    Getting your percentages correct especially when registering your music is crucial to properly being paid. I hope you enjoyed this! Let me know! AT 3:44 INTO THE VIDEO. I MADE A MISTAKE IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE SONGWRITER WOULD RECEIVE 37.5 CENTS TOTAL FOR THE SONGWRITING AND CO-PUBLISHING AMOUNT VERSUS THE 25 CENTS FOR THE OTHER WRITER. MY APOLOGY!

    Is 33% of performance rights also standard?

      @@TheMusicBusinessMadeEasy I am looking at a single track publishing agreement. I addition to the 50% publisher share, the publisher is asking for 33% of public performance earnings. Is this standard?

      @@davidjdove the publishing percentage includes performance rights. Looks like a catch for those that don’t understand how it works. It’s not standard, no.

    Hi,I'm new to registering for BMI.If I am registering as a songwriter,and there's another songwriter involved. How do we do the split on the songwriter side,with BMI 200% ratio? I don't have a publishing company.#Confused

    • @TheMusicBusinessMadeEasy
      @TheMusicBusinessMadeEasy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can still receive your royalties at BMI without your publishing set up. If you both own the song equally, then register it at 100% each or 50% each. You can register to equal 100% There’s a a pull down box where you can choose, that there’s no publishing company. You can take the time to set one up just like you did for your songwriting account. musicbusinessmadeeasy.com/coaching

      @@TheMusicBusinessMadeEasy ,thank you so much for responding back,and the info.! What if I just wanted to stream the song? Did I really need to sign up for BMI? Also,what is Songtrust really for?

    • @TheMusicBusinessMadeEasy
      @TheMusicBusinessMadeEasy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ladydignity if you dont want your royalties, then you don’t need to register your music. Songtrust serves as an administrative publisher that will register your music for you, Collect all royalties, take their percentage and send you the rest. Get my free checklist that tells you where you need to sign up and register your music. You should stop and take some time to learn how everything works before you release your music. If you don’t care about collecting potential royalties, then put it out for streaming.

    Hi, I have a question about registering on Ascap. I don't have an official publishing company but bought both the writer and publishing account with Ascap. In registering a song, I get the 50% for writers and 50% for publishing but am with Songtrust as my publishing admin. Would I put them as admin on ascap and put them at 0% share or put 15% since that's there commission rate? Also, if I don't have to put songtrust on ascap and ascap sends me 100% of my royalties, would I then just focus on adding my songs on songtrust to ensure the royalties they cover? My worry was that, if I put songtrust as my publisher (not admin) on ascap than they would take their commission out of my performance royalty for the publisher on ascap so I decided just to get the publisher account on ascap, but now im not sure if I should put songtrust on ascap at all. Thank you for your work.

      If Songtrust is your publishing administrator, you WOULDN'T DO any song registrations at all. Songtrust will do all of your song registrations. You would fill out your songs with Songtrust, who will take care of all of your song registrations. You will receive all of your royalties except for the percentage Songtrust receives as an administrator. Also, if you registered both a writer and publisher account with ASCAP, you do have a publishing company.

      @@TheMusicBusinessMadeEasy After looking at SongTrust I decided to go with them as well and affiliate with BMI through their platform too, my question is the only places I'll be uploading actually sound recordings with both beats I've leased and own are copyrightgov -(for sound recordings I own) my distributor and SongTrust correct?

    • @sagcap7927
      @sagcap7927 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ChrisJohnsonTV1980 I guess I’ll answer that. Yep! Like for myself. I signed up with tunecore for distribution and their publishing administration side. I’m with ascap as a writer and publisher. So when I put out an EP of my music. I register the songs. I make a date of when I want it to drop. Then I go to the publishing administration side and register my songs their as the writer. Tunecore takes care of all my registration with ascap. As a writer and publisher. It’s a clean and smooth process. Tunecore also gives its artist that have the administration account, to submit songs for sync. So you have to do (of course) another registration to that department. But it’s all worth it. You get what you pay for. Hope this helps you out!
