    I keep on forgetting how few subscribers you have, because the quality and effort that goes into these videos is on par or better than much larger channels. C'mon people, pump those numbers up lol.

      Yer there would be a market there. We would loose out on TH-cam. But the man needs to be seen by a wider audience.

    I remember as a kid i had a Dinky Shadow 2 toy from the Show UFO, which had a flip over roof that presented a spring loaded missile launcher, thinking the FV4010 might have been where they got their inspiration from

    I've been digging into the FV4010 and appreciate the work you've put in to this. The wooden models were the goal for my next visit. There was room for the two loaders at the front of the fighting compartment to keep them safe from the turning mechanism. Thank You for your efforts I'm looking forward to the rest.

    I worked at GAF (Government Aircraft Factories) in the late 70s til the late 80s, so was aware of Malkara, but this video shows that I was not aware of the full story. Looking forward to the next video.

    i had a chance to do a commission on several of th vehicles in this line back when I first started doing commission 3d models. the number of possible systems and some of th mechanical details were ...impressive maybe not practical but ambitious, and impressive. at times I was stuck mid process... trying to figure out how the bits fitted together.

    I have to say how very much I enjoy this channel. It is one of a couple of channels I follow where, like this one, they cover the sort of thing which never quite made it to the front line. In some cases you can see why, the Italian Caproni Ca.60 which looks like something flown by Dastardly and Muttley while trying to stop that Yankee Doodle Pigeon springs to mind. But others I end up thinking I really would like to have seen that one in production, such as one of those turretless tanks we sometimes get with this channel.
    Anyway, keep up the great work.

    I love the concept of a heavy missile vehicle that sits behind a ridge and peppers the enemy as they advance. Obviously with drones, vastly improved artillery and other modern weapons such a concept is a bit redundant.

    • @pluemas
      @pluemas 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      [Swingfire has entered the chat]
      That's pretty much what swingfire was designed to do haha, it's why the firing mechanism was detachable and could fire separate from the vehicle which could be dug in behind a ridge somewhere.
      Brilliant concept for its time, arguably still very capable and viable today. Although things like stugna are probably more viable money to capability wise.

    • @admiraltiberius1989
      @admiraltiberius1989 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@pluemas very good point, I do like the Swingfire system alot. Though I think hiding behind ridges and the like is no longer a viable way to survive.

    I,ve read somewhere that the prototype Merkava was a Cent chassis reversed,with the drivers position next to the engine.Its a shame the same wasn't done with this vehicle,or fitted with the 120 mm available at the time,in a casement

    • @armouredarchives8867
      @armouredarchives8867  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      merk was, and this is alsoa reversed cent, but the gun was not needed, they didnt think the 120 would be enough at the time, and/or have the range that the missile did

    I'd like to add a little more to the story: one of the trailers remained in Woomera, and was still parked in town until very recently. The sad thing it was scrapped before it's value and rarity were realised...like a lot of artifacts here

      @@armouredarchives8867 have 9 photos I took of the prototype as it was left in town. Many of the older residents remember it a an item in the school playground to climb on! I can also sent locations on google maps as to where it last was, and the locations in the videos where it was tested. Just need your contact details. Also in the background of one particular shot is a Grant tank used as an armoured observation post...I can give you the details of where that now resides.

    I do very much enjoy your superb channel and it's content but now and again I feel you make some assertions that don't stand up to historical scrutiny. I do not think the USSR was poised to invade Western Germany just after the end of WWII. If you make the claim can you show me a source? Anyhow, great channel!

    • @cryohellinc
      @cryohellinc 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think it's the other way around - you are supposed to do your historical research before writing an argument like that. What were the soviets amassing forces for at the nato border in East Germany? A picnic?
      Unbelievable ignorance.

  • @alm5992
    @alm5992 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wait... if there are only 2 crewmen, loading and firing constantly would present a challenge. Hopefully the gunner/ loader has good hand-eye-INcoordination to lead the missile through the sight, while also picking up and slotting fins on the next!

    • @armouredarchives8867
      @armouredarchives8867  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      nono 4 crew, comander and gunner/driver. and the 2 loaders/fixers in the back - they fix up the missile, and the gunner under the cupola steers it to the target
