Dear Marwa, your mum is beautiful and is right . My village (not in Africa) used the same method of cooking and the food was always better than that cooked on gas. We are moving slowly back to that way.

I think now that they feel they are "big TH-camrs" (they are not!!!)...they don't respect her values and I hate that. They have no respect for her. She raised them well but now they feel she is less than them because they think they are big stars. Actions speak louder than words...they are not humble at all....very sad.

The girl he met in India Priya was smart enough to read Marwa’s mind. As most decent wise girls she remained as a travel partner and a good friend to Marwa but refused to be his girl friend. I am Jamaican living in NYC now, but I remember the days back home, as a child, when my mom used to save the “good” plates for special times, just like your mom, and if we had visitors we had to give up the bed. So that’s not just an African tradition. We did that too. RIP mama. Missing you.

17:00 exactly,, the chimney shouldn't be connected directly to the fire. There should be a hood/covering over the fire (and pot above it), and the outlet pipe connected to the hood
Marwa your mom is beautiful. Try applying a cap at the top of the galvanized pipe outside of the kitchen to slow the air flow. If the firewood in the kitchen burns too quickly it’s probably because the airflow is too strong. Install an adjustable cap to control airflow.
Your mom has a beautiful soul. An interview with her about her experience with growing up in polygamy would be very interesting. She did seem to get very sad though when discussed it briefly with mentioning some of the wives were passing away

Honestly speaking, your Mum is a typical African Mum. My mum here in Nigeria did exactly the same thing when we were growing up. We have a regular dishes for eating including pots. We also have special dishes and pots for special occasions and people. She will always bring out the best during special event and when I asked her then, she too will always say, we will break it and when visitor comes, he or she must be treated specially. Even my wife who is a university graduate of many years ago, has special dishes too. The only difference is that there is no difference between special one and the ones we use regularly. It is the same thing. Show bought them in dozens and when one breaks she replaces it with another one. I think it is a tradition and culture thing. In those days in Nigeria, virtually all parts of Nigeria, when a lady is getting married all the kitchen stuff must be at home or she will receive them as wedding gift. I think in Affica generally, we treat visitors or guests nicely. It is part of our culture in general.
Please your Mum shouldn't feel somehow, it is African thing and it is happening till today everywhere. At least I can speak for my country, Nigeria.

Marwa, I have never laughed this loud. Your mum is just like my mum. Tell Mum she's not alone. Plastic it is even to us. I am planning to build mum a kitchen very soon thooough ni ngumu.
The struggles your mum has gone through, is the same one am facing with my daughters. When my daughter was in high school, I used public means to carry all the requirements, box, buckets, mattress to school. During visitingday, I would just prepare a simple meal of rice and stew with maybe a soda and drinking water. Around us, parents would be having a party. My girl would tell me , mum, what I appreciate is that you have come. Thank you.

It is likely that with the day-to-day hustle and bustle you already know that many times we even forget to call on the phone and that we tend to take many things for granted. A mother is unique.
People do that all over the world. You keep your nice plates, silverware for special occasions, when you have friends coming over; and you use plasticware or cheapware for every day meal.

I am in agreement about the kitchen. The fire pit in the new kitchen needs to be built up at the bottom. The fire is too far away from the pot. I am from what we call "the country" so I grew up with wood fire. The sweetest foods are cooked on wood fire. I love your family vibe. So much love and respect. Most of all, I love the honesty. Marwa, I don't know if you dedicate personal time now and then to read some of your fans comments, but have you ever wander what so many couples have done as to could reach to celebrate all up to 70 years of marriage.
Poligamy is a complete mess to the families, a humiliation to the women's who practically are submmiteed to that situation, but deep in their hearts they're not happy to be sharing a man with other women's, and further more a terrible situation for the kids, because they will be having a lacking of lot's of things in life, simply because their father wants to be between several women's, I could see it clearly poligamy is a dirty, nasty world of lust and pervertion and what is worse, poligamy doesn't come from the heart nor planning of God, because of man disobeying God's command and doing what he feels like is why poligamy exists withing certain groups today and we clearly see the result of it, you can read what happened to Abraham, Jacob's, King David, Salomon, I can tell you a complete disaster up to this present day.
Now if it's written in the Holy Bible is for a warning to us about the good things and the bad things that these men who God called them to serve Him and gave to them His promises, but that they didn't learn to be patient to see the fulfillment of God promises so they run off and take women's and clearly we see the punishment that they received and consecuently their children's too, their wives all suffer and had struggles to could convive with each other, simply because God did not design a women's to live under one man order.
God created one man to one woman, but perversity in man's heart is whan brings more than one woman into their bed, because their hearts is fill with lust.
Having children's with different woman's what the reality shows us is how there is hatred, jealousy, envy and all sort of evil between brothers and sisters, but when all children's comes from one mother and one father, there is always love and unity and a caring attitude one to the other, ultimately they belongs and came from the same source!!!!!!!!! 💚 🙏🏾 🙏🏾 🙏🏾 🙏🏾 🙏🏾

Hahahahaha! My mom also used to take out the nice dishes only when we had visitors. Marwa carbon monoxide is very bad for your health. Make sure the new kitchen is well ventilated for your mom. You need to buy your Mom a real quality stove for the house with a smoke hood and she will cook in her house kitchen. Get something like a Wolf Range with 6 burners that can produce real heat and an oven for baking. That cheap 2 burner cooker needs to go in the trash.

Looks like her she wants an outdoor kitchen, _with_ natural aeration. So all the smoke, steam, aromas etc don't affect the main house

You've said it right you can take a person out of the village but you can't take the village out of them. As for the use of dishes growing up here in Jamaica the crockery was always set aside for visitors, it seems to be an African tradition. ha!ha!
