  • Mayim and Brian discuss their life experiences and dissect Brian’s transformation from “nerd” to famous comedian and the impact of being a big man. Brian recounts his time working with Mayim on the Big Bang Theory and his excitement playing Dungeons and Dragons with Mayim and other members of the team! Mayim examines recent scientific research on the therapeutic potential of this socially engaging tabletop game! The conversation leads into a discussion of coping mechanisms and subsequent discussion of Brian’s use of marijuana. Both Brian and Mayim examine the risks and benefits of marijuana use.

Been talking to Brian on the AWG Strike Line and now I feel like I'm metagaming our conversations... It's a weird time where, if you bump into anyone with any public presence you. can usually find at least one podcast with them. Which are very different than 8 minute segments promoting something. It's always. more in-depth and you see under a few layers of the onion. Maybe we should all have podcasts so whenever you meet someone, you can watch a few episodes of their life and get up to speed asap. Get the cliff notes. I wonder how many times we've retold our "story" and how over time, it's changed or been condensed out of the sheer drudgery of repeating all that blather.
Also, my D&D group from NJ from over 40 years ago got back together over zoom, triggered by the pandemic, and.we've been playing now every Sunday for over 3 years... It's nice to get the band back together, literally. I'm in LA, they're in PA and FLA and it's now of the only things I look forward to these days.
Thank you so much for this. :')

Thank you for inviting Brian Posehn on your podcast Miyam. I know him from his stand up - funny and smart. In the interview he gave an inkling of the cards he was dealt in life and he never folded. His comedy is so relatable if you ever wanted to create a better life for yourself with no guarantee things will work out in your favor.
Nerding out on metal, comedy, comics is good self defense - it feeds the part of us that loves life in spite of the obstacles we face.
Brian Posehn shows us the way.
Thank you, Miyam, for asking good questions and listening.

Mayim saying if Trump was elected during Covid near the time you got divorced - omg I felt the same way. My son joined the Navy because he COULD NOT do zoom college. I never even thought about if this was when my kids were younger, and I had to worry about child care, if I had to deal with this and the first few years after my divorce I wouldn’t have made it either. I am revisiting this in 2023 and I am still feeling overwhelmed by the world. As an introvert I loved being home but we all know the more comfortable we become in that the harder it is to come out. In 2023 still trying to figure it out and thank god for you Jonathan and this podcast that continues to help me through

I've found that especially since the height of the LOTR and Harry Potter releases, "geek" has become so closely tied with the term "nerd", that the definition of "nerd" through democratic use and acceptance has become less exclusively about deep scholastic interests.

@@kencoleman5007 nah, it makes no sense to use the two interchangeably. if they were the exact same words with the exact same connotations, there wouldn't be a need for them. besides, i think both groups of people are extremely different and need to be validated in their own way

      @kencoleman5007 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@hannalowercase5928 I agree. While there are combinations (I've heard of the term "neek"), I think that the two have separate meanings and despite growing numbers seeing them as synonyms (such common acceptances gets definitions democratically re-worded), they should each be separately recognized.

Thank you Mayim. Having grown up with allergies to most foods and most of nature, with eczema, having asthma, being adopted, and gay, I understand what being an outsider feels like. When I was young I never believed I would live to be 25 and so never planned on a future. I never wanted to be anything when I grew up because I wasn't ever going to grow up. Now that I am 54, I sometimes look back and wonder how the heck I made it. I do not know whether I will ever use some of the tools I learn about during your podcasts, but I certainly don't feel quite so alone in my childhood experience. So again, thank you.

This was a really good episode!! I loved hearing Brian's story and seeing someone else speak who is clearly so introverted and struggles with social situations. Watching public figures that are introverts and dorky and nerds and geeks is so relatable. It makes me feel seen, so thank you for that. Thank you for giving us something to look up to. I also loved the discussions about pot. that is always something that has freaked me out and made me very uncomfortable. I have no desire to ever smoke pot or anything like that, but listening to the way you talk about it on this show brings a greater level of understanding to me and I appreciate that. It has made me more comfortable with discussions of pot now that I have a better understanding of it. But that is true of most things discussed on this podcast. Love, love, love everything you are doing. Thank you to Mayim, Jonathon, and Brian for another great episode. Can't wait for next week!

I loved how you covered these topics. Respectfully, as a medical marijuana patient (who has quit weed long term during pregnancy, breast feeding, etc) I can say, the benefits far outweigh any negatives. Although they’re important to look at, smoking has given me a spark in life, education and hobbies. It keeps me from needing anxiety and depression medications. It improves my relationships with people, food and money. It improves my sex life. It keeps me interested in the world around me, and helps me in my inner work as well. Overall, if used correctly, medical marijuana helps many people get their lives back. Thank you for covering the topic, and i hope you re visit it soon.

Please, about empathy to animal suffering, a behavoiur that at the same time makes me cry, feel anger and be rebel against it, please take a look to the video attached of what is actually happening at the German Lab VIVOTECNIA (name is yet terrible) in Madrid, one that’d crossed all red lines. Video attached at this link: elpais.com/clima-y-medio-ambiente/2021-04-18/vivotecnia-el-laboratorio-de-los-horrores.html?outputType=amp and if possible, consider taking action. Plus than 880 animals are still there, even after lots of NGO demonstrations and that almost all Spanish Sanctuaries offered perpetually their sites to host them. WARNING!: Video is with age restrictions bc cruelty.

This is so funny! I'm a nursing student and last week we learned about hyperemesis cannabis syndrome. Now I've seen this phrase several times! In school, a patient where I work was diagnosed with it, and here. My friend who works in the ER said they get a lot of patients with it. It's often not believed that the pot is making them sick. They go home and then are back again soon later with copious vomiting!

I enjoyed the discussion. I grew 8" over a two year span, but I did it when I was in 9th & 10th grade. Ended up being 6'2". I knew a guy in high school who was around 5'9" in high school and when I saw him again after freshman year of college he had grown to be 6'4".

Oh I relate to him so much. I’m a 6’4 female and grew 6 inches in the 3 months between 6th and 7th grade. My family is also very tall, but no one knew what to do with girl that height. Then I didn’t get coordination until I was 16/17. It was difficult.

What they’re getting into is ultimately dirty weed that isn’t being regulated and passing lab tests. There’s a chemical called Azadirachtin that is created when Neem Oil is burned. Neem Oil is a widely used organic pesticide that’s used even on vegetables, but you’re not smoking vegetables. So traces of Neem Oil are left in the plant, and when smoked it creates that chemical. University of Washington/Colorado did a study and gave people who smoke weed and don’t a dose of pure Azadirachtin and all of them suffered from CHS symptoms. Because Neem Oil is an organic pesticide and it passes tests, probably about over half of the weed at dispensaries have traces of Neem Oil. Which is sad since people are going there to help alleviate those specific problems exactly. My step brother was hospitalized well over a dozen times for it, but the shit he was smoking would make Mexican Shwag look good. He just wanted to smoke and didn’t have a job so got the cheapest shit he could find and he got what he paid for. Can completely avoid the issue if you grow your own lol

Hey Mayim. I was happy to hear that you were into D&D. I've been playing since 1984 and I have been in the same group of people since 1990. As Brian said, It is definitely more about the group of friends than the game. We've actually played quite a few types of games like D&D, Warhammer Fantasy, and one of my favorites is Bushido (a Medieval Japanese game). Thanks for talking to Brian. I like to hear about all "celebrities" that play as it makes it easier to relate to them.

I can tell you, as a family of alcoholics, my father, being a Native American, he was using alcohol on the Rez very young. His last detox, at 55, was so bad, that we would wipe his forehead and blood was coming out of his pores. This was also when he was diagnosed with a frontal lobe brain tumor. At this time, I had already been a Hospice nurse for about 20 years (because of brother with HIV and then my dad with brain cancer).... Also helped so much with my codependency and predisposed addictions.

Thank you so much. This means a lot. As of today, I'm facing my final days as a Hospice nurse because of a recent diagnosis. But, at the end of the day, everything I do and will do will be for my kids, my grandkids, my brother and my dad. And I'm truly honored to have been a part of so many amazing souls that I've taken care of in my lifetime as a nurse. Thank you so much for your uplifting comment. 🙏 💜

I really love your channel. Hearing all of the stars personal stories are amazing. One thing that was lost in translation, for me at least, is the fact that getting mental health help is next to impossible due to current lockdowns and restrictions. The guests that you have, my impression but NOT diminishing any experiences, have much more resources than the average person. Example...I know someone very close to me that has been dealing with issues to the point where he can't work and is a shut-in. His wife works and makes great money but they still can't afford insurance for him. I'm sad for him. Just a thought. Please keep doing what you're doing. You're beautiful inside and out.
