    You could use a straight edge and two small F clamps and clamp to your aquare instead of the studs. Helps if you have a bad edge too

    Starrett stair gauges might be the ones you are looking for. Way back when I was a carpenter they were the Cadillac.

      Oh damn Starrett made those? Im new to the carpentry world but a former Machinist, Starrett was my best friend for that lol (they specialize in precision measuring tools)

    Is there a reason why you use the inside edge of the framing square to trace stringers instead of the outside? I figure that would make lining up your next trace easier, but maybe you know something I don’t?

    I've always used Starrett stair gauges, but a company called SqiuJig looks like they have solid ones also

    Do any of your videos detail how you hang the stairs using the 4x framing support as you mentioned? How many would you use for a 5 feet wide set of stairs?

    • @drdecks
      @drdecks  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      tommy smalls at least 3

      Thanks! I’m thinking a couple of Simpson Strong tie SDWS Timber screws through the (2x8) rim joist and the new “header” piece into the 4x’s should do it. Does that seem reasonable?

    Do you buy from gray lumber

  • @jacm7256
    @jacm7256 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    at 12`:26, when you have a 2x10 frame or rim joist and then you add another 2x wood (i would assume a 2x8) for your stairs to attach to, do you just run screw on that 2x towards the rim joist of 2x10 or is there any support that it attaches to behind just like you drew for the 2x8 frame? Thanks in advance.

    Ummm. Can’t ya just flip the brass clamps over on the square? Wouldn’t that make ‘em a little bit longer?
