i wouldnt call him an absolute monster, because hes one of the few drummers ive heard that can play quietly and tastefully, rather than a turned-up-to-11-all-the-time banger like most of the rest
simon philipps: technics is only a means to play around his absolute time he plays! he plays unbelievable drum patterns, billy cobham like and even more polymetric patterns without any wiggling and wobbling, to the point. discovered him watching his heavy funk drumming with micheal schenker on 'rock bottom' live in japan 2010. what a shame that I didn't recognize him earlier... one of the greatest drummer I have the pleasure to listen to! 🙂
Maybe more of a Return to Forever feel. I LOVE Greg Howe, but McGlaughlin stands alone. Not even the great Al DiMeola can quite get to where John gets.

ahhh maaannn... the way Otmaro Ruiz is building up his solos is soooo mega! Always taking his time and really fleshing these ideas out before hitting a climax. So special and truly a work of art.
Great playing from Simon and the band. Wish you could have left in his talking to the audience so it could have felt like an entire concert. However it was nice to see so thanks for posting this!
And my band bitches about me and the size of my kit versus the size of the stage!! Props to his roadies for getting all of that gear up on a smallish stage. that's funny as hell and I'm sending this to my guitar player!!! LMAO!!!
@@jesseg1959 omg what a description. He did a small handful of shows with him, with a wig to look like Jennifer. That's like saying Satriani formally of deep purple.
Hello, not sure who Andy Timmons is, Protocal lineup is listed here in article I sent you. But here is information on the bar guitarist -is Greg Howe, w/Micheal Jackson and many other musicians. www.allaboutjazz.com/musicians/greg-howe/ Thanks you for your comment.
Mr. Tibbs literally loves his licks.
Simon is an absolute monster on the kit and has improved with age like a fine red wine. Thanks for posting this.
Thanks

He definitely has his Steve Gadd moments !! Simon is also a brilliant recording engineer ... ;0 )

Great performance, great band. Thanks for posting.
Greg is the perfect match

Gifted shredders! Love this! Simon 1 of my life long heroes! 👏💪👍
This was so awesome
Can't believe i missed this show! Will catch them the next time they head to Indy
Can’t believe how they can remember the tunes, they don’t appear to be reading. Impressive. The are all beasts.
HUGE Respect for Simon's drumming . Band is Killin' . I remember Otmario played on Jing Chi , Robben Ford , Haslip and V.C.
absolutely incredible.
SP!! Just superb!!
Holy Howe !
Always awesome but some"howe" lacking smile: he seems so upset.
Greg ? Yeahaa...love it
yes Greg Howe on guitar.

Think I might sign my soul to the devil to have that bass player in my band
He's finger lickin' good!!!

Lolol, jazz fusion guys have roadies? They usually schlep their own gear, drive the van, etc.. 🤣🤣
I hear you Steve. For us drummers size does matter....
Solid!!! Cheers!!;-)!!
He's not a drummer,is a painter.
Imagine if Simon Phillip's and Pat Metheny got together. The only thin more amazing than the music would be the hair.
Buenas tardes tengo mi grupo de arte y música aqu dejo mi link ojala SIMÓN PHILIPS PUEDA ENTRAR Y USTEDES
THANKS DEAR SIMÓN AND ALL MUSICS
Jeff beck wasn't available ;P
About the only drummer I could compare this guy to is Vinnie Colaiuta. Did Simon Phillips ever play with Jeff Beck? That would be such a natural fit.
Yes, Simon was a session drummer for Jeff Beck a while ago in England.
Como se llama el guitarrista?
Howe Greg
I think Simon likes Mr. Tibb's playing.
Want to see a good bass player, watch a band run by a drummer.
@@bobkalkman4739 Haaaaaaa!! Good point!
Alguém sabe o nome do contrabaixista e do tecladista?
Ernest tibbs baixo e otmaro Ruiz teclados
Ce matos... !!
les bons zouvriers ont du bon matos, et en plus ils savent s'en servir, incroyable !
What..no mics on the drums, really!
You should watch that one interview. He's explaining why and how to set up the microphones. YOu can actually see two overhead mics set up.
Is that Greg Howe?
Yes, formally of Micheal Jacksons band
@@jesseg1959 Do you know why he currently isn't with Simons bannd?
@@flops0317 He's currently on the Protocol Euro tour for 2020
