  • Glass Central Station is honored to present this content from East Coast MELT! Gibson's Glassworks shared a fun technique for making a glass spring Christmas ornament. These are too cool and an amazing demonstration of elasticity in glass.

THANKS for putting this out here on YT! I FINALLY got a chance to try it. These turn out really cool. More stable than you would think depending on how tight you run the spiral. I keep the lower point on to make kind of a tail. Helps visually counter balance the top spiral section. I also discovered, if it’s not quite as evenly spiraled as Gibson’s, gently reheat the section of spiral you need to adjust till pliable and reset as desired while it cools. Before I start the flame rip, I switch the top point for a solid punty with a well seated connection and prep that for the eventual Shepard’s hook that I’ll put on as the last step. Really wonky ones look good w air plants in them too. HAVE FUN!

I have some glass figurines I'd like to turn into ornaments. I'm not a glass blower, any tips to creating/attaching loops for hanging?

If you’re ok with plastic ones, just use some e6000 and tape the loop to the top and let it cure for 24 hours. Then remove tape, im a glass blower

I love how you captured all the stress that builds up around the molten glass, you normally don't see it so pronounced
