I grew up watching Irene on Fame! I danced and sang to this song many times: FAME I'm gonna live forever I'm gonna learn how to fly (High) I feel it coming together People will see me and cry I'm gonna make it to heaven Light up the sky like a flame (Fame) I'm gonna live forever Baby, remember my name (Remember, remember, remember, remember) I know you’re singing right along IRENE.. rest now♥️
I am very sad to learn that the wonderful Irene Cara has passed away. I was listening to "What a Feelin'", and looked at the comment section and saw the love from fans. It should have been bigger news, but Irene never got the level of recognition she truly deserved. This is one of the best things the Oscars ever put on, and Irene Cara was perfect for it. She will always be a winner in my eyes ❤
This was the most beautiful and touching moment at that award ceremony...I remember it well. The most beautiful voice in all of Hollywood that night. It made me cry. :) Where can I find the lyrics? I want to share it with all my friends.
Thank you for posting this. Whenever my favorite songs or films, etc. go unnoticed, I think of Ms. Cara singing this song back in '85. Great performance and montage.
I remember watching this during the '85 Oscars. True -- none of the films montaged won the Oscar for Best Picture. BUT each & EVERY flick here went on to enjoy a far richer reward -- cinematic immortality. All of these pictures are undisputed classics. BTW -- this compilation introduced me to CHINATOWN -- my favorite film of all time. Here's not to losers -- but to timelessness. Cheers!

1984 - Amadeus; 82 - Gandhi; 81 - Chariots of Fire; 80 - Ordinary People; 79 - Kramer vs. Kramer; 77 - Annie Hall; 76 - Rocky, 75 - One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest; 74 - Godfather Part 2; 72 - Godfather; 70 - Patton (beat Mash) then things get fuzzy on years for the 50s and 60s, both in which year the movie is from and which beat it that year, 1950 - All About Eve (beat Sunset Blvd) 49 - All The King's Men, 46 - The Best Year's Of Our Lives. 40 - Rebecca. 39 - Gone With the Wind, 32(?) - Grand Hotel, then they circle back to Citizen Kane, which lost to How Green Was My Valley There was a point as a teen where I memorized the order of winners of the 20th century, so I am not a good representative, haha! But I would suspect you'll recognize a number of the movies listed above. I probably agree with half of them being the better choice; but I can also sympathize with the extreme difficulty of choosing between Rocky and Network. There are a lot of instances where you will see a movie lost and think "what possibly could have beaten that!?" and you go look and it lost to some other beloved classic
It seems the best films in history, or most of them, are doomed to be successful, remembered by the audience, celebrated by the critics, and losers at the Oscars……which makes me wonder……why are we giving to the Oscars such a big importance? Anyway, they still have time to redeem themselves and create some sort of retrospective award…..we can’t ignore this issue…..otherwise we are complicit of this crime against art……by the way, my biggest condolences and respect for the great Irene Cara…..R.I.P.

All classics. I wonder if we would remember some of the movies that actually won.

Can you post the performance of you performing You were made for me on Solid Gold in 1984?
She lived 3 miles from me when she died. I wish I could have met her 😢
Them vocals tho
Miss her voice.
❤❤❤
That time when The Oscars admitted their own irrelevance.

We love you, Irene... RIP
Here's To The Losers.
Could someone extract her voice and insert it into a mixed new version using AI?

Some of the greatest movies ever made never won an Oscar.
Most (if not all) of the movies shown in the list won an Oscar in some category, just not Best Picture.
