  • Kevin Durant was quoted as saying the offense only worked to a certain point in the playoffs before he simply had to take over. But was this true? Steve Kerr also weighed in, and Coach Nick went into the advanced stats and footage to figure out the answer.

I feel the analysis is spot on. KD is a little confused about what he wants. He came to Golden State for the same reason he said be left. So that tells you he is searching for something. And the end of the day, he's just a 30 year old guy looking for the same things as the rest of us. You feel a little miffed by his selfishness and also a little sad for him because if you don't feel like you fit in with Steph, Klay, and the warriors, where are you gonna feel you belong?

1000000000%! First it was OKC not controlling Westbrook and that struggle for "me" ball or who was 'The Man' that KD resented and then went to GS because of how well balanced their offense was, etc, etc. To just turn around and complain about that same offense? He won titles, MVPs, team all sacrificed for him, and none of that was enough. Then he said he did not feel welcome enough, so he went to another team. Not sure if anything could ever make him "happy" when it pertains to basketball.

Well we say winning championships is the most important thing and then when the guy wins one we say it doesn't fucking count because of the team he's on. How could anybody "happy" with how fickle the fans and media are? By the way, I think Kevin Durant is happy. It seemed like after doing Team Ball, KD goes ISO ball 2nd year.
Which is what Nick's stats show.
Then KD gets injured 3rd year.
But blames GSW's system for not doing enough for him?
      What changed between 1st + 2nd year?!
And so he left GSW because he had to reach too deep into his bag of tricks to get it done?
Brooklyn will not play as good at Team Ball as GSW.
So if he wanted Team Ball, KD needed to stay playing it as per 1st year.
If he wanted to play ISO, then why is he saying he has a problem with the GSW's Team Ball system?

Not to mention if the defense is collapse they had someone like Green who can slash and create to find these 3 shooters. They always had a traditional athletic 5 on the dunker spot for easy lobs. Motion offense confused the shiz out of teams too. That’s why rockets last season thought they can closed down warriors with Durant our but the motion offense screw the rockets not to mention curry going off as well.

Once KD stop buying into the offense and began contracting the disease of "Me" from Russell and Kyrie the beautiful game was going to be over. You can see it with his body language and although we all jump on Draymond he was among the first to spot it. I wish KD the best with that two ISO player combo in NY, because he is definitely a killer and even if he is a little sour with the Dub, he is still a Warriors great.

The Spurs were very fortunate to have Duncan, Parker, and Ginobli treating basketball as an art form of passing, cutting and team effort. Warriors did have this (2014-15) but BETTER with KD (2016).
I'm grateful for KD's 3 years with us, but you could tell that he was not pleased with his individual stat lines and the media's constant nagging.

I'm 100% on Durant's side. The Warriors completely messed everything up by not trading Draymond Green at the deadline. As good as he is, on offense you don't need him and Durant. It's like when the Heat had LeBron James and Dwayne Wade in the starting lineup together. Yes, they are good enough to mask the issues, but they aren't operating at the level that they could be. Not by a long shot.
There were a lot of trade destinations that made sense. One of my favorites was the idea of trading Green, Iggy, and Livingston to Denver for Millsap, Porter Jr, and some filler. Denver get that veteran presence and defense that they needed to become a true contender. Warriors get a huge expiring contract that would help them extend their core, a veteran for the playoffs, and a young boy with the potential to be a great stretch four going forward.
Teams are just too scared to rock the boat. They don't realize, they could've kept both Durant and Cousins if they played their cards right. And if that roster is healthy by the time the playoffs come back around, they'd of won it all easily. Now, I don't now if they make it out the west. Almost all the playoff teams from last year in the west improved this offseason.

I respectfully disagree with this. Just because they don’t always run the motion offense in the playoffs doesn’t mean that they don’t fit. It means that the teams that they play have caught on to their system. Which means that the warriors have to rely on their raw talent to get over the hump. To be honest I believe the whole league knows the weakness to the motion offense. It’s just that the warriors raw talent transcends those weaknesses. Also I see nothing wrong with iso ball. Tons of teams do it so does that mean that players like Kemba walker and Tray Young also not fit with their teams. No. It just means that the team sees a miss match, that the system that they run isn’t working, or it’s time for the teams star player to take over.

They were impossible to guard when he was running team ball, setting off-ball screens for Curry/Klay, and moving constantly. The defense never knew who to help out on and someone always got a dunk or open 3. It was beautiful to watch, but I imagine it's not as satisfying as staring your defender in the face and scoring on him. This is why it's so rare for teams to play unselfishly. There's too much pride and greed. But the ones that pull it off like the Spurs and Warriors are absolute dynasties. KD is still amazing but his title chances for his career are gone. You can iso all you want and get great shots as a 7-footer, but it doesn't make a great team any better. It just makes shitty teams good. To win titles you have to strategically ask, "How can we become more efficient and punish their defense?" And the answer will never be, "We need to isolate more."

He's an ideal fit but KD has a personal agenda which became detrimental to the team at some point.

It doesn't matters because KD can fit with every single team.

Who goddamn calculates the percentage of isolation of a team throughout a whole season? Come on how can you do it

Uh... yes. It was only injuries that really prevented them from three-peating. Hell, they were super close to five-peating.

A missed shot and injuries last season. Then in 2016 everything went right for the Cavs and not so well for the Warriors.

Durant will find it impossible to win a ring at Brooklyn, ESPECIALLY if he goes iso crazy.

What’s up with KD? Saying all this nonsense. He may have a point on ISO stuff but stats show how effective he is in the GSW system. I still wish him well in Brooklyn.

Biggest change from 17 to 18 was that Kd got hurt at the end of the regular season in 17, and Steph got hurt at the end of 18. Kd got hurt so the Warriors went to team ball and Kd joined back in, but when Steph got hurt, the warriors went to Iso ball and fit Steph back in

@@kennytheJETT What about Kawhi shooting 66% from 3 while defending Lebron to the point he didn't want to play anymore? I mean any system can work if you have someone to shutdown the opponent best player, not taking anything away from the Spurs of course just stating facts.

He fit because the team’s style made room for him. But the adulation that Steph or Bron receive wasn’t going to be there. It’s what he wants - to be the top dog. That’s why he’s not in LA with Bron.

That first year in Golden State was magical! Man, I even go as far to say that, that team was the greatest team ever assembled. Yes, Better than the 96' Bulls, 01' Lakers, 86' Celtics, 13' Heat, ETC. It was a joy to watch KD gel so comfortably in that system. Too bad to had to end.

    • @travz21
      @travz21 5 ปีที่แล้ว

Yeah they were definitely the best team ever. Too bad KD wanted to feel challenged in ISO matchups rather than get easy buckets and more efficient team offense. Dude is an idiot gifted with genetics. If he was 6'0'' he'd understand how much better team play is.
