I have the same pan and had the same issue with the temperature gauge. I just added more Teflon and it ended up right side up. Cheers
👍🏻
All good except DO NOT USE those goofy little barrel kit doors! They are WAY too small! You will be sorry! If you can make an arch out of an oil tank you can certainly make a door.
I would agree, a bigger door would be much nicer!
Nice job on your wood fired evaporator! Maple syrup season is underway and perhaps some more TH-cam clips or upgrades on project!
Thanks! I contemplated putting taps out as it will be in the 40s for a week but then a cold snap. Normal tapping here is end of Feb beginning of march. Last year 5 days into tapping we had a 75 degree day which ruined it…
Hi there . Great video. May I ask what welding rods you used to do all your welding. I’m just starting my build. Thank you.
We used a mig welder
Good explanation of your build.
Thank you!
Really good video man! I'm gonna take some of your ideas and apply them to next years evaporator build. If you were gonna put a 36" pan on instead of 48" would you make the opening closer or further from the stack with your design? I don't have a ton of maples so I don't need a 48" pan. Thanks! Jeremy from MN
Thanks! I would probably make the burning area a little smaller and then the area where the stack is I would make that bigger.
Hey man, beautiful build it shows you like to take the time and do things proper and clean 🍻 i was just wondering what sized angle iron you used to hold the pan up? It looks like 2 inch but i would like to be sure. I am taking a lot of inspiration from your build. Thanks in advance and hope it works like you want it to 👍
Thanks! It’s 2”
This year I am going to weld the door on all the way around to seal it up better and mount a variable speed blower on the back side of the evaporator that will blow air into the firebox, other than the few changes I will make it worked great!
Nice build!
How many fire bricks did you use all together?
Thanks! I am not sure how many bricks I ended up using, I have it tucked away in storage. I can check in spring when I pull it out.
What setting did u use to weld it ?
Every welder is going to be different, you’ll just have to try different settings and see what works best for your welder.
@@portercreek just wondering what u used , your video is very good
@@toddcaskey9984 thanks! I don’t recall, I just set it to the settings that the welder suggested for 1/8 steel
Nice build
Thanks!
What's your pan size & what size angle iron did you use around the top?
24x48, I have link in the description for it. 2” angle iron.
Thanks! Looks like I bought the right stuff. How much space did you leave for the flu gasses to get past the back of the arch (I think that's what it's called) The back of the evaporator basically.
@@craigvandermolen6260 I left about 6”
Hello, me again. In your experience, what is the minimum amount of gallons need to be boiling in that pan before it's a problem?
@@craigvandermolen6260 it works best to always have it within an inch or 2 from the top. We have finished syrup directly in the pan though and it was only about an inch deep. Once you get down that low, the moisture leaves quick so you need to keep a close eye on it
