Pixtek TV, for some reason, I am unable to reply to your comment, sorry about that! Anyway, the reason I own 3 camera bodies is simple. I use 1 for a 400mm on a monopod, one on my right hip side for a 70-200mm, and the last on my left hip side for a 16-35mm or 24-70mm. Sometimes, I use the 3rd body as a remote camera for things like soccer (setup behind the goal net), basketball (behind the glass), or water polo (behind the goal as well). In sports photography, especially pro sports, you honestly do not have the time to be swapping lenses, because the moment you were wishing to capture will be gone by the time you set up. Explaining it really doesn't do much, you just have to go out and shoot a big event yourself with 1 camera body and will quickly realize how many photo opportunities you miss when you only have 1 camera on you. This happened to me countless times during my first year of shooting pro sports. Hope this helps!
Meg Bre I use the Kata Bumblebee, its fits over the back of my mobility scooter really nicely, carries two bodies, 4 lenses, flash etc with no problem. It also opens in two halves and is accessible without having to take the bag off. It also carries a tripod and can be adapted to take a monopod as well (I usually also have a spotting scope with me). I can also fit my medication and other medical stuff in the laptop pocket.
Seth, thanks for posting. A question I have with a lot of these video's is: How did you finance everything in the bag plus the 400/2.8? I shoot sports for small colleges and sometimes obtain a field pass at UCLA (I rent gear for the UCLA game), but to lay down at least $40-50K is a risky step if your phone 's not going to ring. Thanks.
I made a bunch of subs down at subway when I used to work there :p but seriously, just hard work and helpful support from family and friends is how I financed it all. Its all paid off now, I do not owe anything for any piece of gear I have now. Hope this helps :)
Hello Seth, just a quick question, is there a particular reason you don’t use speedlights or it’s just that you didn’t have it in this bag? I know the video is too old, I thought would ask anyways if you happen to read the comments through a notification alert. Thanks in advance. Cherag
Great video Seth but why the ball head. Surely a tilt head would serve the same purpose that you are using it for. Also, is there a reason you got the Gitzo gm5541 over the gm5561? Thanks.
Hey Seth Sanchez I'm gonna shoot soccer next season and i was wondering if my camera/ lens combination is good enough. its for a fan page of a soccer team. My gear is a Sony A77II and Sony A55, and Sigma 100-300 F/4, Tokina 80-200 F/2.8 and a 24-70 F/2.8, Do i need to buy any other lens or camera? what is your advice?
I have a 600d with the 18-55 mm lens that comes with the body I like video over photo so I got an opteka fish eye (for skate videos) and I have the cannon 50mm 1.8 for quick photos but I want something less cheap feeling for photos, what would you recommend I get next in the £150-300 price range
With college, I haven't really hard an opportunity to be hired by anyone to shoot it. I t would be very difficult to do, unless you knew someone who could get you in or if the college was not as big as USC or UCLA. It really depends on a lot. Where you are from, how big the school is, your skill level, etc. For me, if it was a small college, I would charge probably around $250, depending on the sport though. It ranges. Hope this helps :)
I am desperate for help. I have a Canon Rebel EOS xsi. I was gifted a Canon EF 75-300 mm F4-5.6 without a stabilizer. I need a good lens for sports photography. Mainly action shots of soccer, baseball and lacrosse. Once I loose sunlight all of my pictures are blurry. I can take a few on auto with flash but they are slow and tbh if the umpire catches me taking them I can be thrown out of the game as the flash "disrupts" the pitcher even though the pitcher is my son and it doesn't bother him but rules are rule. I have tried everything in adjusting my ISO, speed, settings etc. nothing works. The lens I have isn't adequate for night action shooting and zoomed shots. I found the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L USM Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon SLR Cameras recommend in an article but really need advice. If you could take the time to answer I would be so grateful!!!!
Tiffiny A. Tiffiny A. The 70-200 2.8 IS will really improve your night sports shots due to fast aperture. I use it for football and the 2.8 is really needed for lack of light at night and spotty lighting at high school and recreational fields.
I agree, I went out and rented the 70-200 2.8 last weekend. I took over 2000 shots with it at 3 different baseball games and a Memorial Day Ceremony. Completely loved this lens. I ordered it on friday. Can't wait until wednesday for it to arrive.
Hello Seth, I was wondering how you got into sports photography, I am a 15 year old photographer and I would love to make a career out of taking pictures. If you could give me any tips that would be great! Thanks!
You title this 'sports photographer what's in my bag' yet you have three wide angle lenses in your first bag. And please may I ask why you have so many 1dxes?
Yep, I love wide angle lenses for sports, especially for marathons and 5k's, love to have variety in my photos, which is why I have 3 cameras. Gotta get different looks in your gallery to make your boss happy :)
OK OK just one quick question. I realize that this is your passion and you have paid for it all and can afford it, as discussed earlier. But just to make it clear, why the fuck do you need THREE 1-D-X's? Are you too lazy to switch lenses while shooting so you just keep a different lens on each? I am very impressed and all but i have never seen such a thing in my entire life.
Update: what's in my camera bag? Nothin'!!! Shame, but this guy has called it a day and sold all his stuff. I sense it was a severe case of 'buy the best stuff and figure it out later', but the results just didn't justify the outlay. Absolutely everything he owned was the best you could get... I'm sure he could have got 90% of the results with a fraction of the investment but there you go - live and learn!
danm ryan you're nasty for no reason other than jealousy. most photographers have no less than 3 cameras. chk out the others, they might not have them all in one bag, but they have many cameras. I'm just getting started and I have pro cameras and lens, and I'm less than a year into field.
But if you had a lets say canon 5dsr you would have a tool much better for landscape photography and even for sports you had better results. And its half of the price.
I’m sure you’re a nice guy and you’re videos are informative. But.....you are way over your head on your gear. It looks like you just purchased top of the line gear in extreme excess. Don’t want to sound insulting, but you don’t have any samples of your work with all this great equipment. It’s a great setup don’t get me wrong but all your video tells me is what you can have if money was no object.
You know you're doing something right when you're traveling with $20,000 in just bodies alone

Seth Sanchez How do you carry so much by yourself? When you suddenly need to shoot with the wide, do you put down the 400 on the ground?

it would be helpful to make a list with links for purchasing (Amazon?) what is in your camera bag so that one can go back to review the products
who puts a bloody mac on the open see-through part right on the top of a bag
You have some great videos, really interesting stuff. I'm a sports photographer based in the UK.

Thx for getting back. Awesome.
Pixel TV didn't watch the full video because he explains the third is a remote camera.

Its always a good idea to keep the camera bodies somewhere in the middle compartments. Just in case if the bag drops.
Question...... When you photograph a game is they only money you make from print sales?
Such a my dream gears at all !! Thank you for sharing
F*ck my life! Three 1dx's.
can you do an updated one with the links of the products?

I recommend a Tamaron 28-75 mm f2.8 lens. It's a great lens. It's about 450 on Amazon, but you can get one for just about 270 used on Amazon.
thanks :)
Who do you shoot for?
Great video as always. How much would you charge for a normal lets say collage football game?
With college, I haven't really hard an opportunity to be hired by anyone to shoot it.
