How to make an EVA foam Space Marine - Part 11 - The Suit Up!

  • The suit up! Apologies for several things:
    Sound - wasn't sure how loud to talk
    Gap in the neck - Not enough padding in the shoulders
    Lack of back pack - need an assistant to prevent damage to the suit to put this on.
    The short arms - Usually this complaint about Space Marine costumes is a result of the wearer using stilts to enhance the height of the suit but not having extended the arms accordingly. In my case, the suit is more or less human height, so the arms are actually the correct length, but appear to be small because of the exceptionally large shoulder bells. These are exactly at the scale of the original files that I used, but in hindsight, smaller shoulders would have reduced the small arms look and increased mobility. Once they were compelted it wasnt really possible to make them smaller due to all the detail pieces that had been attached.

      This is a common complaint when the Marine costume uses stilts... but mine doesn't, so my arms and legs are the same proportion as they should be. What you might be seeing is the shoulder pauldrons being too long (which they probably are) ;)

      Adam Moore Calm down, he was just criticizing it. And the maker even made a comment agreeing. The person that builds it should be happy with it and flaws with the design can make it less appealing to other people. To find flaws with it you sometimes need other people’s opinions and criticism.

      @colboy1fish 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The arms aren't even that short compared to a normal marine. But I do still agree and I noticed you have a lot of neck visible.
      What I would do is pad the shoulders a little more so the armor is heigher up (which in turn lifts the pauldrons) and that would give the arms the space they need. I think that would give the suit that bit of refigment it needs.

    a suit up is not nessessarily to see how the armor works but its more to see the end result of what u build. its like watching a 30 part build series and troughout the whole series viewers are like "oh this is gonna look amazing wen all fited together" then at the end of the show the host is "welp, the suit is done. UNTO the next project now...."
    ppl want to see what u build XD

      *DISCLAIMER: this is a constructive comment, im pointing out obvious points about the overall craft. not to be mean just to comment about it an explain what i think about it. obviously it a pretty awesome craft. im just being constructive* also imma big fanboy of warhammer 40k series..
      also shoulders are too big. i looked ate my mini's shoulder and in comparison. shoulder would've ended a the mid section of your upper arm a little bit above the elbow and the with is suposed to be one time 1/2 your own elbow size. your shoulder pieces was 41/3 of your own shoulders...thus being too big.
      but if i were to rate your armor i would give a 10 for craftmanship, a 10 for material exploite (obviously bringing foamcraft to a new level) but a 5 to reference/lore/exactitude. (didnt know which one to judge it by..)
      due to the fact the shoulder size is inexact. the logo on your shoulder is inexact. out of the 20 legion, your logo resemble most to the white scar legion. but in place of a lighting bolt over a shield, instead its over a ribbon. also Your current color scheme resemble the Ultramarine legion.
      but if you were to follow the rule of coherence and adherence. you shouldv'e picked a color scheme or red and white to fit with the more resemblant symbole of the white scar legion.
      also ultra marines who sport the blue/white color scheme dont have skulls on their armor. only chaos related legions like the emperor's children legion or even the death guard legion. The only thing you got right on that reguard is the imperium stamps and the overall shape of the armor. the bolter gun is GOLD...absolute gold. u perfectly did the bolter pistol.
      in MY personal opinion. the armor looks cool. i dont care what logo u put on as long as it looks cool but the shoulders are way too big tho..
      In the world of cosplay and comicon related stuff. if ppl are to judge your armor or any craft in that matter...9/10 times they will know about the lore around your crafts more than you do and one thing they will be touchy about is..exactitude. 6/10 times if you show off your armor at a costume contest like they do at blizzcon and such. ppl who get first place is ppl with 100% accuracy and at least 70% quality. in your case its 100% quallity but 70% accuracy.

      In cannon the suits are between 8 and 9 feet tall, but they’re made to fit marines who are also that size. For a costume you can either choose to make a taller one, and use stilts, or make one that fits the wearer. If you make a tall one, only the legs are longer and the rest of the suit is the same size, plus the arms end up looking too short.

    • @WellingtonIronman
      @WellingtonIronman  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In hind sight a smaller shoulder might have improved my ability to raise my arms higher, but that would be all. The entire suit is oversized and everything about it restricts mobility, so there is a tradeoff in every piece between aesthetics and mobility.

    Question why did you not just make the shoes and the legs all one piece

    • @WellingtonIronman
      @WellingtonIronman  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A fair question. The ankle joint generally needs two degrees of freedom to be useful, look at your own ankle joint and you’ll see what I mean. The knee can be a simple hinge but to allow you to walk on uneven surfaces, to pose and balance, you need more movement in the ankles. The other reason is that it doesn’t really represent any advantage to have them all together other than having fewer pieces of armour.

    • @shadowthehedgehog809

    • @WellingtonIronman
      @WellingtonIronman  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hahaha. Looks that way huh! Short arms is a common complaint for Marine costumes that use stilts, as the legs then end up long compared to the arms. My suit doesn’t have stilts so the arms are the correct length. What causes the illusion is the oversized shoulder bells. Mine are waaay too long.

      You say arms too small, but this is a human sized suit rather than one on stilts, so the arms are exactly the right length. It’s the suits with built in stilts making the legs longer which appear to have too short arms. The shoulders are big though which perhaps makes the arms look shorter. After this video I did actually make the shoulders slightly shorter :)

    The music combined with rather bad audio makes it sometimes hard to understand.

    I noticed most cosplayers make the pauldrons way to huge it's like your all trying to compensate or look cooler but it ends up working again you.

      I just made em to the same scale as the rest of the files. I think the pep file I used was ripped from the computer game. And you're right, it's definitely all trying to compensate for the fact that the person inside is not a genetically modified 7ft tall 200kg bodybuilder :D

      @@WellingtonIronman I think it's definitely worth scaling down just a little or ya end up having T rex hands but I mean it's not like it don't look great it's definitely fantastic, but if you try to stay to to specifications of a giant body guard then your cosplay suffers a little.

      @@dorittossenpai2268 to be perfectly honest, I'd make them shorter next time. Like removing the bits with the gold/white text

      Is there any way in that you can move better your hands? and your arms..? maybe with a smaller shoulder?
      sorry for my english

    • @WellingtonIronman
      @WellingtonIronman  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +minnerdos hand movement will always be restricted as I'm wearing ice hockey gloves. smaller shoulder Pauldrons would allow more arm movement but the aim of this suit is not really freedom of movement! :)

      Yeah I know, I m thinking about to do for me a Space Marine suit but is my first cosplay. I m very worried about the price, or the difficult, the tools maybe I need... I don t know what to do, I saw guides but they are in english so, the better guide I have are your videos.
      So thanks for all of them!
