I've had a very unproductive day so far... had to drive across town for a class only to realize it was cancelled, then stopped for breakfast and had to wait forever to get a breakfast burrito; I was depressed because I have to go to work in an hour and thought I had blown my whole saturday; but at least now I have a fresh Tally Ho video to get my mind right.

OK, you're all getting more experienced and versatile as the project continues (Rowan is WELDING now?!?), but can we talk about Pete's public speaking / presenting skills? His early WHATCHADOINPETE segments, he definitely wasn't loving being on camera. Watching him at @4:51 on this video, I'm so impressed at how confident and composed he is now. He's relaxed enough to explain some of the very nuanced, tricky work he does in ways that us non-shipwrights can follow along and appreciate his skill. Love it.

      @endatheworld 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

Yeah I concur, Pete's a natural and engaging presenter / explainer / entertainer. Always was I guess, but now is more confident...or maybe he just hated being distracted from his work but now accepts it's just part of the process!

Loved the pat on the old keel. A beautiful acknowledgement of good workmanship from yesteryear.
100 years from now someone will be watching this trying to comprehend your "ye olde English" and be rebuilding her again saying "WTF was grandad saying?" With a much more full and comprehensive set of instructions than you ever had. The in between voyages will be awesome I'm sure.
You left your mark on history with the folk boat Atlantic crossing and as a grand finale, this final nail in the coffin of awesomeness.

Tiny little note; the festool ETS EC sander Rowan was using in the first part of this video does not have an integrated blower and relies on active dust collection to expel the fine sanding dust. from personal experience operating it too long without DC can cause you issues. Worth popping the pad off and getting in there with some compressed air, you'll get a much longer life outta it! Another great episode, thank you. I was in Falmouth for the International Sea Shanty festival which coincides with the Classic Boat Regatta, and around 6 or 7 years I noticed a young lad in a wooden folk boat which had the cockpit filled in. He was expertly sailing between moored yachts in the harbour with what looked like 8 friends on board. He sailed up to the pier, deposited his crew and calmly sailed off singled handed. It was a joy to watch so I called over the rest of our shanty crew, who are all sailors, to watch. Couldn’t have been you Leo, could it?
PS we are the Wellington Wailers from Shoreham by Sea and most of us are members of the Sussex Yacht Club which stands on the grounds of Stows Yard. Coincidence or what?

This is an amazing project and I’m constantly impressed with the skills your entire team shows with every phase! Your choice of music is also refreshing! Thanks you so very much for sharing this journey!

When Pete was first put on camera he was very uncomfortable, now he has settled into it well and it's showing his depth of knowledge.

I have to say that the images in all your video are quite superb! Always in focus unless it's in a shallow depth of field, details are never blown out or lost in shadow but mostly a rich level of contrast and your colour grading is delicious but never over saturated! Composition is considered and often very much a part of the images power. Some of the art shots are extremely beautiful and evocative.
I can see why you spend so much time editing and you know most people don't know exactly what they are seeing but it makes a huge difference. Many say the image is less important than the story but I would say they are equally important. For me a bland image is a complete distraction, I have trouble engaging with the story but if the image is rich and on point it makes me feel like I want to be in the story... Just my 5 cents worth Leo :)
Very sad to bid goodbye to Elizabeth II, I will miss her greatly.

I have a bit of involvement with one of the oldest water mills in GB. It was built in 1812 to supply flour to the British Army, fighting Napoleon. There are a lot of reclaimed ship's timbers used in its construction. That means they must be well in excess of 210 years old. Makes what Leo is doing history in the making.

Crabble, presumably. Great thing to be involved with. It's a very long way from being one of the oldest, though, with one or two 12th century mills still operating.

My wife's sister lives in Kingston so I took the opportunity today (Saturday) to visit Talley Ho. Leo wasn't there but Pete was there hanging new LED lights in the boat shop. Pete was gracious and gave me a quick tour. Its easy to see the quality of the construction from the videos but you really have to see her in person to truly appreciate the craftsmanship that is going in her. She is amazing. And Leo, you have a new Patreon subscriber.

There is an aesthetic item that I have been mulling over which I would like to suggest for your consideration. Your transom, comings and cover boards will be teak. It seems to me that a teak hull plank from stern to stem would tie all the teak parts together and would add a lot of class to the boat. I think the easiest way to do this would be to put the teak plank over the top plank.
    Cheers, Don

Thanks for posting and sharing. So good to hear that you are able to get the wood from Canada thanks to someone's assistance. The mast partner looks great. The bulkheads all look very neat and tidily executed. Kudos to Richard and all involved with that aspect of the project. Best wishes to all the crew involved at the shop in Port Townsend.

8:20 You know, you could take all the offcuts and other unusable small bits of the original Tally Ho wood, put it through a CNC and make some souveniers you could sell, coasters, maybe profiles of Tally Ho, small signs, cutting boards, etc. Then you could auction those off on ebay or set up a shop where you could sell those and that could raise extra funds. I'm sure there are a lot of the 378 thousand subscribers who would love to own an actual bit of the original wood from Tally Ho. Plus you would know that it's not going to waste.

Kudos to you, Leo, for what you have done with your team. As others have mentioned, Pete's on camera presence has improved tremendously but ROWAN! Seems like Rowan was cleaning crud off of parts and "holding the other end of the board" when he first arrived and now he's working independently using a plane, building tools and TIG welding! He's gotten pretty good on camera, too. It's a credit to all of you to be willing to teach and to be willing to learn. That is as impressive as the boat build!
