I found out that when I do that, the reason I felt so very accused and judged and absolutely would not be comfortable having other people see me do that, though of course maybe others don't, is that since we are not our own creators, our body is not actually ours to do as we wish but belongs to our better half. When I masturbated I was actually cancelling the value of my wife, or wife-to-be in my case which means making it as if she was never born. That was more than enough to make me stop because when the urge comes to do that, I feel it is now the devil wanting to murder my wife. That does not go over well in my book. Hey Rob , I was just discussing the price point of the upcoming Linux phones with a few people. The Pine phone comes in at $150 and now the Librem is $700 .. I am not so concerned about the native apps because since its a Linux phone you can install ICE apps which is more or less the way that Android GO functions. Taking web applications and making them accessible via a desktop shortcut. It is a development phone , so I am sure we will be able to compile whatever application CPU architecture permitting. The thing that blows me away with the Librem is the 2x's m.2 slots in the back of the phone. One holds the wireless card , and the other you can insert a m.2 SSD , so I wouldn't worry about responsiveness too much , those demo's were ran on stock dev kits without SSD. The issues with the Pine phone are (for me) , it does not ship with Dual Band WiFi and I don't want to use any of the operating systems they support. Although, it is capable of using a 'bootable microSD' like a Raspberry Pi. If they pick up more supported Distros , the Pine phone would be a no brainer if you just want a Linux phone with hardware kill switches. The Librem5 already has several iterations of releases planned, the first being 'Batch Aspen'. So for you, someone who pre-ordered , you can choose to differ your shipment until the iteration you want is ready to ship. The best video I found describing this was from TLG (The Linux Gamer) , here is the video th-cam.com/video/So_rCYArL3s/w-d-xo.html . If your only interested in the releases start the video at 4:40. There is a lot of good info here though, and he speaks directly to Librem Devs , so its credible . BTW , they did have a little issue with Google firebase , and trackers spawning within their Chat/Instant Messaging application , which they addressed promptly . This phone will only get better once it makes its way out into the wild , it will eventually be a large community where people can develop together and make the most hardened smart phone possible. Thanks for the video , I have subscribed.
I'm very excited to buy the Pinephone when it becomes available. However, they say the $149 is a development price so it may be more than that. But many positives with the Pinephone, I will definitely buy it when it becomes available. And also it's thinner than the Librem 5. For dev purposes, I don't hesitate to buy all these devices because it's an investment with what I do. My "security" app would not be allowed on any other platform so a Linux environment would be perfect.
@@robbraxmantech What do you know , I have been working on a security project for a while now as well. Mine is a hardware/software combo. Developing the app and testing would be so much better on a Linux phone. Have you published your work yet ? .. Also the prices of both devices are slowly being driven up , I'd be happy to have either , if not both. Its just crazy that I have to spend $700 to buy a phone that runs gnu , its an oxymoron. The Pine phone is supposed to be an exact Samsung Galaxy Achieve form factor , I have one someone gave me they bought it from boost mobile.. They sell that phone for $100-125 , the only really crazy thing that makes the Librem stand out to me is that m.2 slot. I just feel like we should be paying the same price as comparable phones, not more for the same phone that runs all free software 🤔. I hope you do get them both though , can't wait to see them . I have a feeling there is going to be a lot of Librem5 content to come , I look forward to the change of pace and something new. Do you plan on getting the 'Aspen' or are you going to wait ?
@@DDBAA24 I have spent less than a week on it and I've been so backlogged. Need to return to it. My next step was to use Libhandy. The operational side of the app already works so I'm just having to learn about Flatpak packaging and then UX with Libhandy. Could add more features to it as well.
This phone is very niche based. The phone is great for a person who is always concerned about their data and to prevent at an OS level from spying. To me the price is not worth the cost but that is my opinion I think if it was in the $200 range it would be worth it but I do understand the developers have to charge enough for them to create such a device/Mobile OS.
For a potential niche user like me, I understand the the Librem 5 is actually a desktop computer in a phone form factor. So I'd rather have it have all the capability. There is a competing phone that will be $149. This is the Pinephone. Also a Linux phone. But it will not have the same features for privacy.
I see the big disappointment if a good camera is not on the pine phone or the Librem phone. You can save old phones for the other stuff you miss. I just want a camera to go to an SD card. 73
I mostly just use my phone for web browsing, listening to music, taking photos, and of course texting and calling. However, I do like having software available in case I ever needed them. For the most part, I believe the Librem 5 would work for me, though the limitations would bother me. Linux on the desktop for the most part, has stabilized, and cemented itself into the tech world, through the FOSS community. I switched to Linux on the desktop because all the apps I needed were available, and many more were there for the future. Maybe now is the time for the Linux and FOSS army to go and conquer new territory; such as the mobile/smartphone world. At first it'll be very rocky, as it is now. But I wholly believe that it will only get better with time, and in the future it may become just as usable for most people as Android and iOS is now. And then, I'll board that ship, when I'm sure enough that it wont sink.
@@braelinmichelus Yes let guys me do the beta testing. You can just spectate from the background. It may be this phone, the pine phone or someday some manufacturer may be smart enough to add hardware switches.

Will these phones support VoLTE? Cricket Wireless is pushing to new models -VoLTE and 5G, and there is no support for Lineage OS or /e/ for those. Not sure about Linux phones. So, I think we are zucked.
To a degree they are better options than IOS and Android. But surveillance can still occur at the baseband and wifi firmware level which can only solved with hardware switches. So this is an in between solution. At least it stops Google.

You mention all the apps missing, but what about the ones you gain? When it's just a scaled down Linux PC with a touchpad, I can basically use everything that runs on Linux, right? if there is no native Hearthstone app, I should still be able to install Lutris and run Hearthstone with that. Not to mention Steam. There are a ton of games that are only available on steam, not on android or ios, and a Librem should allow me to play everything steamOS supports, right?? I should even be able to run libre office or even GIMP, right? For me this doesn't sound like a loss of apps but actually like a massive gain. Or is there anything I'm missing (asside from the fact that libre office and Gimp really won't be practical on a tiny touchscreen. I'm aware that not all software will look good on it)
That it quit correct though some changes have to be made to make these apps responsive on a small form factor. But to prove the point, I already made an app for Linux that will work just fine on a Librem 5 (or any Linux). I will demo it in a video this week I hope.
Hi Rob, I’ve just ordered my Librem 5 would you recommend the default pureos or should I look at install an alternative such as Ubuntu touch. Great video as always :)
I personally would use PureOS on it or go back and forth with different SD cards. On my Pinephone I like to play with Debian/Phosh for programming (most similar to PureOS).
Cool phone, but ebanking in EU works only via push notifications to the phone and the banking apps only work on ios or android. So people with a librem 5 will need a second phone for ebanking... At least in the EU
Rob, I am an average consumer. No experience with Linux. Carrying an iPhone currently, but want to ditch for many reasons (privacy concerns being one). Would a Librem 5 be something I can use, or is it not really prime time yet?
I wouldn't say that but it's true for most people who don't try new things. Yes a novice can learn and there are Linux forums to help along the way. 73
Contraire my friend! Since this is a full desktop squeezed into a phone there are many more mysterious things you can do! Watch my Linux Phone video and look at the sample app I was making. If you saw that in action it would open your eyes to possibilities! They'd ban that app on IOS and Android.
it still gives away the phone's imei id soon as the wifi is turned on to get internet.... that still track your location... and that id# doesn't change so to comply with FCC regulation if it's to be legally sold in U.S. So yeah
Libertine can run many x86_64 packages. For example, Steam and some older games could probably work, but with the limited hardware + the emulation layer, I doubt this will even run the original, 1998 Half life 1
In my experience, Libertine is very limited. Remember that the Ubuntu Touch Kernel is using Kernel 3.4. Being an old Kernel, many apps are compiled with newer libraries and fail because of these dependencies that don't exist in Ubuntu 16.04. Then you have the problem of compatibility of the translation of graphics calls from Xorg to MIR (Xmir). this is all a black box to me at the moment but all I know is that many basic apps do not install.
@@robbraxmantech True, but at least we are at some point. I can agree, i tried libertine with steam on my Nexus 7 with Ubuntu touch and it kept crashing. Do you know if Purism will let phosh be downloadable? I'm a sucker for gnome and gtk apps and I don't really like plasma mobile, for when I'll have the pinephone. I do know that postmarket os offers a phosh gui, but what if i want to install it with some other linux distro?
For someone very computer illiterate, and just use to iPhones and never dealt with security, what would you recommend someone do for anti virus or any other security?
I like the feature on Librem5 that the battery is removable - that means I can keep it as long as I want, depending on if the charging ports won't wear out.
The cell baseband specs have already been released. You have two options and that should cover whatever bands are available in your area. Should cover 4G.
Navigation seems like a priority. ofc one might use a wifi only tablet in conjunction. There remains the option of a faraday bag with android/ios. Obviously it is of no use when the phone is in use...

I wish Purism and Librem 5 the best and hope it'll live well! By the meantime, i'm waiting to get my new Librem 5 as they make it available. 700$ is no big deal when i think about my HTC U11 that decided to die after 16 months... and it had the "thick battery" disease and i had to get it replace while paying for the shipping and wait for at least a month to come back... F** Androïd, IOS , Facebook and Macroshaft, i HATE them all...
This may be a dumb question but do you think signing out of an iPhone/iCloud and just using it without being signed in makes any difference in security? If your data is connected to your Apple ID, would it be more difficult to be tracked if you just used the phone without an Apple ID?
Sorry that will not foil Apple or Google or your carrier. There are so many unique identifiers on the phones. Mac Address, IMEI, IMSI, Apple/Google ID, Email. IP address. Browser fingerprint. And they are all associated together so if one is missing, they can lookup the other values. You can't turn off or change the IMEI for example. Good question though since most people don't really understand how these are evolved spy machines.
The lack of fingerprint scanner is a deal breaker for me. It's more secure than entering a code or pattern and much more convenient. This will also unfortunately shrink the market for the Librem5.
Good point. The "device security" has not been the main focus. Mostly it's privacy. But the tech in fingerprint login is well known so it could be something that could be added.
@@touchdownk In my case, I''m not so concerned about device security as I am external spying of my device. At the moment, there is no alternative. This is as close as we can get when talking about a newer phone. If this succeeds then there could be competitors as well that up the game.
@@robbraxmantech I'll have to give it some thought. Maybe it's worth giving up some convenience for a while to support an alternative. Will keep an eye on the reviews once they start coming in.
I really don't care about any of those apps he mentions. Privacy is far more important to me. I just wish there was a lower priced option. But It's worth it.
Would you please tell me how many PLS8-US bands available on this phone, would be necessary for smooth operating on one of our carriers? I'm learning..... :-)
There's a discussion on Reddit about supported bands. There are two basebands available and it shows a chart and between the two basebands they should support everything from 3G to all the LTE's. The question though is Verizon. I believe Verizon requires approval by device while ATT and Tmobile accepts any device that works in their frequency. I happen to be on T-Mobile so I presume it will just work.
I have no idea when I will get one. Not likely to be in the first batch. So we shall see. The only thing that is unsightly is that the phone will be thick. Thicker than what we are used to since 2007
@@robbraxmantech I don't think Pinephone offers physical switches for you to be able to turn the antenna and/or camera and/or microphone off as you wish.

Awesome video Thank you ! I know personally that android phones are weapons and I leave it at home as much as possible and when I take it with me I use it when I must and then take out the battery. Still even with the battery out, of course it is still a tracker of my location and, is my chipped credit card a tracker too ? Just wondering. Also, I think even when I have the battery out of the device and in my pocket or backpack, the presence of other phones on around me, for example on the bus or train, can be a very concentrated weapon upon me or anyone they choose because they have people they target and each person has a very unique frequency. There is a military device, which is who designed cell phones in the first place and after confirming through 23 long reports that cell phones heat the organs and cause literally tens of negative effects upon the human body, that can be focused upon anyone they choose and by dialing it up will easily kill a person. The wrong people have been in control and now thank God they are on the run because they are being very clearly exposed. Thanks also for mentioning the Pine phone. First time hearing of that. I am hoping that the issues of a phone going dead or losing most Google contacts when the service is transferred to the another phone will be defeated using the Librem phone. I am not a Linux user but have been wanting to learn it with a laptop while keeping my windows laptop until I am proficient at it. I can be online working at 3 am and the thing will start buffering when I am writing about government fraud in the comments on TH-cam for example. As if the internet is clogged at that hour which of course it isn't. As we know Windows is constantly gathering information from people like me so they can round me up and kill me someday. I just laugh at their stupidity ! Sad as it is. They will soon wake up when they realize there are 10,000 of us to each one of them. Boy are they dumb ! I know that could have been me because when the devil offers an abused soul something attractive, they do not know how to say no. If you’re concerned about being tracked can you just turn your phone off? And if you drive a car with a license plate on it every time the police go by you or you go by a police car your tag is being automatically read and stored in a database wherever you are unless you have a tag cover and if you have a tag cover you better make sure the laws in your state don’t prohibit them because if they are prohibited the fine will cost more than two of these phones😣😣😣

I disagree with your view on Windows phones. Windows owned corporate America phones with Outlook, Word, and Excel built in. I had the HTC Touch Pro2. It was the pocket pc with cell capabilities. I could wipe it, try different operating systems, or set it up dual-boot. It was Balmer who threw it all away. He switched the operating system to the Zune gaming system OS which could not use the thousands of apps that Android and IOS couldn't come close to competing with. Balmer decided to start a store like Apple and freeze out multi-tasking apps except for Microsoft apps. They called the apps Metro, then Modern, then Universal, trying to ditch the Metro disdain. The mess is still with us in Windows 10 even though Microsoft abandoned the platform. Apple was there and building. Android was nowhere but was the most open, and the only place the other hardware vendors could go. Microsoft's previous developers developed the tools and apps for Android. It took years for Android and IOS to come close to Windows Mobile apps which is why I couldn't leave the Touch Pro2. So the problem with Windows phones is they DON"T run Windows apps. People HATED Microsoft's Surface tablets that ran RT/Zune. The only reason Microsoft tablets are around today is they run real Windows apps. If people could get their hands on a pocket PC again, Android and IOS will go the way of the MAC where the only the 5% who want to make a statement would be running them. The phones would tie into corporate networks seamlessly and easily managed, which you still cannot do today. Balmer blew Microsoft's advantage. It would be like releasing a Windows 11 that would not be able to run all previous Windows programs.
I don't like the librem phone. Last time I saw it, couldn't even play youtube right. But that doesn't matter as it is unfinished. However what DOES matter is the illusion that this is the only phone that is for the privacy oriented, while in reality millions of android phones can just install a custom rom, or even linux ! If all that you're afraid of is google or apple (which most of you are), then that is more than enough for you ! The only redeeming quality for the librem phone for me is the hardware kill switches. Tho, just because I don't like it doesn't mean I hate it. I actually like it for the reason that it will be finally the big push to linux on phones. And IMO, that's what Purism is aiming for !

@@robbraxmantech I know you're not a game person, but Linux OS has plenty of games that would run on a smart-phone screen. Some of which might be suitable for smart phones if there were touch-screen capability for any specific game.
THAT would be a money-maker to write - a conversion for touch-screen that could be added to games & tiny apps etc that already exist on Linux.

@@jonathanmcdonald7512 Hi and thanks for your comment. I used to do that very recently and most of my life (I'm 66 now).
At 8:46 Rob grows another head. Is he an alien from outer space?
@2:20 how do we know that the 3 letter agencoes are nto sharing our data with big tech?
cant wait till it will be released. I beleive its next step in mobile devices evolution. Something like phone-pc :)
Yep. Might actually kickstart more use of Linux on client computers.
7:47 I expect PureOS to be better than android when it comes to touch as there is no java between the UI and linux.
we will find out soon (or not so soon depending on your batch). I'm not expecting a performance better than Android since you can already test Gnome.
I mostly just use my phone for web browsing, listening to music, taking photos, and of course texting and calling.
However, I do like having software available in case I ever needed them. For the most part, I believe the Librem 5
would work for me, though the limitations would bother me. Linux on the desktop for the most part, has stabilized,
and cemented itself into the tech world, through the FOSS community. I switched to Linux on the desktop because
all the apps I needed were available, and many more were there for the future. Maybe now is the time for the Linux
and FOSS army to go and conquer new territory; such as the mobile/smartphone world. At first it'll be very rocky,
as it is now. But I wholly believe that it will only get better with time, and in the future it may become just as usable
for most people as Android and iOS is now. And then, I'll board that ship, when I'm sure enough that it wont sink.
In summary, certainly not now, but maybe in the future.
@@braelinmichelus Yes let guys me do the beta testing. You can just spectate from the background. It may be this phone, the pine phone or someday some manufacturer may be smart enough to add hardware switches.

The games need to be compiled for ARM.
Only if you need to do banking on the road. In my case, I have iphones and androids. I just leave them at home.

Rob, I am an average consumer. No experience with Linux. Carrying an iPhone currently, but want to ditch for many reasons (privacy concerns being one). Would a Librem 5 be something I can use, or is it not really prime time yet?
Not for the novice. But Linux is the way, so better learn about it.
I wouldn't say that but it's true for most people who don't try new things. Yes a novice can learn and there are Linux forums to help along the way. 73
I really hope the Librem 5 sticks.
They have announced shipping. It will have some headwinds I'm sure.
As a phone? No, it's too barebones.
As a concept to invest in? Absolutely!

How does this phone compare to the omerta graphene pixel Titan? Which one is better?
If I have a copper mesh bag to carry my phone in will it block signal to prevent tracking ?
For someone very computer illiterate, and just use to iPhones and never dealt with security, what would you recommend someone do for anti virus or any other security?

Just so we are clear, the Pinephone is a Linux phone, it has no Privacy features. LIbrem 5 is unique in that.
I like the feature on Librem5 that the battery is removable - that means I can keep it as long as I want, depending on if the charging ports won't wear out.

It need to be cheaper... I understand a premium for privacy but 700 bucks is outrageous.
It will go down in price in time, but you won't be able to say you were a cutting edge user.

The lack of fingerprint scanner is a deal breaker for me. It's more secure than entering a code or pattern and much more convenient.

My laptop experience is so very affected by information they are gathering all the time off my work it is ridiculous. The good people will soon win and there will be no Hollywood or evil mainstream media teaching people 24/7 how the world ISN'T ! Thanks again for the info.

11:22 I wish Apple would do a recent CPU iPhone original retro or anniversary.

I don't think you watched my other videos on this topic. Custom rom is not an option. I have several recent related videos that answer all this.

@@kquote03 I certainly will not push a specific phone like a Librem 5 since some people will dislike aspects of it like its chunkiness, etc. But I'm educating people so that more companies come out with alternatives that work (and have hardware switches). I hear the Pinephone will have hardware switches but it's a slower CPU though it is cheaper.
I don't need crappy apps...... I just wished that this Phone had quad DAC and amp android phone audio quality sucks
LOL. At least I can see your priorities! As a musician, I get it.

just watched another interesting video about RISC-V. How does that fit in to the Librem phone might you mention. Thanks again for your videos ! th-cam.com/video/67KW4t42SZk/w-d-xo.html
