  • Will chats with Shawn Thorsson about his Warhammer Space Marine new costumes at Maker Faire 2012 and finds out how you make a normal sized human over eight feet tall. If you think it must get hot walking around in this armor, you'd be right.

he said yes. because that's how mortals standing next to space marines feel. Though it is heresy for fans.
For me it is heresy the proportions of this armor.
helmet too small for the rest of the body. hands too narrow and too short. great emblems. great bolter and backpack. a lot of details. But still wrong proportions. space marines are not 2.5 meters long. sooner terminators.

they don't need to look over their shoulders, they are augmented. From the 40k lexicanum "The helmet is fitted with automatic sensory devices developed on Mars, which allow the wearer to see and hear as though not wearing a helmet,[1] and, since all information is transmitted to a computer in the helmet before being transmitted directly to the wearer's brain via neural link, it enhances sight and hearing while dampening blinding lights and deafening noises."It also mentions the shoulders briefly in the lexicanum and the fact that they essential see through them.

As for the SM's armour save, that's against the sort of weapons an SM faces - Chaos Marines, Orks, Tau, Necrons, Tyranids... they're all light-years ahead of anything the Flood or the Covenant can throw around. A Halo-era assault rifle might take sixty rounds to do in MC, but those sixty shots would barely even scratch the paint of the SM's power armour. The SM's bolter, on the other hand, would likely tear through MC like a training dummy. You might as well try pitting a tank against a longbow.

His helmet may lock on but his firing doesn't.
Also you seem to have completely misread my post:
A spartan's primary defense is ablative and regenerative (akin to FNP) whilst a space marines is absorbant and limited. Too many shots and it goes down, while a spartan (provided he can find time) can recharge back to full after every attack. This is why, in a city fight where a spartan could take advantage of cover (bolter fire can't pierce it even in the fluff. future materials and all that)

It's odd, I don't think I could make armor like that in 3 months, or even a year really, but I can't help feeling that making movable fingers would have been super easy. Like those extended hands where you pull on each wire loop and it pulls the fingers down in segments...super simple and easy. They didn't think of that or have time to make more usable fingers? I fancy that as a sort of important part of something like a huge exo-armor suit.

    Hi. My two cents.
SpesMareens, are superior shock troopers. They land somewhere near an objective, and they march and shoot til victory or death. If they get inside a facility, the only thing that slows them down is narrow doors. Sparts would be out gunned.
Spartans, are spec-ops super soldiers. They are the far more varied, mobile and adaptable force. SM squad vs Spart squad in open country, the SMs would be out manoeuvred, sniped from a mile away and never even see the Sparts.

  • @TheAndytoto

you are damn right bro...SM's are at war before MC's were even think of...

  • @nightshade616
    @nightshade616 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

a spartan would have the advantage. In open fields or CC however space marines can be just as fast and so a spartan would likely lose.
For an in universe example: SMs are Halo CE hunters with no orange bits. A few rockets and they can go down, despite being armed with a rapid fire anti tank weapon. However this is dependant on the spartans agility, in CC or in the open, a spartan is far more likely to die even armed with a rocket launcher, while in a city he's more likely to succeed.

Spess Mehreens are adaptable, too. For example, each Chapter fields a company of Scouts who tend much more towards the subtle than the rank and file SMs.
And let's not forget that SMs also have access to teleportation technology, and orbital troop pods. So while MC is drawing a bead on an unsuspecting Marine with his sniper rifle, a squad of SMs Deep Strike right on top of his position and murder him.
Fact is, SMs have been at this whole "war" business a lot longer than MC has even been alive.

Bolter rounds are incapable of penetrating cover effectively (as purseuant to their inability to ignore cover) a spartan's smaller more agile frame would lend itself well to manipulating cover to the maximum benefit. This is a similar phenom' to what occurs with IG in cover vs space marine bolter fire. Because of the phenominal cover save IG can effectively stave off SM ranged combat despite possessing drastically inferior stats. In addition, because the primary defense mechanism on a spartan

Regarding that post, I read up on the 40K wiki entries for Imperial Guard Storm Troopers and the Carapace Armour itself. Didn't see any mention of that. But if so, that's only one point down.
I wasn't talking about any full S-Marine version of the carapace armour in this case, if they use anything similarly named. Was purely talking about the Stormtroopers in response to SylvanusM.

Actually, I think you need to read up on the geneseeds and the armor itself. The black carapace, for example, actually grows to directly interface with the Space Marine's central Nervous system.
It would be no contest. The 40k Space Marines are post-humans.

I know, that's how I was using the unit - a bit like saying "miles ahead" except with about 5.8 trillion times more emphasis.
And I also remember reading somewhere that standard bolter rounds are in fact explosive - though I'm not sure if that's actually the case. Either way, if it's good against a Carnifex or a Greater Daemon, it's good against a Spartan.

Just some trivia, there are believed to be around 1,000 Space Marine Chapters at any one time, each with 1,000 Marines each. So around a million space marines at any time... Doubt anything could survive that...

Master chief has energy shields though. I think that counts for a lot. What do you think would happen if chief and the space marine had the same gun? I think chief is stronger judging by how high he can jump in his armour so if he can get up close he should have the advantage. The bolter argument is valid though. That thing is a beast.
