    Here I review the Insta360 X4, an 8K 360 degree camera. I go over features such as 8K resolution 360 video, 72 megapixel photos, slow motion, me mode, single lens mode and talk about the removable lens protectors (lens guards).
    All footage and music in this video is my own.
    I'd like to thank Insta360 for sending me the X4 for the purpose of making this review.

    UPDATE: I mentioned the overly short menu display time (that I talked about in my dislikes section) to Insta360 and a few days later they changed it back. It's great now.

    Best review on this camera in YT. Absolutely no TH-camr mentioned the real resolution of the final cropped image , no TH-camr summarized it all so well, clearly and understandably. My respect!

      Seems a whole lot of things stop Insta360. For instance, they couldn't admit the Evo wouldn't do long recordings, and when pushed about it, claimed chopping holes in footage was a feature. And this new model is stopped by a warm room.
      "Peak influencer" is also an accurate comment. I'll admit I'm only halfway through so far, but the whole thing so far is advertisement with attitude, not review. And the affiliate links and preview units do nothing to improve that picture.

      What about high speed SD cards for recording 8K, they are expensive and still not available.

    You should have far more subscribers as your videos are brilliant. You actually get to the point with what we want to know about these cameras. Really great narration too, you should record meditation guides, very relaxing to listen to. Thank you for your hard work making these videos. 🎉

    Having watched quite a few reviews on the insta360 x4, I have to say yours is definitely in the top two (of 10).
    I think we need more pictures/movies of your friend in your reviews.

    @Roo Reviews, good comprehensive review as always.
    Got mine on order and have been holding out since I bought the 1X or X1 in Dec 2018. Was hoping they would add a 1” sensor but the pricing would probably be another $200 more.
    Anyhow, I think on your next review when you had more time with the X4, it would be good to talk about not having the 30min recording limit where the X3 turns off for about 15sec once the 30min recording is reached, while the X4 keeps on recording. From a user-ability standpoint, as a one man crew, this improvement was a selling feature and a big one for me, notwithstanding all the other improved IQ and additional shooting modes, frame rates, and improved features that was covered in this video.
    I think the files are H.265 and so the file size are same shooting 8k30 in X4 as it is shooting 5k30 in X3. This is helpful to know for those who edit their workflow on a smartphone with limited onboard RAM as for example, Apple iPhones charges an arm and leg. The desktop has more affordable pricing for RAM storage.
    Lastly, I think X4 can use a 1TB microSD card but I haven’t seen any reviews covering this point yet.

    Once again you are giving me a pain in the wallet... My chief interest is to see comparisons of X3 and X4 shots to see whether the extra resolution is worthwhile. In the lake shot, not that big a deal IMHO. In the test card shots, a radical improvement. Hmmm... Anyway, what an excellent and comprehensive review, as always!

    • @Roos-Reviews

      I was surprised at how well the X3 held up in well lit outdoor comparisons after reframing. Comparing them in VR though, it's hard to go back to the X3. But few people are watching their footage in 360.

      @@Roos-Reviews I don't know whether you will see this now, but I have become obsessed with the X4 sharpness setting in the last few days. No, I still haven't got one, which is why I am asking your expert opinion. I saw a short reference to the sharpness setting in another review recently, and it showed side by side video stills of a quite distant building with brick-faced walls. In low sharpness, the bricks became a fuzzy red surface. In medium, the bricks were clearly bricks. In high, there was really no obvlous difference compared to medium. Now it seems to me that the typical 2.7k reframes from the X4 would need all the help they can get to look crisp and detailed, and the medium setting would therefore be pretty essential to avoid the X4 looking like the X3 despite the 8k capture vs 5.7K - and also, typically the X4 would not be being used for portraits or other images where you might want to soften the image for flattering results. And it seems to me that if bricks (for instance) are being captured with low sharpness and turned to mush, that no amount of post production sharpening would bring them back. Any views on this? Maybe this is the reason why I have often been underwhelmed by many X4 samples as low sharpness seems to be very much in fashion these days with all cameras, but maybe the nature of the X4 simply doesn't warrant that setting.

      Would it help you if I were to record a clip beside a brick wall with the X3 and X4 and send you the original insv files to analyse? Do you have a Dropbox or Google drive?

      @@Roos-Reviews Thanks for that offer - at the moment I am having to stay at a house 50km from my PC and I only have a chromebook and Quest 3 here - so I wouldn't be able to do much with the files. That's also why I'm still not the proud owner of an X4, as currently I wouldn't be able to do much with it ... maybe when I escape back to my own home I will contact you again. (And I suspect I don't have much capacity on Google Drive anyway). But again, thanks for the thought!

  • @HakanOnurDerici
    @HakanOnurDerici หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    I see the advantages of a 360 camera but I'll only buy one when the exported video is actually 4k and processed image looks flat without the distortion.

    • @Roos-Reviews
      @Roos-Reviews  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I wish for that too, but that would require the camera to have two 8K sensors and a new generation chip to handle so much data without burning up. I think that's quite a few years away. Maybe the X6.

    • @0LoneTech
      @0LoneTech หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Fun fact, Insta360 adds considerable dynamic distortion by their stabilization software. Natively cameras of this kind would only have the challenge around the stitch line, which is heavily marketed as a feature where it edits out the selfie stick (along with bits of the hand holding it).
      On the other hand, people have some funny expectations for "looks flat", including arbitrarily rejecting wide field of view images because their screen is too small.

  • @pichuliux2

  • @cintikevin1
    @cintikevin1 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I too, just scratched my lenses. I was bike riding using Insta360's power stick attached to my handlebars. A "warning" to anyone doing the same thing. Their power stick at the bottom where it is threaded is GLUED ON. Not threaded. A very poor design. So, glue cannot hold where selfie stick was threaded on, so stick/ camera falls to the ground. So, IF you have their power selfie stick, only use it while walking. Don't ever attach it to anything. IT WILL NOT HOLD. (I'm referring to the very bottom of the stick that holds the 1/4" thread).

  • @UwePieper
    @UwePieper หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    From all the videos I watched, I'd say you have the removable lens guards on the wrong way (most of the time). The colored dot is supposed to be at the bottom and the camera uses it to identify that and what kind of lens guard is on there (in the auto mode)

    • @Roos-Reviews
      @Roos-Reviews  หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      In this video where you see the lens protectors on I shot those parts the first day I got the camera, before I recorded any footage with it. And I had them on incorrectly. Whoops! I did not record any footage with them on the camera though.
      By the way, if you forget to choose the correct protector setting in the camera, you can select it in the software later when exporting.

  • @TheSshadow7
    @TheSshadow7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Does it have the capability to film without the barrel or fisheye distortion like the GoPro can?

    • @Roos-Reviews
      @Roos-Reviews  หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Yes, you can select dewarp in the camera or even in the software after recording.

    • @0LoneTech
      @0LoneTech หลายเดือนก่อน

      All so called 360 cameras must compensate for lens projection ("dewarp"), though they cannot target rectilinear "flat" image; it simply doesn't work for extreme fields of view (approaching 180 degrees, and dual lens spherical must go over to have some overlap). In a single lens mode it could do similar recording but this is cropping to a smaller part of the sensor.
