I was thinking the same thing too. We’ll see if that’s the case when we see his gameplay
I saw the image and immediately thought of the shin state. Given he doesn't really want to embrace the oni state but still wants it's power he'd probably finally mastered the shin state.

I figured that he’s grown so adept at using the satsui no hado that Shin Akuma is now his default state.
When I saw it I assumed he just got older.
I think this is a new form related to shin akuma
either that or he's getting old despite being a demon (if you remember street fighter 3 he has some white streaks on his hair indicating he was aging)

There’s him getting older, but it seems to be a pattern in Japanese fiction that characters with white hair have become demonic to some degree. And Akuma has always been associated with being somewhat demonic in nature.
I assume this is either a combination of him getting older given this is decades after Steet Fighter III and him naturally being in his Shin Akuma state given some versions of the form give him white hair, probably because he needs to use his full power to continue fighting in his old age.
His Shin Mode is like Black Adam's Power.
This isn't decades after SFIII, it's only a few years after, because the SF timeline is all over the place. The best indicator for how much time has passed, since Capcom refuses to give us actual dates for when their games take place, is Li-Fen's age. In Third Strike she is a little girl, and in SF6 she is a teenager. It seems reasonable that 5 years, plus or minus a few years, has passed between Third Strike and SF6.
There have been 2 versions of Akuma so far that have had the white hair. This is Shin Akuma (the one that over came the corruption in the Satsui No Hado and retained his human form, controlling the power) and Oni (the version that fully embraced the Satsui No Hado and lost all humanity.) To note, he is in his mud 60s BUT it's known that the Satsui No Hado drastically slows his aging (much like Oro's power.) It's unlikely then that the white hair is due to age. Either way, Shin Akuma or Oni, we are going to be in for one of, if not the, strongest versions of Akuma seen yet.

It's always been canon, you partialy play as shin akuma in V, when you do the raging demon CA he has the true demon kanji 神人 instead of the hevean kanji 天
Fun Fact: In Akuma's original concept art for SF6 He was originally going to be fighting with a baby on his back. And would put down the baby for his super to unleash his full strength.

Isn't that just Shin Akuma? I remember he achieving the powers of Shin Oni and doing so turned his hair white. Also, Oni's hair were also white (or a very bright blue)

I would vote that the reason behind hes white hair is because hes becoming more in tune with the Dark Hado....therefore slolwly turning into Oni.

Every time Akuma had completely white hair, it was usually tied to him gaining a greater power. Like with his Shin and Oni forms, this latest incarnation might connect more to his Shin state and make him a greater threat. Mind you that he is old, he grew up along side Gouken after all, but the power he has either doesn’t allow him to age passed his physical prime or makes him age far slower than anyone else.
Remember Shin Akuma? I think he evolved to a point where that super powered form of Akuma is now just his base form

It’s both, as he ages older, his skills have drastically change. Who knows how violent and powerful he’s become.
People don't realize just how old Akuma is and how fast some people's hair turns grey. Large areas of Akuma's hair was already white in 3. The guy is still human and age is finally catching up with him.
I remember when SF6 was first revealed and the entire roster was leaked almost immediately, INCLUDING THE FIRST 4 DLC CHARACTERS
I think it’s a combo of stuff. Yes his age and he also is tapping more of the dark Hadao. I mean when he goes Oni, his hair is white. I think it’s like that perfect line of power and humanity all at once. He is at the peak of his power and created a new peak.
Reading the title I thought Akuma was going Michael Jackson.
I think it's a combination of age, and some aftereffects from when he was Oni, with the transformation permanently changing his hair
In another official concept art he's seen with the usual red hair, so my theory is that he'll have some form of stance change that changes his hair to white mid fight
Rose said in Sf4. When he became Oni. She stated that he appeared earlier in the timeline. So Sf4 > sf3s >sf6. Age + the more he taps into his true [Shin] powers his hair charges to white. Later reach a sense of immortality such as Oro when tapped deeper into the Satsui no Hado
As a fan of Akuma who mains him in each game he is in i love this new design, probably a refrence to his form as Oni or Shin Akuma. And i dont believe there will be any way that they wont include a alt color with red hair, so if you do hate the white hair there will inevitability be that option.

A combination of age and possibly leaning more towards becoming Oni. Similar hair styles iirc and his win animation is a massive reference to Oni. He seems to be in the final stages of losing himself.

Akuma was already like over 100 years old, and he didn't had any gray hair, it's his stronger Shin Akuma form
I mean, based on how old cammy is in sf6, she is 49, and in sf4 she was 22, and gouken in the same game is said to be late 60 early 70, so akuma would be around that age range, meaning, he is about late 80 to early 90 in sf6

This definitely shows that he's gone back to Shin Akuma, because in streetfighter five bisons hair turned white yet he still retains his youth thanks to the psycho power. Who's to say that the Satstui no hado does the same
Akuma has reached his Ultimate Koom.
This is probably going to be Shin Akuma instead of regular Akuma for this game. The more he lets the Satsui No Hado take control, the more power he receives. Shin Akuma in most Street Fighter games (except for Street Fighter Alpha 2 where Shin Akuma has bright red hair) has white hair compared to the red hair of normal Akuma. If you play Ultra Street Fighter IV, then Oni (Akuma's full power when under complete control of the Satsui No Hado) has white hair and a dark purple aura.

It looks like it’s just his street fighter 5 form, but mixed with shin Akuma
thing is SHIN-Akuma was always this transformation who was clearly enspired by SSJ1, making him stronger when he transformed into it, and even declaring at somepoint lore wise that SHIN-Akuma is akuma using 100% of his power, comparing him to a God-level fighter, Now ONI took that role in ashuras wrath, and seeing as SF5 implied that Akuma evolves more and more into the direction of ONI. giving him even a alternate costume that shows his skin falling off revealing all the dark hado energie inside of him. and the white-hair being a signifcant part of ONI s design. it make sense that Akumas hair would have to turn white more commenly if he were to transform into oni fully at somepoint. Also yea age alone would also turn his hair white, but seeing as his hair is clearly still red in ashuras wratch and he only gets white hair as shin-akuma and ONI, it could also implie that the SF6 akuma is indeed getting closer to Having Oni powers in baseform and eventualy transform into him permantly, but we of course only know when he is released.

He's Shin from is almost on the path to Oni it's like this: Gouki (before having the dark hado) Akuma (with Dark Hado) > Shin Akuma (a more powerful state) > Oni (lost himself to the Dark Hado)

He's just old. He already had white streaks by SF3. SF4 we saw his brother Gouken already had fully white hair and bald on the top of his head. By now Akuma should be as old as Gouken was in SF4

I am sure that we are seeing Akuma in his Shin form...and I'd say it is sake to say that Akuma is now stuck in his Shin form
Lore wise he is closer to attain full time shin akuma mode, if you dont know about it, than you wont understand it for sure, shin akuma is the supreme form of akuma, akuma fully merged with his inner oni demon while completely mastering it instead of being overcome by it, its akuma supreme form.

My man is old as dirt, his rival died from old age, and he's embraced the dark hado for so long that I believe it could be a very small reference to Oni because it seems to be somewhat luminescent in the concept art. Just my take....so both....both is good
