Probably the main reason your flight was full is that many major airlines have stopped flying to China. China Southern isn't a good airline, it's just one of the few remaining options.
I took a return flight -- Hong Kong to London with China Eastern via Shanghai, recently . Possibly the best price at the moment. However, the food was not as good as your meal on China Southern . I have heard that Shenzhen Airlines also provides decent food .Unlike you , I tried the beer - Tsingtao . I am usually a fan but it must have been stored facing direct sunlight or something . I could not finish it . The Chinese Airlines are certainly challenging their Gulf competitors in terms of pricing .
Perhaps you could spell the name of the city correctly? CZ still has a large fleet and network, but because of its cost-cutting strategy in recent years, it doesn't have the best reputation for service quality. The cabin temperature could be an issue. I'm not sure if it's a technical problem or a cultural one, but I've also heard Chinese passengers complain that the air conditioning on European airlines is too cold on long-haul flights. Have you tried contacting cabin crews about this? I'd rather have a cheaper, shorter flight with decent seats than focus on food and entertainment when flying economy class. Also, I've eaten overly salty or sweet food on many other airlines like BA LH or QR either, so I always keep my expectations low if I want to pay less.
Well… I just got of a 9 hour flight on Discover Airlines and it was the complete opposite. It was freezing cold in the entire aircraft. Would you say I‘ll have enough legroom on China Southern? (I’m 6“1)

That's a very good point!

Shame because it's a great beer. I actually took 2 cans off board from this flight and they are in the fridge waiting to be drunk!

edited the name!
Thanks for this review. Was considering flying this airline but after several bad reviews I have decided against it.
I think you're making the right call...

@@FlyAround I think I’d rather be cold with a blanket than too hot with no AC! 6”1 - no chance, it will be very cramped!
