@@CraigSteelyard Yes, the aged Super NES yellow/brown. That discoloration is actually created from a fire-retardant chemical that was in the plastic of the Super NES. Doesn't age well and very hard to clean up.
I would love to see the ring used with transparent-frosted side panels so the individual LEDs weren't so obvious and the light could be blurred through the whole panel.
I think it would be difficult. The ring of LEDs were visible through the solid color replacement panels. I think there needs to be an additional defuser in addition to a frosted side panel.

Back when the 360 used to make custom faceplates and crazy custom consoles was so awesome. It’s a shame Sony never really gets into the customisation as much as the competition does.

If you want to block the lights form leaking through the after market plates, you could try to apply some "Aluminum Tape/Aluminum Foil Tape" to the inside as a light block. It will also help to reflect the lights more as well.
Damn, I love the clear plates! I've always loved transparent console stuff. I'm waiting until we get a transparent DualSense....I've had one for every PlayStation, so definitely want to keep that going. I really wish Sony would get on to selling custom plates themselves...there's a definite market for it, Sony going with White on the PS5 has really created interest for people to want to make it literally any other color. Third party just never has the PS logo, or the tiny Triangle, Circle, X, Square design that's become synonymous with the PS5 now. It's the big reason I refuse to pay the prices for them...I have a thing with it not feeling official. Like it doesn't matter in the long run...but I'll always know.
I completely get you. I finally purchased the D-Brand Dark Plates but for the longest time I refused to do so due to the lack of the PS emblem. I really hope Sony would produce official plates but I have this sinking feeling they won't. At most I see Sony doing a black PS5 but no separate plates. I do hope I'm wrong. I remember the plates they did for the original PS4. They only did two plates.. TWO! The PS4 was out for some time but they only gave us two plates. (sigh) Fingers crossed they make official plates.

Question, do you plan to get the D-Brand Dark Plates? I finally broke down and purchased a set and await their arrival. It would be so much better if the PS5 light changed colors. Would be so much better to customize and match with the faceplates. Maybe even similar to the PS3 xmb colors
I think HW wise it can change since it already can make itself blue,white,orange an red if it overheats.It mostly depends on Sony to let you change it in software
I love the design of the PS5. Looks almost alien. The color is perfect. Every other color kinda ruins it for me, but I still appreciate the fact that they gave us the option, whether intentional or not.
Not a fan of the clear case. Would look better if it were frosted honestly. Diffuses light better and still hides the internal details. Love the right LED though mosdef!
I've had the DBrand dark plates for months and love em. Those clear plates might be really good for people to paint and customize them themselves. Might consider that myself

the clear with the RGB is pretty freakin sweet. I'm not into RGB enough to do this, but that's definitely the coolest one - especially if your setup has a ton of rgb.

That "gold" one looks like aged PC cases from the 90s that used to be white. I like the LED shining through the solid plastic but only on one side because my monitor us right next to my PS5.
Last week for the first time here in argentina, i found a seller of a black faceplate and i bought it instantly. No regrets looks perfect and it should have been like that.
The black plates are the most appealing for me. But I feel the same. I don’t want to store my white plates or sell them off. The white is good and actually looks fresh in my tv stand. The black looks to bulky honestly. I’ll probably go for a black when they slim down the console in the future
@@jonnyfive5000 i kind of like the unique design of the PS5 but it is very unpractical to handle, those plates with the edges sticking out, the PS4 was beautiful but more simplistic and solid, especially the original with the light strip on the top
@@rfh9560 the ps5 design has grown on me. I appreciate the boldness and the sophisticated tech look Sony went for. They used to be the top of the line when it came to audio and video technology. The design harkens back to that mindset Sony had in the 90s and up to the ps3. I hope they continue to to take risks in new games tho. The ps4 they played it safe because they were at their worst financially. So everything was very minimalist all the way to the design esthetic. I didn’t have a ps4 until the slim and pro models but do wish they included the light strip somehow. It’d be great if Sony gave us the option to change the light color and/or dim it on the ps5 thru the settings in the UI.

It has its practical uses too, being able to easily remove the faceplates come in handy. The lights are used to convey information, it makes sense not being able to change the colours. I don’t even want them too bright either, could be too distracting

I did the red lights around the fan, then on the interior of the ps Face plate I glued aluminum foil about 1/2 inch wider than the rings and it keeps the lights from shining through the face plates and reflects the light brighter where the ps5 led's shine out by the vents. Cheap and effective.
The light stickers and logo stickers are pretty cool and of course the Darkplates, but best mod is the Sabrent ssd cover heatsink that is coming out at the end of this month. Not a fan of to much rgb I like a more stealth look with minimal lighting effects. Toasty has prob the best light stickers that ive seen.

The molded area you mentioned are called ribs. We add those in certain locations to help with dimensional aspects. Keeps the plates from worping.
