Loading the Airstream on the Blackball Ferry to Port Angeles

  • The stress of loading the Airstream on the Blackball Ferry from Victoria to Port Angeles was real! The process is run efficiently enough but the ferry is significantly smaller than the BC Ferries we took to Vancouver Island. This was a very tight squeeze. This was one of those moments we were especially glad to be in the smaller, maneuverable Airstream. The larger rigs did fit but loading our fifth wheel would have definitely been more challenging.
We could not get poor Silas out of the truck and we worried about people squeezing between vehicles (with bags, children, drinks, etc) may accidentally scratch the Airstream or truck.
It is mandatory to stay above deck on this crossing so hustle yourself up those stairs and claim one of the large booths by the windows! Availability is limited but it is the most comfortable area for the crossing.
At this point in the trip, we have been moving every 3 to 4 days for months. We were pretty tired, we were so sad our time in Canada was over and we were excited to be closer to seeing our family and friends that we had been missing all summer!
We were so ready to get to our next campground in Olympic National Park and spend the remainder of the day resting…..:BUT…… that is not how our day played out! Come back next week to see where we went wrong.

We knew you could do it. Jim's a pro driver! We witnessed it in the yard and we have taken the Beaver on the Black Ball so we knew you could do it. Thanks for not taking out any bikers haha and wow you got a great shot of the Empress and our Parliament buildings while you were driving. Loved it! Thanks for showing our dear sweet Victoria.

Jim had a spotter that he listened too in your yard and on the ferry. Hmmmm…wonder if there’s something to that whole “listen to your spotter” thing? 😉

ferries with a trailer are always fun. Often pretty tight, but always doable. Nice review of this one.. safe travels.

I drive that ferry twice a week with semi and 53 foot trailer it can be little intimidating but pretty easy when ya do it and they load ya good..

Love the perspective of the camera as you drove through Victoria! Nice new angle. The time you put into editing and perfecting your videos is greatly appreciated and noticed by us. We understand the time it takes to put together quality content! Thanks for your honest review of this ferry ride. - Michelle

Oh, thank you!!! We actually noticed it when Jim was making the video. It’s just such a beautiful place and we are so happy to be able to have this to look back on.

YES, you get SO tired thing about it. Once you did it, you have to unwind. First time Jitters.

We love your videos and sadly fell behind, so today has been a binge day! 😊 Question for you: Crossing the border into Canada or back to the US did you ever have to show any paperwork for the dogs??

Never in 10 crossings. Last year Canada eliminated the pet certification and you just needed their rabies vaccine. Alaska May require more but we’ve never been asked for anything related to the dogs to date.

We would caution to trust any videos on travel because it can change so quickly! The prohibited items at the borders changed while we were in Canada so you really need to check road conditions and border restrictions the night before you go. Safe travels!
