Lol, I'm pretty sure Santana auditioned to be the understudy but let me get in deeper. Let's move away from the show point of view and more to Santana's mind. At this point she is 19. She moved to New York because she felt lost and confused starting in Season 3 to this point. She sees her friend getting this opportunity and she auditions to be an UNDERSTUDY not the LEAD and UNDERSTUDY. Yes at the end she confessed she didn't want it but like Santana was a bully I can admit but she was not going to go extreme lengths to take away the role from Rachel. She knew it was Rachel's dream and that's why she stepped down and let Rachel have peace of mind before opening night. If you don't see the friendship in that then idk what Glee you are watching.
Well it was really upsetting that Rachel worked her butt off all her life for the role while Santana magically got the understudy that easily. Like, seriously?
Really. Rachel gets everything handed to her. Don't get me wrong I am not a fan of Santana. She has talent but her bully and bitchy ways overshadow this. It was only an understudy role and Rachel was cast as lead. Rachel's attitude is terrible.
Keshia Peters I agree that in the first 2 and half of the third season she does get everything handed to her, but after she choked for her NYADA audition, I think she realised (after the moping) she had to work harder, in season 4 she had to earn all of her praise from Carmen and even Cassandra and in season 5 she still had to work for her Funny Girl role. Season 6 after her floppy TV Show, she realised that talent is useless if you don't hone it.
Daniel Blair I kinda agree about season 6. I am more of a Mercedes and Tina fan but watching Rachel in season 6 the writers did tone her character down. I do think the whole tv thing humbled her. I just don’t understand why after season 1 she was written to quit things. Season 1 Rachel would’ve never choked her audition nor quit the Fanny girl role. Rachel was the main character but I thought the writing tore her down despite telling us she was the best.
Keshia Peters I agree wholeheartedly, Rachel would never give up Funny Girl, that was her lifelong dream, and she also wouldn't of quit NYADA either, she would have found a way to do both, the writer fucked up her character from season 2 - 5 and season 6 they were trying to rectify that
Daniel Blair Yes. That is like having Mercedes giving up after she struggled to have her music made after that gross producer in LA tried to make her change herself. Inconsistent and makes no sense. Despite so many flaws I am glad Mike and Mercedes gotten to have careers even if they were left single. Mercedes didn’t give up and I feel like Rachel is a type A overachiever. She would’ve did both and I think after Finn’s death she probably would have to the point of distraction. I liked St Berry but it was done crazily.
I am shocked with Rachel's atittude, was not cool what she did with Santana, i know she was following her dreams, bit she screw up with Santana trying to find hers, i almost cryed with Santana.
I get what Rachel did. She may have been in the wrong for how she treated Santana, but in Rachels defense, Santana should have told her before hand. Santana knew this was rachels dream role, and to even perform the song Rachel has spend her life perfecting when she could have chosen a different song, i think thats why i cant sympathise with Santana. I personally I prefer Rachels version. It hits way harder than Santana's version.
I suspect the writers gave an indication to Naya and another to Lea. Like they must have told her she and Rachel would have to hug goodbye but Rachel got past her and ripped the picture. That stare full of contempt wasn´t Rachel´s but Lea.
I honestly think Rachel was being petty and dramatic, I think Santana should’ve asked her but at least it wasn’t a horrible person that couldn’t sing to waive their life. And Santana was always Rachel’s real friend.
I'm tired of reading comments saying Rachel is a bitch because she really wasn't this episode. Santana was, deal with it. This was Rachel's dream, she's been talking about this since day 1 and when she finally got it, her 'friend' went behind her back to sign up for the understudy role. If Santana had spoken to Rachel and told her beforehand that she wants to audition for the role, it probably wouldn't be a problem but it's the fact she went behind her back to to it!
Ayishat Bako exactly Santana is usually my favorite character but the fact that she went behind Rachel's back to be the understudy says something. u have a point. Rachel has wanted it since the 1st day and Santana trying to mess that up just brought out the bitch in her
Let's be real. This Rachel would never have just let Santana audition because Rachel is selfish like that. Obviously she would've made it all about herself and make a huge deal about it. Santana knew this was a once in the lifetime opportunity and knew what Rachel would've done. She didn't try just to spite Rachel but because she wanted to make something out of herself.
I honestly think Santana was being selfish. This was Rachel's dream, Broadway was never Santana's dream. And Rachel offered some shows to Santana but Santana wanted ALL of them. Rachel was willing to sacrifice some of her dream to Santana, but Santana was just being selfish the whole time.
Shamila Mahmood Santana was simply an understudy. She didn't audition for the actual role. Rachel could have her dream and Santana could be successful as well. Rachel was just angry because she didn't want Santana to be in the same lane as her. She has always been selfish and whenever she started to reap the crop of the selfish seeds she had sown, there were her friends to pick her up. She needed to lose badly then understand that there is room for everyone and that talent does not entitle you to success.
Carl Briggs Broadway doesn't fit Santana. She knows that this was Rachels dream since ever. And she doesn't even talk to Rachel that she's gonna audition. As a real friend she could have talk to her.
Unicorn Sternchen She didn't talk to her about it because she knew Rachel would react the same way regardless. Rachel simply should have been happy for Santana. Santana getting the understudy role does not take anything away from Rachel.
Shamila Mahmood She didn't offer the shows until they were deep into their feud. She reacted ridiculously here. Santana wants to succeed to and she should be allowed to. Funny Girl isn't off limits just because of Rachel. Anyways, it's not like Santana auditioned for the actual role (I could understand being upset then). She was the understudy! She was looking for work and she had an opportunity. Santana was in wrong later when she was being stubborn like "I want all the shows" (which she did say later on). This feud was possibly the dumbest and most useless thing the writers did. I'm on neither of their sides and I don't like either of them anyways so don't think my comment is biased. This is just how I personally see it.
Let's not pretend this isn't an analogy that Lea wanted Naya out of Glee and Santana's storyline was over. No NY and no Brittana. You can see true meaness in Lea's eyes.
This scene should have focused on just the actual Glee kids, not the stupid Santana and Berry fued. This wasn't about Berry "breakaway and spreading her wings, learning how to fly" or anything else from the lyrics. She's running away and moving out cause of a stupid, childish, and immature fight.
I know that Rachel was being a little unreasonable but I think that shes in the anger stage of grief and that once she lost Finn she started to push people away and become a little annoying. The whole understudy thing could've been a way out of the friendship and she took it as a way to distance herself from them. Season 5 was sort of when Rachel lost who she really was and when she quit NYADA and Funny Girl it was like yeah she achieved her dreams but the one person who she truly loved (at the moment ) couldnt celebrate it with her. Season 5 was Rachel losing herself and season 6 though a little strange was Rachel finding herself again
I really hated this. Plus, why did Santana get up? Was she expecting a hug from Rachel too? Also she looked so hurt here, not just Rachel. And even tho Santana was mean at first, she did a lot for Rachel, she put Rachel's picture in her locker, she took her to the hospital, she kept finding out what Brody really was so Rachel couldn't get more hurt, she told Finn about it and finally made Rachel realize the truth. And most important. She got her a job as a waitress. SHE was the one that got Rachel out of bed when she was starting to give up her opening night. What did Rachel do for Santana? Nothing.
since all comments are about Rachel I'm just gonna say Tina's voice is A++ in this song
She really did do her best here. Artie and Blaine are always good
Thank you! Agree!
Gorgeous cover. Tina and Artie did well.

I loved it
Well it was really upsetting that Rachel worked her butt off all her life for the role while Santana magically got the understudy that easily.
Rachel better sit down 😂😂 leave Santana alone she got a army behind ha 😂💯
The set
Tina fits so amazing to this song
Blaine's trousers is super slim this time 🤣 I remember how Darren said in a interview how hard the trousers were
I am shocked with Rachel's atittude, was not cool what she did with Santana, i know she was following her dreams, bit she screw up with Santana trying to find hers, i almost cryed with Santana.
1:31 Artie is so underrated
I get what Rachel did. She may have been in the wrong for how she treated Santana, but in Rachels defense, Santana should have told her before hand. Santana knew this was rachels dream role, and to even perform the song Rachel has spend her life perfecting when she could have chosen a different song, i think thats why i cant sympathise with Santana. I personally I prefer Rachels version. It hits way harder than Santana's version.
hahahaha Rachel, how i miss her
perfect
Blaine is such a stud!
Hall of fame
I suspect the writers gave an indication to Naya and another to Lea. Like they must have told her she and Rachel would have to hug goodbye but Rachel got past her and ripped the picture. That stare full of contempt wasn´t Rachel´s but Lea.
this scene is so hilariously dramatic, like they pretended that Rachel would leave NYC forever and never talk to Santana and Kurt again lmao
I honestly think Rachel was being petty and dramatic, I think Santana should’ve asked her but at least it wasn’t a horrible person that couldn’t sing to waive their life. And Santana was always Rachel’s real friend.
I forgot glee did a cover of this song.

Tinaaaa 👊👏
tina is so good
2018 who listen
When you know Rachel is so selfish
Raise your glass
Glassed Windows
I'm tired of reading comments saying Rachel is a bitch because she really wasn't this episode. Santana was, deal with it. This was Rachel's dream, she's been talking about this since day 1 and when she finally got it, her 'friend' went behind her back to sign up for the understudy role. If Santana had spoken to Rachel and told her beforehand that she wants to audition for the role, it probably wouldn't be a problem but it's the fact she went behind her back to to it!
The break
Kristin Farquhar F that makes no sense
Ayishat Bako exactly Santana is usually my favorite character but the fact that she went behind Rachel's back to be the understudy says something. u have a point. Rachel has wanted it since the 1st day and Santana trying to mess that up just brought out the bitch in her
Why do ppl focus on that insanity as opposed to the great singers who sung the song
Let's be real. This Rachel would never have just let Santana audition because Rachel is selfish like that. Obviously she would've made it all about herself and make a huge deal about it. Santana knew this was a once in the lifetime opportunity and knew what Rachel would've done. She didn't try just to spite Rachel but because she wanted to make something out of herself.
wasn’t sure if they covered this or not so i looked it up on yt to make sure
I honestly think Santana was being selfish. This was Rachel's dream, Broadway was never Santana's dream. And Rachel offered some shows to Santana but Santana wanted ALL of them. Rachel was willing to sacrifice some of her dream to Santana, but Santana was just being selfish the whole time.
Shamila Mahmood exactly
1:54 fiction has become reality. shame on you, lea
What 🤦🏽♂️ This is such a stupid comment!
Let's not pretend this isn't an analogy that Lea wanted Naya out of Glee and Santana's storyline was over. No NY and no Brittana. You can see true meaness in Lea's eyes.
Mamma Mia
The quinn
Top saddest parts
Rachel's glee sides
Probably the best episode of season five
+Maddysen Parsons season 5 episode 9, "frenemies"
but about 5x05…???
Erma Laborde that was good to!
I hated it because Tina did wrong and got away with it.
Towards
Is Blaines shirt really short or are his pants really tall?
This scene should have focused on just the actual Glee kids, not the stupid Santana and Berry fued.
This wasn't about Berry "breakaway and spreading her wings, learning how to fly" or anything else from the lyrics. She's running away and moving out cause of a stupid, childish, and immature fight.
Wide awake
Which eps?
I forget what movie this song was in!
on the song on our way at the end of the video why does jack look at marly like his made at her when his the one who cheted
Nothing.
as Artie would say "Preach"
This is so fucking true. Preach
