Finally Driving The NEW Jaguar F-Type! [Is It Better Or Worse?]

- 3 years after I sold my beloved F-Type R, I finally got the chance to check out Jaguar's new and apparently improved version!
From Jaguar:
The new Jaguar
F-TYPE looks more
beautiful than ever
and embodies Jaguar design
DNA in its purest form. The
two-seat sports car offers a
perfect balance of performance
and driver reward with an
even more muscular, assertive design and a cabin defined by
rich, luxurious materials and
beautiful details.
The range of powerful,
responsive engines includes
four-, six- and eight-cylinder
options*, all matched to eight speed
Quickshift transmissions
with full manual control using
either the SportShift gear
selector or the steering
wheel-mounted paddles.
The new 450PS supercharged
V8 has been developed to
offer exploitable and rewarding
performance - its maximum
torque of 580Nm being
generated from just 2,500rpm. It
is offered with a choice of
all-wheel drive and - for purists -
rear-wheel drive. Both versions
can accelerate from 0-60mph in
just 4.4 seconds, and reach a
maximum speed of 177mph.
Taking all of the learning
accrued from the development
of the limited-edition, 200mph
Jaguar XE SV Project 8, the
Quickshift transmissions in
both the new F-TYPE R and
the 450PS V8 models have
been meticulously recalibrated
for a more engaging driving
experience. The new F-TYPE R
specifically offers even faster,
crisper gear changes when the
driver commands shifts manually
via the steering wheel-mounted
paddles or the SportShift gear
s elector. Both upshifts and
downshifts are more immediate
and give an even more
connected and responsive feel.

Like having a talk with your ex girlfriend, just so see how they're doing now.
And then realising she doesn't look like you remembered her.
Hahahaha
xD
We know jags are maybe not the most technically advanced, maybe a little behind the Germans. However in a world of identikit cars, due to safety legislation etc. Jags remain distinctive and you know its a jag and they are British.... I think they remain a cool and proper car choice 👍
@@seenthroughglass likpm
Still like how an E-type looks!
good on you Sam, Jags are great, ignored usually by the TH-camrs!
Im such a Jag fan boy. Hoping to film more in 2021
Are they? I don't think so. This is the 20th (?) Test I've seen
STG is so much more than a youtube channel 😍
Really kind
This is my absolute dream car and I will be able to afford it in 4 to 5 years. It's just painful to watch it on the screen and not being able to touch it. I crave it soo badly
Loving your enthusiasm Sam. I’m a huge Jag fan as well and I think they have knocked it out of the park with the new F-Type.
Still a good looking car
Have to agree with you
That's coz it's basically the same car. I have a 2018 400 Sport...'prefer mine! 😁
Will always be sensational looking. There's no "still" with thr Ftype
it looks a bit more minimalist in design, maybe a bit more aggressive.
I like it
I was waiting for this so long finally 👍
Me too!
Was very lucky to try both V8 models at JLR Fen End and loved every second. You will love the R, a noticeable increase in every aspect, performance, character, smiles. What is clear, is the passion Jag engineers have for the F Type. Proud V6S owner but oh so tempted by the V8.
Still remember the time when the sound of the Jag used to be in your intro. Brutally beautiful.
You always make some of the best reviews. The “new shape” looks so good Sam!
Was patiently waiting for this video🤣🤣only Stag's opinions matters on f-types
This I what I've been waiting for!
Yup!
The front looks like a new Mazda 3, it´s not bad but I still prefer the old one.
Good point! Ha. It’s looks like lots of other cars I think which isn’t bad, just maybe not as good as before
The front of the new Mazda 3 looks really good so it's not a bad thing to copy surprisingly
In grey it reminded me of an Evo X from the front.
No joke, I got an ad for a Mazda 3 at the end of this video. A confirmation??
Content with your old Jag was some of my favourite TH-cam content ever. This new car doesn't have quite the same charm as the old one but your videos still excel!
Great to see a Jag back on the channel Sam. Miss seeing your old red one and the insane exhaust it had.
Great video Sam! I'm glad to hear that the F-Type has improved! It looks great and I'm happy that it still sounds great!
Thanks pal
This channel....I recently joined the STG squad(like 4 months ago) and I was not disappoined at all! A really good car channel to recommend, amazing video quality! Lovely❤️
Great to hear! Welcome on board
Still sounds so great, gotta love Jag! I hope you make a review on the new top of the line R model though 🔥
There's no content like yours, Sam! Massive appreciation for Twiggy getting on that seatbelt sensor and the rear spoiler going up 'n' down as seen through the rear glass! I really hope there's another Jag in your garage sooner or later!;)
I got to say that your production quality is just absurdly good. Love your content. Keep up the good work 😍👌
this is like the good old days you with the f type going on a trip with paul in his gallardo bicalore and shmee in his 675lt coupe those were the lovely days😍😍😍😍😍😍
OMG OMG OMG OMG The new F-Type!!!!!! As a fellow Jag fanboy I am super excited
Whoop whoop
Have personally placed the SVR as a goal of mine within the next three years. Love the pre-facelift look, especially the SVR, it’s the only car I can think of with such a brutish and aggressive presence at the price point it’s in!
This was 2 years ago. Closer to your goal? I’m working towards f type r myself
I got an SVR last October. I don’t regret it a bit! Best car I ever owned!!
Time’s up ;-o
Fantastic review. Followed you for a while but the production value and professionalism of this one is top-notch. I have a 2015 V6 S which I wouldn't change for the world.
Ha ha. I had a 2016 V6 and went up to the V8 SVR. Man alive, it is in another league. Lucky for driving in NZ!!!
It’s a good looking car and way better designed than the latest Astons...
I just watched Richard Hammonds video, now I’m on to yours. That goes to show how far you have come my friend...great content as always. 😎
Good afternoon Sam! Been looking forward to this video! Keep up the great content!

Thanks buddy!
@@seenthroughglass No problem!
New F-type is nice, but would love to see a Project 7 in the garage at some point. So much heritage!
Would LOVe a project 7. Let’s see what happens
Keep driving tastefully Sam, your original F-type videos are what got me on your channel. Vintage steering wheel with racing green chord bracelet? Nice.
Thanks! Yes, much better. The price is so good too. I'll get it used and get the P450 in the $60k range. Love it.
I’ve never been in an f-type so no comparison on how mic’s pick sound up. My dad and I saw a v8 when we were driving back to his house and he was like “I want that car - it’s stunning!” He couldn’t believe the noise was coming from the same car!
Yes, it looks better. Spec it right and you’ll be in the perfect car. The E type is mind lovingly fantastic, but I’m an average driver living in the 20’s.
Thank you Sam for reviewing jaguars. Best looking cars. Driver's delight. Great video as always
Just received my 550 V8 R AWD . . Awesome car
Always have loved the look. It’s a shame people focus on the mad depreciation that’s seems to accompany them. Also this guy puts out such good content and still does strictly come dancing contest - amazing 😁
If I am ever able to own a sports coupe, this would be the one. I thoroughly enjoy my 3L V6 supercharged F Pace now, even that is amazing to drive and put a smile on my face. Thanks for the this fun video!
Hey Sam. I went and bought a cheap second hand v6 FTYPE because I obsessed and binge watched all your FTYPE content. Would love to see as much FTYPE content as you can physically make. Buy another one!!!
Congrats on the purchase! Would love another one at some point
Brilliant review ❤ great car, I might buy one 😊
It doesn't look as good as the old generation imo.
Agreed. Same with Aston Martin
Yeah I don't like the front
@@jameslifts2196 the lights ruin it
@@richboy900 Spot on.
Mazda...
STG Sunday viewing is just what we all needed. Cheers Sam
The 450 4x4 was so planted on the gymkhana track at Fen End even as an inexperienced driver in that car I had loads of fun.
The 2014-15 RWD V8s are spiking in value.
About £35k
@@aljack1979
$60K here, more tgan some 2018 Rs.
The location is just fascinating 🤯
Great job, Sam. The still intro shots where beautiful, amazing choice of set. Thank you.
If your channel didn't exist, I don't know if I'd survive Covid. How you don't have your own 1 hour Car TV show is beyond me...? You could literally be the next Jeremy Clarkson as entertaining as you are. Don't let it go to your head lol..not that you ever would my friend! Props from Maryland state side.
Interesting, Canada still gets a V6, yes I am on the configurator while watching this :-)
I live on the west coast just bought the F-type R dynamic traded in my Aston Martin DB 9 (2009) I’m extremely pleased, got the British racing green, beautiful black leather interior. I have the 575 hp and it’s a beast. I highly recommend it
Regards
@@martyincanuckistan3635 wow I like your style! love the British racing green.
@@ArneuTube I absolutely love this color and what’s nice I haven’t seen another one so it’s nice to be unique
Regards
That F type looks so good , and Sam you need one in your life . The content would be un real
The front is a vast improvement, properly sleek. A classic example of Jaguar taking seven years to get their styling right.
Ditto with interiors, they made a total balls up of the XE interior when it was introduced and then scratched their heads when it didn't sell.
They really shat their trousers with this redesign. It’s absolutely horrendous what they did to this car.
I am a big fan of Jaguar. After this video I made a special trip to my local dealer to check out the new F Type - In the Metal. The changes are subtle and really a matter of taste. I still prefer the overall look (especially the front) of my 2016 model. I hope that Jaguar still and will still continue to create beautiful, rather than "striking" cars. Wait until we get the CX75 (JLR if you're listening). Now that will blow everyone out the water !! But great Video and positive comments.
I think if this would be my only car, I'd have the new one. Still sounds really good, looks good (i mean, imagine it in a dark green metallic with espresso brown seats) and maybe a bit more civilized and usable on a daily basis.
I have a 3 year old F Type S and think it looks better than the new version.
Sam I agree your old SVR F Type was fantastic and a lovely spec! Can you get one again? "Good and Engaging" is a compelling summary Sam!
I think the only real problem with these cars is the quality of the interior. When the F-type first came out, one would wonder how Jaguar was managing to sell a ~500hp V8, with those looks and design lines, the 8 speed ZF, a limited slip diff, and such a playful chassis for less than the price of a base 911. And when you sit in one, you realise.
It's not that it feels objectively bad, but it does feel cheap when you consider that you are paying £70-80k for it. Rattles in the interior, cheap plastics everywhere, lower qualities of leather than in its rivals. Maybe that doesn't matter to many, but if you sit in an F-type, and then sit in an AMG GT for example, the Jag feels unbelievably cheap.
I thought I might of missed this episode but no here it is. Lovely car thank you Sam 👍
Great video Sam, I feel old! Can't believe it was 3 years ago you had the Type R
I know I should have focused on the F-Type but your dog is so cuteeeee~
I think they did an amazing job with the car. The rear didn't really need an improvement, i always liked it. The front however was a little tame, not that exciting. But they did a brilliant job with the front redesign, in my opinion. Overall, love it!
Have always loved the F TYPE
Congrats on 500k!!!
It's like they started redesigning the car from the front, and then just stopped at the back.
Canada still gets the V6, but you're forced to buy AWD.
I got the 2021 F Type P300 RWD in November and love the handling.
Its about time there as a British car brand back on the channel seems as tho the big cat hasn't lost any of its growl and raw
Front is just way sexier, alot becoz i didnt really like the old lights. New looks abit Aston Martin:ish to me, maby bit Vantage:ey? not sure. Mind you im no huge Aston Martin fan, nor any hater. But if id pick i codent helt pipcking a Maserati maby a grand touring simply because the sound. Or simply a Jaguar F-Type V8 because the sound. Which in my op would be the most masculine car sound iv ever heard. But yeah each to his/her own! 😄 Top video as always thanks! 👍
I own the OG rwd R tuned to 640 bhp with the traction control wound back it's one of the few modern cars you can genuinely describe as scary.
I also am in a group with a guy that owns your old car.
It's not ugly in any way. But it doesn't make me say wow, from the front. Looks like a GT car. The old looks like an exotic car and sounds much better.
lol love the queue of cars driving past all looking at the camera, “is that one of thoooose yoootube influencer types?” 😜
Great video. Content, length and passion for the car
Cats, tune, and pulley in 2 days! I can't wait. Going from 495hp to 640hp in a rwd v8s will be insane. Will soon get quicksilver exhaust too😉
I put a quicksilver on mine and loved it !
Front looks like the new Mazda 3, but looks great too
Great to see Twiggy is settling into the sidekick role.
Have you considered getting a little harness and a dog seatbelt tether? Will stop the dinging and also helps incase you have an accident.
I do protest. I want my burble tune pops and bangs back.
A British youtuber needs a Jaaag in the garage, right..?
I think so ;)
@@seenthroughglass ooh
When commenting on changes to a car between the generations, especially the exterior appearance, could you not have a couple of still shots to denonstrate what you mean? Anyone else think this would help??
Saw one of these the other day! it was 3 days old and had a headlight out!!! lovely looking car though 😍
Another fantastic reviews and that Jag looks so cool
Good to see you enjoyed it!
Sam sells the Porsche and buys the Jaguar F-Type instead. It is nicer and sounds better.
The 996 was about 30k, you can get a 2016 V6 for that, I'd have the Jag.
Oooh, I just looked at the configurator, you can get this in British Racing Green!!! It's a sign Sam, you need one!
I'm still not convinced that I should sell my 2010 Vantage and buy an F-Type...... Nice vid.
Lovely Jubbly, best looking Jaguar Coupe to date.
BRG with Silver Wheels and Tan Interior😍
Gotta love Twiggy's face! You can see she is loving going out for rides with you!!!
Still not sold on that updated front end... definitely prefer the previous design but great video as always Sam🙌
Especially in the grey it just doesn’t look that special from the front. The older F type just looks better from the exterior iMO. Great video though Sam and thanks.
It looks like Ferrari Roma. Like the old one, kinda ensembles the name itself, Jaguar eyes.
The plate. Nice.
Will the more powerful version be called as the svr project 9 ?
Ha, could be !!
@@seenthroughglass 😁👌
An STG video can never be long enough!
Great work Sam, although I may say that I'm not such a big fan of the Jaaaaag
Cheers pal
I wish the bonnet front shut line was at the top of the grill rather than so far up. I understand why they have to do it but it ruins the front end.
They did the same when the went from the V8 M3/4 to the current outgoing one. Annoying.
Beautiful, love it!
Great car for the money. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching
It's just unfortunately the headlights which I don't like; the shape of the old ones tied in a lot better with the lines of the car. I get they're trying to make the car look new by doing the updates, but I think a better approach for them would've been to work with the previous style lights and update that, but keeping the overall essence of it
I think this may be the coolest British car right now. The v8 version off course. A Jaguar!
The sound is glorious!
I prefer the old model... because it looks, feels and sounds better.
The s use to be a V8 too in convertible form and R was the first hardtop. I loved my f type still miss it.
I used to have the Ian Callum designed car and i think that will do down in history as one of the best looking cars EVER!! I must admit the grill without the strut across the front looks better but everything else has been ruined to my eye. Think they’ve tried to follow the vantage look and i don’t think its worked
I prefer old one, this one reminds me on VW Arteon front....Very nice video btw.
Sam... great to see you in Monterey last year. If you make it back to the States and want to have a go in a 550hp Jag... feel free to take a spin in my XKR-S GT. I know you drove the red one there a while back in traffic... try this one in the hills of TN just south of Nashville.
