My buddy had a dad who worked for yamaha, and built him one of these at the japanese factory. And signed it “from dad” on the back. It was a good guitar
Yamaha make really great, affordable instruments. I've played a yamaha bass covered in hello kitty stickers for 3 years and it's served me really well. They sound good and feel really nice to play
your pacifica, along with BJA's blue strat, tom delonge's sticker strat and rivers cuomo's seafoam strat all inspired me to revive my old squier with a set of stickers and new pickups and I'm really glad i did - it feels way more unique and personal than just buying a new stock guitar
Your Pacifica is awesome, it’s the only reason I clicked on your video, I’m sure I’m not the only one. The guitar TH-cam space is super crowded and your Pacifica has earned you my sub today. Pacificas have been as good or better than Squiers everyone seems to be so happy with these days and no doubt some squiers are ringers but I guarantee you out of 100 guitars Yamaha Pacificas will be more consistent and way less “lemons” than Squier or any other budget brand.
I have a 2021 American professional jazzmaster ii and I fucking love it, it plays better than any of my other guitars….. but every once in a while I still pick up my first squier tele and rip some American football riffs. Nothing beats the first guitar you got comfortable with
Your philosophy really resonates with me. I still have my first budget Strat bought with dog walking money when I was 14. I've upgraded it a bit with good pickups but otherwise untouched and my personal connection to it means I play it far more and way better than the expensive guitars that come and go.
I'm in the same situation with my strat, where people I play with ask why I gravitate towards my affinity squire instead of my Gibson that was bought kinda on impulse, but I've torn the strat down and made what I see as the perfect guitar for me, glad to see someone else with a similar mindset
Still have my first too, it’s an 02 Pacifica 112M. Its my most prized one out of many to this day, has patina and a story. Thanks for the video. It’s good to just take it all back to the basics sometime, to the roots which should be making music having fun and doing it on something boring but reliable. Not the newest and shiniest but because you just love it
Is 1:37 Iggy Pop Fanclub by Number Girl? Awesome shout if so. The Yamaha also looks awesome with all the stories it has to tell and a nice subtle canvas color. Subbed and im off to listen to Manic.
Haha it is Number Girl but it's actually Girl 17, nice catch though, Iggy Pop Fanclub is one of my favorites as well! And much appreciated, thank you!!
I started playing guitar with a Yamaha PA112M from 1999 and I still play it even though I also own high priced boutique guitars. I'm thinking about getting a Japan made one.
A great guitarist can make any guitar sing! You make it sound awesome. I’ve been thinking about buying a cheap guitar and just customize it to a crazy extent. It’s a thing that simply cannot be done on an acoustic (unless you’re mad lol).
I picked a 2014 Pacifica 112V brand new because at the time it has better fret work than Squier Affinity strat, has compound radius fret (10-14 in radius), and has alnico v pickup. Although I agree with the tuner take and I have issues with tone knob but other than that it's a great guitar to play with. Also I played a lot of Persona soundtrack with that guitar so seeing someone with the same guitar playing the same music makes me feel seen lol.
Haha that's funny about the Persona soundtrack, actually I'm pretty sure my tone knob was replaced and I forgot to mention it in the video! It's also a bit scratchy, I've been kinda lazy as far as getting around to spray some anti-static stuff in there
hell yeah, i got a squire nashville telecaster in middle school. after having 14 guitars now, I've played that one for so long to the point where im more comfortable playing it than any that "play better". has a stupid slim neck too. white with black guard, maple fretboard. if you can get one for under 300 I recommend it. came factory with duncan pickups and a pole-less mini humbucker in the neck.
I have the same guitar and I love it. It is very comfortable and very easy to play, especially if you have small hands like me. I changed the pickups for Artec Giovanni ones and the sound improved a lot. I recommend you make that modification. What model of Wilkinson and Gotoh tuners did you put on it, are they locking tuners? I also want to make that mod. Did you notice any significant improvement on sustain or tone with the Wilkinson bridge? Do you use the whammy bar with the floating bridge? Is it worth changing the tuners?
I'll check out those pickups, I've never heard of them! The bridge I believe is a Wilkinson VSVN, although the closest looking one on google is the VSVG. I like it! I think it definitely sounded better upon installation. I don't know the tuner model either but it's the Schaller-type I believe. I think the tuners make it sound better, but the last remaining step I need to replace is the nut. With those 3 things I think it would be solid. I do like the tremolo, and it's pretty great as well. It's not a floating one, but nonetheless I love it and it's great.
@@MilesLargeTV Ok I see, thanks for the information. Yes, they are called Giovanni Custom. You can find catalogues with many models of pickups and very good reviews on internet forums. The guy who calibrates and fixes my guitars recommended them to me, he also builds guitars and uses those pickups. Yes, it is definitely a pretty solid guitar for its low price, even from the factory. I use the floating bridge and despite having the thin block, it resists tuning quite well. I use a pencil in the slots of the nut, the graphite helps with the stability of the tuning, it is a trick that my luthier taught me. Greetings from Argentina!
im left handed and have a prs se that i love to death, im into heavier stuff but i dont want to put put my guitar through the abuse of constant tunning changing, so im looking into getting another guitar too bad leftys are expensive and im broke i just wanted to share that edit: I would appreciate some recommendations on standard tunning😭😭😭😭
I was never actually much of a gear snob but that's probably because I'm using a $20 unbranded Strat copy I got at my local thrift store that's basically a white noise generator LMAOOOOOOOOO
"How dare you?" Yes, perfect! Before catching your vid, I scrolled past an Anderton's vid that said, "Finally Pro-Level Pacificas." I hate that garbage; Dolly Parton played the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with a $99 guitar & THE Frankenstrat was a literal seconds-guitar. Guitars don't need to be expensive or "pro-level" to be good & a good player will make an ok guitar great. Awesome guitar; keep rocking!!!
I have two pacificas: A 612 and a modified 012. They're both great, though I find myself gravitating to the modified 012 since I stuck '70's style humbuckers in it and found the satin neck on it more comfortable than the glossy 612 neck. However, the Seymour Duncans on my 612 definitely sound better and the flame top is a nice touch. It also looks like less of a knockoff strat with the downsized pickguard. I'd highly suggest swapping the nut out for a Graphtech tusq nut since it comes stock on Pacifica 612's and they make spares/replacements for all Pacifica models. Definitely upgrade the pickups to Seymour Duncan or DiMarzios if you get the chance. My 012 is modded to HH but I also added coil split to both pickups. On another note, have you ever tried any of the Revstars?
I appreciate the tips, thank you!! Will certainly look into that Graphtech, and I definitely considered a white JB for the bridge! I have not had the chance to try the Revstars as I've never encountered one out in the wild!
@@MilesLargeTV Yeah it’s strange how much Yamaha advertises the Revstar yet they hardly distribute them. I live in Houston, TX and there’s only one store out of the multiple local shops and guitar center locations that keep them in stock.
If it plays well and you the sound is good, why buy anything else? it would be cool to see a video like this about your Jaguar, especially why you pick up one vs. the other for a specific song/sound/etc. Also, big relate to spending all your money on my pedals.
Hell yeah man! I've got an Ibanez Roadstar that I got for 200 bucks that I've similarly covered in stickers. Never underestimate the power of a cheapo covered in stickers!
this guitar is the first thing I think of when I think about your channel lol, its so iconic
Haha I appreciate that!!
My buddy had a dad who worked for yamaha, and built him one of these at the japanese factory. And signed it “from dad” on the back. It was a good guitar
Dang that’s so cool!!
That cover of the bends sounded awesome
Thanks!! 😎
Yamaha make really great, affordable instruments. I've played a yamaha bass covered in hello kitty stickers for 3 years and it's served me really well. They sound good and feel really nice to play
Yeah they're quality instruments, I know probably not as popular as a Fender or Gibson but they've never let me down!
With how good your tone and playing is, it truly shows it’s never the guitar that makes the player…
ITS A PERSONA 3 STICKER OF COURSE
Lmfao
your pacifica, along with BJA's blue strat, tom delonge's sticker strat and rivers cuomo's seafoam strat all inspired me to revive my old squier with a set of stickers and new pickups and I'm really glad i did - it feels way more unique and personal than just buying a new stock guitar
That's awesome!! I'm flattered to be an inspiration haha
I own a pacifica pac-012
definitely a favorite out of my collection
cheap, super playable and can really kick ass with the right settings

Haha absolutely!!
I’ve been loving these sit down and talk videos, it’s dope to learn more about you!
Glad you like them! There will be more to come!!
Love the zero skateboards sticker
Thanks, honestly that one was stuck on because I thought it looked cool, but I don't skate at all. I'm a total poser! lmao
@@MilesLargeTV haha it’s okay, Billy corgan wears zero and he’s a poser lol

I've upgraded it a bit with good pickups but otherwise untouched and my personal connection to it means I play it far more and way better than the expensive guitars that come and go.
Sometimes, all you need is something simple!
Only just noticed the persona 3 fes sticker, nice.
I'm in the same situation with my strat, where people I play with ask why I gravitate towards my affinity squire instead of my Gibson that was bought kinda on impulse, but I've torn the strat down and made what I see as the perfect guitar for me, glad to see someone else with a similar mindset

Yeah exactly!! Absolutely a piece of gear I can just rely on and it does it well to boot!
The stickers will be forever cool I love your guitar so much!!!! Smashing video as always!!!!!!!! Go Miles!!!!!
Appreciate your support always so much, thank you :')
sick video as always!
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!
I'm also getting one on my birthday too!
Eyy nice!! I hope you enjoy it!!
@@MilesLargeTV I will, cause it's gonna be my first ever electric guitar after almost 2 years of acoustic
2:43 that riff was freaking awesome
I too am devoted to my cheap, stickered up Strat copy. Love the long form content 🫶
Appreciate that, thank you! Cheap guitars are great honestly

That's awesome, yeah I've played a few of those and they're solid!!
would love to hear about your time in Japan and the music you played while you were there
I’d certainly love to talk about that in a video in the future!
As a Yamaha bass player I do think Yamaha is underrated
My only bass is a Yamaha bass and it's great!! I want to upgrade some stuff on it but that aside, it's solid
@@MilesLargeTV me personally I own a trbx 304 and it is amazing for getting different tones

It might have to do with the mic placement or mic type, I did feel a bit the same way when I finished recording it for this video
