Timber Joey: America's Best Mascot?

Most mascots are people hiding underneath a costume, but Timber Joey of the Portland Timbers is just himself. Inheriting a storied position as the lumberjack who slices a log after each Timbers goal, Timber Joey doesn't have to pretend to be anything, which might make him the best mascot of all.

The Mac club was built in the 1920's for Football, Cricket, and greyhound racing. It wasn't designed for baseball but was retro fitted in the 1960's.
I remember as a kid watching the portland state vikings play there with my uncle and grandpa :) great memories

The Marshmallow Man Football is not descriptive enough. Association football is the most correct term. Soccer is derived from English slang in the 1860s, a shortened version of association. Soccer is more correct at describing the sport than football, which has many different codes around the world under the same name.

i think i found my new team and a new place to move to.
no point moving here friend. i'd say we're getting overrun, but we passed that point years ago. timbers army is all over north america, though, and we have outposts all over the world, and even though every match sells out, you can usually find a fellow army member to get a ticket from if you're in town.

Since when does the us have passionate football fans?
+Julian Boffa The Timbers (Portland, Oregon), The Sounders (Seattle, Washington State), The Lions (Orlando, Florida), and the NYCFC's Third Rail (New York City, New York) are the four best fan bases in the USA, in that order. Toronto FC, Columbus Crew, and many others are notable for their away game presence too but are just below those top 4 most passionate fan bases.
Many of the other teams fan bases are mediocre (my New England Revolution are a good example, only the season ticket holders who sit together behind both goals are the passionate fans here, but there are far fewer of them then there are in the Timbers Army)
And then the Colorado Rapids and Philadelphia Union are known for low attendance and weaker fan bases.
So in short, 4 cities are VERY passionate football/soccer fans, many other cities are above average in passion, and then there are Colorado and Philadelphia, the non-supportive fans.
However, when the USMNT has an important game on home soil, the American Outlaws show up and change everything.
And since the 2014 world cup, passionate fans have been increasing in number

probably a reflection of who you know. You'd be hard pressed to find anyone in the Pacific NW who hasn't heard of the Timbers or Sounders

The 1 guy who cares about soccer.
Actually, there are a few more here in Portland. This past Sunday, the Timbers hosted their 177th MLS regular season home game (182nd if counting playoffs) and had their 177th (182nd) consecutive sellout. Timber Joey has been there each and every game. He's a great mascot, but an even better person, one I am proud to call my friend.
