- I'm at RSPB Bempton Cliffs in East Yorkshire for Seabird Photography. It's a windy one! But the right wind conditions here are perfect for Birds in Flight Photography - especially those amazing Gannets! In this video I'm using a Canon R6 & Canon EF 500mm F/4 Lens.
My equipment: If you purchase any of these items, that I use and recommend, through the Links Below I receive a small commission which is massively appreciated and it helps me to keep creating new videos.

Brilliant photos
Thanks David.
Top marks for the photos and lugging that lot around!
I was at Bempton around the same time as you. It was particularly windy that day too. But like you I forgot about the wind and biting cold and stuck to the task.
Taking hundreds of in flight shots.
And a few cameos with the Gannets and Razorbills interacting with one another on the cliff edge.
Glad you hung on till the end of the day and were rewarded with that nice golden hour light.
Brilliant video....Looking forward to a visit to Bempton in June....
Really enjoyed watching that video Paul and great pictures 👍
Wow hard to beat Gannets nesting . Love the strong winds holding the birds up . Awesome Paul 👍
The wind was spot on. Cheers.
Just WOW Paul.
That's so kind. I really like creating this style of content.
Absolutely magical what excellent footage and photos credit to your skills👏👏👏
Thanks mate. Really happy with some of the footage here.
Lovely photos and got some great tips
Fantastic image, Great video paul.
That was great Paul, you got some stunning images in some difficult conditions. Love Bempton but the easterly wind wasn’t there when I visited so defo planning to go back and also for the short eared owls. 👍
Brilliant video enjoyed it
Great photos and video thank you. I will be visiting here soon with my Canon so it’s been really helpful.
Amazing video Paul I got exited watching this brilliant picture's
Fantastic gannet shots
Thanks Gary.
I'm going there for my yearly visit in Sunday, can't wait!
Enjoy!
@@PaulMiguelPhotography Thanks Paul, cracking video BTW. Did you see many Puffins this time?
great video as always ive always wanted to go there but its a 5 hour trip from me so 10 hour round trip but nice to watch thanks for sharing
Another great informative video, great tips, thanks 👍
Many thanks Trevor.
Stunning birds displaying fantastic flying skills
They are great to watch.
I really enjoyed visiting Bempton Cliffs last year. Your excellent video brought back some fond memories, some not so fond - i.e. twisting my ankle because I stepped off the path. When I got home (New Zealand), found it was broken! Didn't stop me from hobbling around the cliffs for 3 - 4 hours. . . and got some great shots.
Ouch. That's hardcore!
You certainly got some superb shots there, Paul. Really nice to see all the different wing positions as they hang in the wind, and the way they interact with each other too.
Bempton leaves such an impression on you that I recognised all the locations immediately even though I have only visited twice! What a place. Just need a better camera for birds in flight next time I go!
Awesome!
Beautiful birds, brilliant images. ❤
Bempton such a great place Paul -
Thanks for the video as always - really helpful.
Fantastic photos Paul I enjoyed every one of them.
A lesson in videography, photography and bird knowledge. I keep meaning to go there but keep putting it off for some reason. Anyways, those slow motion shots were quite emotional for me for my own personal reasons, so thank you. Quite superb Paul.
Awesome images, and an awesome video Paul 👏👏
Cracking shots of some of my favourite birds!
Many thanks!
Great images. That area looks like a great spot for bird photography. I need to find someplace like that near me in the Puget Sound Area of Washington State, USA.
Paul finally got here. after many years wanting to go Yes, the birds are great to photograph, but boy the amount of people far too much and this was on a weekday.
Only lasted two hours before the crowds just got too much for me
Wow. Yes it can certainly get busy. Be thankful it wasn't a weekend! Glad you enjoyed it.
Stunning shots, Paul
Thank-you.
Great shots, Bempton is on my bucket list and I learnt a lot from your video. I would have liked to have seen the classic cross bills but the poses you captured were superb.
Well worth a visit. Any time in the breeding season really
That was great, I went for the first time last week, but had slightly different conditions to you. Bright sunshine and hardly a breath of wind. I definitely like the thought of catching the birds hovering. I like the razorbill photo you posted on twitter, was that taken the same day? I really struggled with my flight pictures of those and the guillemots.
It was all on the same day, yes,
Superb video. Your mic is now part of a gannet's nest, by the way.
Haha! Yes, it might be.
I'm using an R6 with a sigma lens. I find the RAW files really clean up nice with Dxo Pure Raw. If you haven't tried it Paul I really recommend you download the trial version. Tran forms the higher iso shoots from this camera.
Thank you. I tend not to worry too much about noise. I sometimes selectively reduce in photoshop. But thank for this, it's appreciated.
Great spot. I hope to visit in July this year for a couple of days. I'm interested as to why you opted for the R6? I'm about to go mirrorless but I'm considering a second hand R5.
Really enjoyed this, great video, i really must get a longer lens.
Thanks Steve. It's not everything, you could shoot here with a 300mm at times.
That's what I'm shooting with.
Thanks for video,Paul. Great images too.
Were you using eye detection?
Used Wide Zone AF. Similar but picks up the body if it can't find eye.
Cool shots!
For the images that are only sky, how do you choose a level horizon? Or do you not change orientation when editing? Just curious.
Hi. Its not something I think about too much - but if I have a wonky horizon, I would fix it in photoshop
Graet vlog Paul, with some gorgeous images. I'll try to remember your comment about taking fewer but more meaningful shots when I'm there next week (there has to be a first time I take fewer shots!). Sadly no forecast easterly winds at the moment, but as we know it can change at the drop of a hat. May be worth trying Flamborough Head whilst I'm in the area?
Cheers Mark. Yes Flamborough can be good - not as much generally.. but it can be good for Guilemot, Razorbill. I think it used to be better there for puffins than Bempton.
Bet you went early or late. It was busy when I went and while everyone was looking for puffins I photographed a bridled guillemot and 2 fulmars 😊. And yes it's bloody windy even if inland is warm and still
I wasn't there early, but I stayed til almost sunset. Bridled guilemot - very interesting. Oh boy do I love the Fulmars!
Hey mate, have to ask how you're finding the R6?, I've got my eye on a used one but I've heard mixed things about the continuous AF.
Fantastic video as well mate, never got to Bempton yet but I've done a few boat trips from Bridlington
Very happy with it. The focus is excellent the majority of the time. Eye focus won't always work though.
Great photos mate, i recently got my hands on the R6mk2 and love it, but I do have a severe hunting experience with the auto focus. Using a sigma 150-600 Contemporary lens and I'll get a second or w where it's sharp and then it will completely blur everything out and it takes a good few seconds to come back. Have you had this issue?
Thanks. I don't get thi with my lenses. But never really tried that sigma lens.
@@PaulMiguelPhotography ah i hope it isnt the sigma itself, would force me to buy a different lens
I was just wondering if you set your ISO or keep it on Auto? The photos are stunning.
Many thanks. It depends. Here it was manual most of the time. For the sunset shots it was more Auto ISO I think.
When was this fiimed, Paul? There has been a SEO & a resident Barn Owl on display by the visitors centre people have also been sharing pics of a Stoat, Peregrine & Kestrel at the Cliffs on Facebook, but I'm not sure where abouts, I'm guessing this was March/April as you didn't get any Puffins in the video?.
About 2 weeks ago now. I think the owls have been around a lot. I didn't see puffins but someone else saw them on the far left.
Hi, is it ok to store the camera with a small (24-120) lens attached to it? Thanks
I think so. I would.
