  • How do you present a patient on rounds?
How do you prepare for rounds in surgery?
Today we're going to do something a little different and I'm going to show you how I like to present a patient on rounds and how I like students and resident to present when I'm rounding as the attending.

    STRUCTURE?
One of the most important things when it comes to rounding is having structure. The structure that works great for an inpatient is the SOAP format.
Subjective - How does the patient feel?
Objective - What does the physical examination and new data reveal?
Assessment - How can you put it all together?
Plan - What are you going to do today? Medications? Diet? Discharge?
The other important thing to remember when you're putting together a presentation is to have flow!
Once you've started, keep moving forward, don't go backwards!
What do I mean by that?
One you've completed your subjected and you've moved on to your physical exam, don't go back and say that the patient felt nauseated, had pain or felt dizzy. That all goes in the beginning!
If you keep a logical flow it will be very easy for your audience to understand!
Check out these AMAZING timestamps and fast forward if you need to:
    Start 00:00
    Subjective 02:14
    Objective 04:38
    Assessment 07:28
    Plan 08:11
