Canadians would pronounce most of the words the same as an American, as long as they spoke with a standard accent, but we pronounce Pecan like Australians do; Vase is pronounced as Vayz, it rhymes with phase; we say Zed for the letter rather than Zee; and we pronounce Pasta like the English do.
@@hoathanatos6179 Canadians have varied pronunciations for many of these words. It depends on what part of the country you're from or what country of origin your family is from. Quite honestly, the same can be said for the US where there are 6 or 7 very distinct regions that have their own pronunciations.

Hello ! May Allah protect and guide you to his light and happiness in this life and the hereafter, God bless, Ameen. Excuse me for giving a little presentation of Islam, because it is very misunderstood nowadays, especially on those « Antichrist's » times, where media and politics are mixed to distort history and truth. And terrorists (puppets of the Antichrist) who misinterpret verses, out of ignorance and political motivations, and take them out of historical context (just like radical atheists do by the way), don't help either. Thank you very much for your time. Islam is an arabic word that means the Surrender to the One and Only God, our Creator, Protector, Provider, who gives us life and all that we have, we are safe and sound by his will and grace, we are His and to Him we return, and we have to thank him in this trial life by submitting to him by our free will, or later in the Day of judgment when it's too late to save our own skin. Islam was the original Religion descended to earth from heaven with Adam and Eve (peace and blessing be upon them) in the beginning of humanity. and was passed to people with the succession of the 124 000 prophets and 315 messengers of God to all nations and civilizations since, passing by Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Ismaël, Joseph, Moses, Aaron, Joshua, David, Solomon and Jesus (Peace and blessing be upon them) during the history of mankind, the last replaces and completes the previous, until the succession of the last messenger of God fourteen centuries ago, Muhammad (Peace and blessing be upon him) to complete the noble morals of all mankind, to bring humans and jinns out of darkness into light, and to purify people's religion and belief from corruption and polytheism, and return it to purity and true monotheism, like it was in the times of the prophets (Peace and blessing be upon them). Many Religions that we know nowadays, at their beginning were true and under Islam, initiated by one of the prophets of God, but their original teachings, history and scriptures have been corrupted over time with falsification and polytheism, or lost and replaced with false ones. That's why Islam is the only Religion accepted by God nowadays, which consists in bearing witness that there is no god besides Allah (God in Aramaic, the original language of Jesus and the Gospel), and that Muhammad is His servant and messenger, just like Jesus and Moses and others are His servants and messengers. Never a messenger of God said he was God or literally son of God, it was the people after him who changed the words of God and corrupted the Religion. God is unique and absolute, He does not need to have a family and sons or to associate anyone else with His kingdom, He can simply create whatever He wants, everything belongs to Him, and to Him everything will return. Otherwise, each god would have taken away what it has created, and some of them would have gained supremacy over others. Glory be to God, far beyond what they describe. The Knower of the hidden and the manifest. He is exalted, far above what they associate. (91-92 / Translated by ITANI). Allah means the one and only God, the God of all prophets and creatures, the creator of the universe and mankind, and the Master of the Day of judgment, where our destiny, Hell or Paradise, is decided based on our faith and deeds in this trial life, and above all, Allah's mercy. Allah said in Surah Al-Ikhlas : In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful. Say, “He is God, the One. God, the Absolute. He begets not, nor was He begotten. And there is none comparable to Him.” (1-4 / Translated by ITANI). Allah said in Surah An-Nisa : O FOLLOWERS of the Gospel! Do not overstep the bounds [of truth] in your religious beliefs, and do not say of God anything but the truth. The Christ Jesus, son of Mary, was but God's Apostle - [the fulfilment of] His promise which He had conveyed unto Mary - and a soul created by Him. Believe, then, in God and His apostles, and do not say, "[God is] a trinity". Desist [from this assertion] for your own good. God is but One God; utterly remote is He, in His glory, from having a son: unto Him belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is on earth; and none is as worthy of trust as God. Never did the Christ feel too proud to be God's servant, nor do the angels who are near unto Him. And those who feel too proud to serve Him and glory in their arrogance [should know that on Judgment Day] He will gather them all unto Himself: (171-172 / Translated by Muhammad Asad). Allah the Most Merciful said in Surah Ali-Imran : Behold, the only [true] religion in the sight of God is [man's] self-surrender unto Him; and those who were vouchsafed revelation aforetime took, out of mutual jealousy, to divergent views [on this point] only after knowledge [thereof] had come unto them. But as for him who denies the truth of God's messages - behold, God is swift in reckoning! Thus, [O Prophet,] if they argue with thee, say, "I have surrendered my whole being unto God, and [so have] all who follow me!" - and ask those who have been vouchsafed revelation aforetime, as well as all unlettered people, "Have you [too] surrendered yourselves unto Him?" And if they surrender themselves unto Him, they are on the right path; but if they turn away - behold, thy duty is no more than to deliver the message: for God sees all that is in [the hearts of] His creatures. Verily, as for those who deny the truth of God's messages, and slay the prophets against all right, and slay people who enjoin equity - announce unto them a grievous chastisement. Lol, I'm french, and it's absolutly not pronounced/written like that : in french it's "loisir" \lwa.ziʁ\. "Leisure" is english, even if it has french roots.
Why did Mr. American over there not say the phrase tomato tomato (too-may-toe, too-ma-toe), cause that's a big thing here in America, or at least where i live, whenever someone says tomato, someone else usually brings up that phrase
Every time someone tries to argue me about my "American" accent, I find it to be the most pointless conversation on earth to have. That along with driving on the "wrong side," or not using the Metric system. No matter where you live, what you have in your country has been used for centuries at this point and it's pretty permanent. The systems of pronunciation aren't going to change for any country so what one is arguing is that you think for some reason, your style of speech and pronunciation are right, however, the basis of communication is that those around you can understand you. This is why even pointing at something without saying anything has meaning. There is no one in that room that wouldn't have understood shortly what the other was talking about given context clues in full sentences. So as long as those around you can understand you or you can explain and they understand you, your manner of speech is indeed, correct.
The majority of countries in the world drive on the right side of the road. So if anything, the left-siders are wrong. The American accent is closer to the original English of 500 years ago than modern British English. As for the metric system, there are two types of countries: The kind that use the metric system... And the kind that landed men on the moon.
Agreed. We get used to languages, slang, pronunciations, measurements, foods, customs ETC., through persistent repetition over time, learning those rules and training our brains to find certain things normal/familiar. Everyone on this planet has an accent, even if we're so used to hearing our own that everything different sounds "weird" to our ears... but different doesn't mean "wrong." It's fun to hear this range of pronunciations for certain words used all over the world (yet usually written in the same way) because none of them are incorrect, even those outnumbered.
Pronunciation is something I've had to struggle with most of my life, being told a lot that there's something wrong with the way I talk because of my slight speech impediment I was never able to fully correct. Problem was, the way I talked was pretty much unique from most everyone around me because when I was a toddler, I had a hearing impairment. Taught myself to lip read until my mother and doctors realized I couldn't hear others. After I had tubes inserted in my ears that allowed me to hear again, I had to go through speech therapy for a while. I had to see a speech therapist at school, then when I came home, then my mom would have me read out loud to her, and she'd work on correcting me too. I got told a lot that, 'you're not saying it right!" "Don't say it like that, say it the way I say it." And I'd look at the speech therapist, and my mom and ask them, "well, how do I know if you're saying it right." Because my mom sounded different than my speech therapist did. I was born and raised in California. My mom came from Minnesota. When I was in my 20's, people used to ask me a lot, if I was from Texas because of the way I sounded. Often, co-workers would tell me to stop mumbling because they weren't used to the way I sounded either, and didn't want to take the time to learn to listen better and be understanding, therefore it was easier to accuse me of mumbling. But, I wasn't because I still slightly have the speech impediment issues, catch myself every now and then, saying the word father, like fawder. I'm in my 40's now, and when I come across someone who has the audacity to try and correct me, I let them know what a jerk they are being. Don't be rude in trying to correct me, and either get used to how I sound or eff off.
Funfact American English, (specifically New England English and ‘Tri-State’ English) is actually closer to how English was spoken in 1700s. Around the 1850s or so iirc the English nobility essentially invented the posh accent to distinguish themselves from the peasantry and then the peasants started copying them.
Yooooo Vermont is one of the prettiest places I've ever been. Everything is just green and pretty (plus they have no billboards or anything that kills the view). I'm definitely retiring there lol.
Actually I'm going to say that not only is the US big enough to stand up for itself, but also that it has such a huge cultural influence on the vast majority of the English speaking (and even much of the non English speaking) world that it can afford to be taken down a few pegs every once in a while!
@@carlhartwell7978 So you justify being rude and insulting to a nice person because you are jealous and bitter about the fact that they come from a larger country than yours. lol. Grow up.
for an Australian accent the key is to only pronounce the letter r if they are at a start of a sentence and the letter 't' is actually a 'd' for example: water is pronounced wahda and car is pronounced caah
You can't go wrong with RP english (received pronunciation english). if you study and practice that form of english, all english speakers will understand you.
Every time The American guy said he is lonely, I felt that an Indian guy must be there to support him, cause I can relate most words to an American accent!
How fun!!! Thanks for including South Africa--have not seen any videos that talk about how they pronounce English. Cool to have so many countries represented.

It depends on the region these days. In the 1800s the US still retained the notable accents of Irish and Scottish, but this faded by the '40s. You can still hear it very much in places like North Michigan and parts of Maine however.
@@benjaminharrisongray9079 I'm not sure about this because places where huge numbers of Irish immigrants migrated and stayed, like Boston, don't really sound much like Michigan or any Midwestern areas. Then again, cities on the east coast were still being influenced by people in England for a longer time due to both trade and observance of European fashion and trends. Some linguist wrote a book about Anerican accents, and noted that at the time if the Revolutionary War, residents from Savannah, Georgia would have sounded just like residents of New York City.
I just recently read an article about some British politician being criticized for calling her mother "mom" rather than "mum". Apparently mom is still used in certain areas of England.
I think it’s more that there is so much American TV here in Ireland. British tend to have a more elongated often posh sounding pronounciation while in Ireland we often don’t pronounce all the letters. In the area I grew up the local accent changes th to d - so mother is often pronounced like mudder
@@drmasroberts when Trevor Noah said it, as you can imagine he meant it as a joke, so you have a point there! (being a South African, I do still cringe tho' if I hear anyone call them zeebras!). The British also say Zebra, and I remember George Clooney saying he'll never allow his kids to say zebras instead of zeebras (his wife is British) so it's a running joke in their family as well.
Indians just take the basic brit pronunciation, remove the posh factor from the word and add an Indian Magic Masala twist to it. There you have it. The perfect Indian accent!
I love these videos so much more over other pronunciation videos because it feels so organic and you can see that they're all people, just comparing how they each say it, mocking and joking with each other. I love the energy so much, you just don't get it in other videos because they're not all in a room together

"Auntie" is common in some subcultures in the US ! I call my Greek great aunts "Auntie", and quite of few of my black friends refer to their aunts as aunties. Even though the /ant/ pronunciation is more common for "aunt", when I've heard "Auntie", it's usually more like the British pronunciation.
Not really...the name was changed several times from alumium, to aluminium, to aluminum. So it's not so much pronunciation as it is what was the acceptable naming convention as alumium was the first name of it in 1808.
@@chadwickvon8019 actually the british used to sound like americans, but the british adapted their current accent because many people viewed at as sounding more educated and sophisticated
I'm not sure about this but I think a lot of the American accent comes from Irish pronounciation mixed with English. Because there was a huge amount of early Irish settlers. I would guess more than English
@@robertwilson3866 Actually standard English used to be more similar to Irish, or like modern West Country at the point when American English began to diverge. You can actually look up videos of how they've reconstructed Shakespearean English to get a feel for how different it was.
So our teacher assigned this video for our lesson and I really enjoyed it the way our pronounciations could be different from each other. Anyway, thanks a lot!
@RonnyDonny13 Hmm thats interesting from my experience (as an Indian Australian I might add) east asian (Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, etc) Australians sound the most like the "proper" white Australian english if they are born and brought up here.
. I live in rural town of 5000, (north east Victoria). The aussie dude In the video is pretty standard. But holy shit I know some old farmers that will take you straight back to 1950s Australia.
singaporeaans are usually influenced by british english but when we are in a casual conversation we would use a lot of american english but honestly it’s kinda mixed... both british and american... and the end result would be singlish✌️
There are so many types of accents in south africa depending on the region you are from and culture. For example since I am from the East coast Durban and if I had a convo with Chantalle, we would sound like we are from different countries ❤
It's always only southern English accents, but theres a lot of different ones, like I'm from the north and I've never said aunt like 'arnt' I say 'ant' lol. People think all Brits say 'ar' in words like 'class' or 'castle' but in most of the UK we actually say 'a'. It's just that RP is the most widely seen in the media. It's cool how in one country there's never one accent :)
Try teaching phonics abroad. I get the strangest of looks from co workers when I am supposed to pair - tear, fear and year......The latter is meant to come across with an ee sound....but as you say in the north we would say - Yare.......
I think I would panic if I had to do this, 'cuz I've heard multiple pronunciations for so many of these words, despite rarely using them in conversation myself, so I wouldn't know which one I'd actually use. I genuinely don't know how I'd say 'pecan pie.' In my head, it sounds different every time.
As someone who was born in South Africa, moved to Australia when they were 9, watches a lot of American TH-camr and obsesses over British bands, I find these videos very interesting
I always find these really interesting if there’s a Scottish or Welsh person on it, the British guy is only really speaking for England, would be cool to bring that other area in 😊
@@treehugger444 I pronounce vase that way, like v-ah-z. Aunt is the one that sounds very posh to me. In Teesside we tend to say aunty but pronounced ant-ee- to be honest the 't' is barely pronounced, we overuse the glottal stop round here.

Lol! I love this video. I’m American as well and I never really realized how different our accents are than other English speaking countries. Not to mention the US has so many different accents too lol.

And also a New Zealander 🇳🇿 would be nice, it’s similar to Australia but it has some differences too.
@@hoathanatos6179 Canadians have varied pronunciations for many of these words. It depends on what part of the country you're from or what country of origin your family is from.
Allah said in Surah Al-Mu’minun : “God has never begotten a son, nor is there any god besides Him.

You make a good point.
The majority of countries in the world drive on the right side of the road. So if anything, the left-siders are wrong. The American accent is closer to the original English of 500 years ago than modern British English. As for the metric system, there are two types of countries: The kind that use the metric system... And the kind that landed men on the moon.

@@kattykleo8579 NASA uses the metric system since 2007 if I'm not wrong in the year.

Oh man, I love a linguist

Allah said in Surah Al-Mu’minun : “God has never begotten a son, nor is there any god besides Him.
It is they whose works shall come to nought both in this world and in the life to come; and they shall have none to succour them.

It depends on the region these days. In the 1800s the US still retained the notable accents of Irish and Scottish, but this faded by the '40s. You can still hear it very much in places like North Michigan and parts of Maine however.
Maybe thats where america got its pronunciation because of all the irish immigrants.
@@benjaminharrisongray9079
I'm not sure about this because places where huge numbers of Irish immigrants migrated and stayed, like Boston, don't really sound much like Michigan or any Midwestern areas.

Don't u dare bullying the American John , he is so cute 😂😂
I appreciate the American's energy. Also, as a language student, I love how not-on-point their justifications are.

Has no one ever heard that song, "I say 'Tomato' you say 'Toemahto' I say 'Potatoh' you say 'Potahto' Lets call the whole thing off...?" 🎵🎼🎶
Noo...... Which song??
Tomato is derived from a Native American word and both British and American pronunciations are way off lol.
Hello.....
How is your day going so far?
Love accents comparisons! Thank you 🤩 (my fav accent is John's 😍)
I'm Italian, and we don't pronounce pasta shaking our hands tho 🤣🤣
Haha sorry for being so stereotypical!
KoreanBilly's English No problem! That was fun! (and yes, we do use our hands so much while conversing)👏🏻👍🏻😍
I don't think I've ever seen a non-Italian person imitate Italian speech without that classic hand gesture to go with it XD
@@IceMetalPunk true! 😂
Ma perché in Italia siete così ossessionati con l’America e l’Accento americano? Maledette serie tv 😂
Lol! I love this video. I’m American as well and I never really realized how different our accents are than other English speaking countries. Not to mention the US has so many different accents too lol.
