I AM BUILDING THIS TRUCK BECAUSE I WANT TO AND I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE THE EXPERIENCE WITH SOME OTHER LIKE MINDED FOLKS. WE ARE GOING TO TAKE THIS 1985 INTERNATIONAL CARGOSTAR AND TURN IT INTO A DAILY DRIVER, RAT ROD KIND OF WORK TRUCK. I HAVE BEEN TOLD MANY TIMES I CANT BUILD A RAT ROD BECAUSE OF HOW I LIKE THINGS. You are exuding enthusiasm for this build. Cool COE. I hope you take it all the way fixing the cab rust and giving it a fresh coat and interior refresh. Might be great as a simple, short flatbed and maybe the hoist. If you are just doing this for yourself (for now!), then pimp this ride! This has the potential for TONS of content to look forward to.

    I like where you’re going with this cabover. When you mention the 7.3 IDI that sounds nice but when you show us the steer frame with the Cummins and everything you mentioned is what you wanted. That’s it you already figured that out in your head how to do it. Again I love what you do with what you have on hand nothing is wasted.

    J.C. I would love to come up to my old home state and work with you a bit. I am a machinist/welder/mechanic that has been turning, burning and wrenching since 1975. Automotive machine shop is what got me through Nashville Auto Diesel College. I did a few years with Caterpillar then some job shops finally doing my thing restoring high end antique cars. Then 13 years in the Air Force as an aircraft machinist and welder. Separated under disability and did the job shop thing again until I landed a shop supervisor position at a Mohawk carpet plant. There I designed, fabricated, assembled and tuned high productivity carpet looms.
    My boys and I were real terrors of the two acres of woods behind the house.
    There's only a couple of problems. One I'm a beat down old cripple a wreck. Two I can't leave the state as I am on probation. AB1 felony conviction. Hey, I danged near beat a pedophile to death that was going to leave with my granddaughter. Judge said it was impressive but excessive and probably temporary insanity.
    Yep.
    Another chapter in my 66 year old life.
    I would love to build with you and make you parts.
    Soon maybe.

    Terry

      @j.c.smithprojects that sounds great. But I ended up with a staph infection in my leg and almost didn't have a leg to stand on! I can joke now that it's healing but a few weeks back it was no laughing matter. Getting old sucks.
      My problem here is space, we had a series of storms come through and take out 3 of my sheds. So anything I wanted to keep dry had to go in the garage. Not the most ideal situation but that was when the legal trouble started. Lawyers love money, and the whole process took 5 years. So tired, broke with a terminally ill wife I have staggered into this year after her passing. I plan on getting to cleaning up and tossing stuff this fall but I have to wait for cooler weather. The combination of heat, sweat, rust, grinding dust, and dirt is the suspected cause of the infection.
      Other than that I really have nothing to keep me at home and pretty much come and go as I please as long as I stay in South Carolina.
      I watch all of your videos and get a huge amount of enjoyment from them. Let's see if the moon and stars align in the future and we can help each other out.
      I'm looking forward to see how the build on "old postal" goes. You have my curiosity up!

    8:02 this is why on all the trucks on my brother's farm, i've boxed (fiberglass wheel wells) all the rear wheels on all the trucks. Beds and box frames rot away so fast from the salt. Open wheels are not worth the price of admission when this is the result.

    • @j.c.smithprojects
      @j.c.smithprojects  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      im not sure what is going in your life right now but i hope it gets better. i wish you could see how insulting this is, then perhaps you would rethink it. it takes hours upon hours to record, transfer, edit and upload each video. we do this to help others who may be doing the same thing as we are. we dont charge a members fee, no subscription, no donations. its free for you to watch. we do it for you to hopefully enjoy and possibly pick up something you may have not known. so when people complain about something i find so trivial, its is a huge insult to me and what i have invested in a video. especially when you could easily turn your volume down for the 2 minutes there was music in this 28 minute video. im not being a jerk here, just trying to show you the other side. 28 minutes of video and you focused on the 2 minutes that you yourself had control over to make yourself happy. again, i hope whatever is going on gets better.

  • @aserta
    @aserta 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    3:03 YES YES!!! Throw those out! Gods i hate those wheels. They never do what they're supposed to do easiest, even on good units - which is to come apart easy. It's a freaking relic from the 1920's and they can't vanish from the face of this planet any faster!!!
    10:36 funny to me how bad things from the early days of the vehicle world stayed with us, but the good things didn't. Back in the day (and you get this info from all "automobile" magazines and publications) the wood that was placed between the metal frame and the bed or box, was boiled in oil so as to not keep moisture and water in it and rot the frame. I know specifically why they don't do this anymore (aside from the hassle of boiling lumber that long) and it's fire hazard,... but let's face it, it's better than having your frame rot like that.
