. I never cared for games like this. If the animation looks really stiff, then odds are the rest of the game has about the same level of care put into it. There are exceptions to every rule of course, but in general it's a pretty solid rule to go by.

Question...You do realize the British pronounce the letter "Z" as "zed"? So it's not the "Zedx-Spectrum" it's really just the "ZX-Spectrum". I don't blame you as it took me awhile to actually figure it as well
Having duck on a different button, and dpad dedicated to your aiming isn't that bad of an idea. It's very logical. Of course when every ever has ducking on the down button, it's questionable. Having to jump before you can shoot down is kiiiiiiiinda convoluted if you ask me. Also I promise i'm not an untouchables fan
Why would they even give you a double barrelled shotgun for this game? As I understand it the squad of "untouchables" trying to deal with organised crime IRL were basically using state of the art weapons of the time. One of course was the Thompson submachine gun, but if they were using shotguns they would have at least used pump shotguns, probably like a 7 shell tube magazine- maybe a semi-auto shotgun, or some of the few semi auto sporting rifles of the time(you didn't have many semi auto military issue rifles at the time) or a Browning Automatic Rifle. They used such things against Bonnie and Clyde IRL, and I think it was about the same time frame. Also as said- if it existed in any real amounts these guys would have bought it, or commandeered it. So it would make the game far less annoying- and makes sense given the history of the matter.
That was one of the most intense SNESdrunks I've heard in a while.

I can tolerate time limits as an adult, but as a dumb kid bad at video games they were so frustrating, downright punishing, and not fun at all.

I beat that game back in early 90's when it released. I remember it being hard as fuck; having to dodge drive-by's, hit & runs and noire gangsters.
